I mean... I'm pretty big into fitness, but I don't think I could cast judgement on someone who couldn't fit into a junior coaster. Any of us could probably be one bad binge season away from a walk of shame on Woodstock Express, considering it looks like your knees can slam the headrest of the car in front of you. ^ Dude in the green was probably in a leg cast the next day.3 points

^^Cinnamon Bread won't be open till July 1st so maybe wait? Seriously though, if you follow us on Instagram we went last weekend...when there were some issues outside the front gate on a Saturday. The employees and rides were all great, but it was VERY busy most of the day. Storm Chaser and Lightning Run were running amazing.3 points

Hey everybody! This thread is simple! Rather than having a million little threads about everything that goes on at Fun Spot America Atlanta this thread is designed to consolidate it all into one user-friendly thread. Feel free to use it to post updates, trip reports, questions, comments, and of course, general discussion. For pictures and videos of the park as well as past updates, see TPR's Park Index Page. Official Park Website Below are some links to past updates from the park, you may be interested in. Enjoy! _____________________________________________________ 2021 May 25th, 2021 - New Rocky Mountain Construction coaster announced! - SEE BELOW June 30th, 2021 - First RMC coaster concept images released! November 15th, 2021 - Arie Force One details to be announced on 11/16/21 _____________________________________________________ ORIGINAL POST: Fun Spot Atlanta has announced that they will be partnering with Rocky Mountain Construction to design and build a new coaster to open at the park in 2022! Fun Spot America Atlanta partners with Rocky Mountain Construction on the next BIG thing for Atlanta, in fact, it’s so big you’ll say...it’s HUGE! A new roller coaster design process is underway and scheduled to debut in 2022. Roller coaster enthusiasts, and theme park lovers, will soon be buzzing about the impact this partnership will have on the Atlanta area. Hold on tight because this will be Fun Spot America’s largest Roller Coaster investment ever. The new roller coaster will be the first of many new marque rides and attractions yet to come to Fun Spot Atlanta. “RMC is a highly sought-after designer and manufacturer of award-winning roller coasters. We’re pleased to be able to provide HUGE thrills for families and coaster enthusiasts at our Atlanta park,” says CEO John Arie Jr. Rocky Mountain Construction, often referred to as RMC, is a fabricator and manufacturer of extreme roller coasters located in Hayden, Idaho. Over the years, RMC has been known for its transformation of wooden roller coasters into new hybrid attractions. Founder and owner, Fred Grubb created RMC’s notable steel Ibox track which uses steel I-beams to replace the traditional layered wooden track design. The idea of this was to reduce maintenance costs and increase the coaster's longevity while providing awesome high-speed twists, turns, and inversions. “We’re excited to be working with Fun Spot America and thrilled to be bringing a fantastic new RMC coaster to Atlanta,” said Grubb. John Arie Jr. said, “We’re thrilled to announce our partnership with RMC because we love their world- renowned products, family-owned and operated business mindset, and know this is a perfect fit for the Fun Spot family. We can’t wait to see the final project and the HUGE positive impact it will have on the park for years to come.” Fun Spot America has yet to announce additional details about the coaster, but the park is pursuing a naming rights sponsorship opportunity with one of Atlanta’s major sports franchises. The park is also looking to hire an additional 250 employees as they gear up for what they predict to be another busy summer. "From what the attendance numbers have been showing since reopening, people are ready to get out and enjoy themselves again. We feel this summer will be even better than years before, but we need friendly and dedicated workers who are eager to begin their career in the amusement industry," says John Arie Jr. Fun Spot America is hiring for all departments. Starting wages begin at $11.75 per hour, and all employees must pass a drug screening. Employee benefits include Summer and Christmas bonuses, discounts on tickets, food and beverage, Leadership and Training courses, and more. I think it would make most sense for this to be a family coaster, but we're all hoping for something more! Also, didn't Fun Spot now build a GCI and Gravity Group woodie? ...they should definitely go with an RMC next!2 points

>>> Tommy G Robertson was SFOMA's Park first Director of maintenance. My Dad was Maintenance Manager under Tommy. In 1977 Tommy moved to Great Adventure after the acquisition of that Park. In the 80's Tommy moved back and was promoted to VP. Tommy just died about 6 months (?) ago. Tommy was loved by his employees. My Dad was promoted to DOM and New Construction after Tommy left. Dad and Tommy worked together on Screamin Eagle. That is how I got to ride Train #2 from the station on first run and how I met Mr. Cobb and Mr. Allen. I have a picture (somewhere) of the Eureka on the flat bed trailer when it arrived in 71. The green train was named Lil' Rock. My first year at SFOMA I lubricated the Train(s) every other day. Learned a lot about Propane fueled steam driven Trains. Good days!2 points

Yay cons! Hopefully I'll get to my first this year (if I don't count Renaissance festivals). Are you planning any cosplays this year, Bert?1 point

so. . 15 days back on plan, and slowly working my way back up to 1:30 walks. (today's was 1:20, and until today, been doing ~1:15 for a week). still struggling with portion control, but no sodas, no fast food, and no eating after 8pm is working for me. so in 15 days of exercise, I'm down ~5.5 lbs. today I weighed in at 203.2 lbs (started at 208.8 back on 5/11). i think I'll hit my goal of 200 or under by end of month (fingers crossed)1 point

it's not even a junior coaster. . Wilderness Run really is a kiddie coaster. . but it was the 1st Intamin, so why not ride it the seat belt is designed for toddlers. . . but you had to be able to click it. I BARELY fit on Wilderness Run. .it was tight. So not making fun of anyone, just noting, lots of walks that night. (the Woodstock Express , which IS a Junior coaster, we fit in just fine and they were encouraging adults to ride during the day. It was pretty fun too).1 point

isn't the Atlanta Fun Spot the only one without a woodie? yeah..I think we're gonna see a wood framed RMC in the field by the parking lot.1 point
-
Weird about the one ride vehicle... it's almost as-if they realized that forcing the park that bought it to needlessly hire at least one additional employee to staff a second station at all times that exists for no reason was a feature that nobody wanted.1 point

In North American English it can be used as a modifier: But, you are correct it is spelled wrong. lol Sorry, not trying to be a d**k, you sparked an interest so I looked it up. Back on topic.. personally I am hoping this is not a Raptor clone but a custom family coaster. I'd really like to see on of those pop up and at a FEC too would be pretty cool. Since their announcement mentions the design phase I'm hoping that's a hint it won't be a plug and play clone of any sort but a custom layout.1 point

If you have a membership theres Skip the Line passes. Dont believe they have anything else for purchase. Last Friday I waited about 30 minutes for Blast Off, 30 minutes for Viper and 20 for Mind Eraser. With the non-sensical distancing rules, lines move very slow. Ride of Steel hadnt opened for the season yet as of about 3pm on Sunday. Id table it until they go full capacity on rides.1 point

yeah, it died down later. you should ride WR, just for the history. . and that usually adults aren't allowed on it at all. they ran it with only 4 adults total on the train - to ensure it makes it up the 1st lift, I'd assume. BUT you still have to be able to get that teeny tiny seatbelt to click. . LOL. .we saw many walks of shame from Wilderness Run. (it got a decent line too)1 point

ugh. . I guess it keeps with the "low rent" image of Fun Spot. . but it bugs the crap out of me they not only misspelled "Marquee". . but they are using the term wrong (since you know, "Marquee" really means "tent". . so a "Marquee Event" means something so special there are tents set up at it. but I am excited to see what they end up doing with RMC. . . they have a TON of open land at that location, which is the perfect place to build a big woodie.1 point

Oof sorry to hear. Can only vouch for the two times I went but deff wasn't the case. Night ERT was great esp for SV, was deff shorter than the line for the day even with FL (which was consistently like 40ish mins and while people reassured me it will die down near park close, it did not lol). Yeah I recall last time lots of people did line up to wait for Maverick to open but ya know, once the line was flowing it wasnt bad. If such a thing happens then yeah I'd duck away to something else and come back once its moving. Wilderness Run is indeed on ERT as well. Epic for people that will be there with their kids though I will continue to not have that credit and do Gemini, Magnum and esp Skyhawk instead. I love that ride too much1 point

my one Coastermania , the evening ERT had longer lines than thruout the day. The folks lined up waiting for Maverick ERT was so nuts, we just went over and got a ride on Wilderness Run- it was being offered, and it was a chance to ride a rare coaster (1st Intamin that usually adults can't get on)1 point

Hopefully this is back open by the first weekend in June. Making my first visit to Kennywood and frankly riding Phantom's is higher on my bucket list than Steel Curtain.1 point

Looks like Phantom's Revenge is now on the temporarily closed list. This park can't catch a break with signature rides being closed.1 point

^ Last Friday, Superman and Wicked Cyclone still had hour plus waits due to the reduced capacity. Six Flags New England is dropping the mask mandate starting on Saturday for vaccinated guests, so I suspect they may start loading all rows on rides sooner rather than later. I think every Six Flags park that reopened started by skipping rows and gradually switching to loading each row.1 point

To anyone else doing Coastermania, they have released the schedule and yall it's amazing. Morning ERT of MForce, Raptor, Gatekeeper, Valravn. That is great. 9-10 ERT has Wicked Twister (Im stoked) Blue Streak Iron Dragon. Night ERT includes Magnum, Skyhawk, Maverick, TTD, SV. That is a pretty damn brilliant event. Already planning the day. Do we know yet if SV has been/will be operating at 10 am? I only ask bc last time I went, this was 2019 ofc, it was never opening before noon. I also recall that weekdays SV isn't open for normal early access correct? Only asking bc I assume people will spend the full hour early access waiting for it to never open so I'll plan accordingly. Like try to time it right when those lines get in but before the masses hit, OR I'll just do maverick first and wait for night ERT1 point

They don't actually care. They're doing the bare-minimum to pacify elected officials and they don't expect these rules to be around for long anyway.1 point

This year's big addition. The local contracting company who constructed it got free single day admission tickets, so that should increase attendance by 7. On another note, we only made it 24 days into the month before a new post! That's only 2 days behind April!1 point

We were at the park on Monday and ..................................................Mission Accomplished!!!!!!!!!! We made it on AND were able to get in the one alpine coaster in PF we had not done to make it 250 for the boy, the day after his 18th birthday no less. Not trying to taunt anyone, JJLehto so sorry you didn't get on but hope you do on your second day! It took us 3 trips to get it.1 point

She did this for attention, it's what she does.1 point

I've shifted from going to the lowest capacity rides first to going to the rides that I really want to ride first in most cases, especially in this case. If Lightning Rod is open, ride it immediately before it's next routine catastrophic mechanical failure that leaves it closed for 3 months.1 point

Some notes from my visit during passsholder Saturday: Park hours 11-10. Parking opened at 10:10am. Last year rides opened up around 10-15 minutes before scheduled hours but not this time. Also they usually play the national anthem before opening which is hilarious to see reactions from everyone..but maybe I missed it this time? Someone please report on if this still happens haha. The pretzel at the Brewhouse is great, comes with beer cheese (not shitty neon ballpark cheese) and mustard! Adventure Express has added lights/themeing in the second tunnel. Food/bev lines were insaaaaane. We are smart here on TPR, we don't eat at peak hours! This made no difference. I ended up staying to close, and I think I had my pretzel around 8pm at the brewhouse which I didn't have to wait long for, but that's the advantage of the bar. Hopefully the park can get more help, but I am not sure if that's the issue. I believe that dining plan is bought by 70% of passholders. Racer was running fantastic. Like as good as the Hurler & Racer 75 retracks in 2018. Gravity Group did an awesome job. Beast gave me on of the most painful rides ever last year, and typically I only ride in the front to make sure that I never get a bad ride. 2020/social distance didn't allow you to wait for the front seat. 2021 we can pick our seats, hooray! The 2 front row rides I had were great. Diamondback running with full trains makes it feel like an above average B&M hyper again! Banshee running with full trains is great but I didn't enjoy it as much as I did last year. I had some amazing glass smooth rides in 2020 but 2021 it's back to the usual Banshee. I really think that it's not a rough coaster, those vests just hug you into the seat so tight you feel every imperfection on the wheel/track. That first drop is wicked! Love to see Drop Tower running consistently. Delirium was down/testing. Windseeker is even more fun with Orion right below you. Boo Blasters was a fun ride to revisit, it's okay for what it is. Knotts bringing back Beary Tales gives me hope that KI could take advantage of fhe omnimover base here and restore the Phantom Manor. But when you're winning golden tickets for your kids area I doubt they'll ever change it. Orion is essentially a brand new coaster for 2021 for the GP so the only thing slowing down the ride's operations is the walk of shame. The lines we've seen for it so far are pretty impressive, but remember it's not just Ohio locals coming to KI regularly. You've got Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Michigan folks coming in. I'll be curious to see how lines are during the week but if you want more than 2 rides in 1 day without waiting 2+ hours just budget FL. Orion has a good looking light package at night and the park added more lights in the helix calling it 'Orion's Belt'. It's just a really fun re-rideable coaster that's focus is on speed. The first drop seems endless, the wave turn is taken at 1000%, the speed hill gives good air and the final sideways hill and jump into the brakes are the stand out airtime moments in my opinion. Mystic Timbers still hauls ass. No one spotted my Fuji Q hoodie except for 1 older dude in the beer line who just wanted to rant about Kingda Ka being the best and was still very mad about Rebel Yell being changed to Racer 75. Where we the cool nerds at??1 point

For what it's worth, I visited the park this past Wednesday with my daughter. After our inaugural visit back in 2019, where she just missed being tall enough to even ride the Shredder, we made the decision to not return until she hit at least 48" so she could ride way more stuff. Well, she finally hit her mark back in April, so we ended up picking up the low-price mid-week tickets that gave us free reign of the park from 12 PM to 7 PM. We didn't end up actually getting there until 2:00 PM (had to wait for her virtual school to end before we left), but once we did, it was a pretty painless process. We picked up our wristbands at the counter after they scanned the QR code from our online purchase. Unlike in the past where they were embedded with RFID chips and they would be scanned at every ride entrance, these are now just your average paper wristbands that we showed upon entry to the park and then never got checked again the rest of the day. Crowd levels were pretty light, as to be expected mid-week. In the span of the five hours that we were there, we rode everything we wanted to ride multiple times. None of the rides had more than a station wait, with the exception of Jimmy Neutron, which was closed earlier in the day but opened back up around 4 PM. For whatever reason they were only loading about four or five cars at a time on that ride, so it took us about three cycles to get on. The first coaster she wanted to ride was her nemesis from last time, The Shredder. This is without a doubt my favorite spinning coaster I've ridden so far (might change whenever I make it out to SDC, but for now, this slaps). The sheer length of it gives a lot of bang for your buck, and with only the two of us in the car, we got some absolutely insane spinning. Both times we rode it, they allowed us to stay on for re-rides thanks to no one else being in the station, so we ended up getting a total of four rides. It's just a great smiles-on-faces ride, and easily a big favorite here. Shellraiser was up next, and it was also a walk-on for us. Sadly, this one ended up being a one-and-done. Although the layout is great, I remembered half of the rides with my son being super rattly back in 2019, and unfortunately, it's only gotten worse since then. I don't know what they can do to fix this ride, but it's shaky to the point of the car feeling like it's going to tear itself apart mid-ride. We noticed at many points throughout our time there they were just sending empty cars throughout the course. Here's hoping they find something to do with this ride that makes it more enjoyable for everyone, because as it stands, this record-breaker is definitely the biggest flop in the park. Slime Streak was listed on the website as being down for maintenance from the 4th through the 20th, but for whatever reason, it was open that Wednesday! I was a bit apprehensive about riding as I had heard it was not particularly friendly towards larger body types and I'm still trying to shed those extra lockdown pounds, but I'm happy to say that although the trains were on the small side, the restraints were not overly restrictive. We did this one twice throughout the day. It's your average family coaster, nothing too special or thrilling but gives a nice view of the park. Timmy's Half-Pipe Havoc was open for the first time for us, originally being closed back during our 2019 visit. This was my second Intamin halfpipe coaster and my daughter's first experience. More ridiculous fun, with the back and forth launches and the rapid-fire spinning. We only did it once but wouldn't mind riding it again. Sandy's Blasting Bronco was also operating, but due to the height requirement being 52" and my daughter being short by 4 inches, we skipped it. It looks hecka fun, though, and hopefully the next time we go back and my son is along for the ride, we'll get a chance to give it a spin! Other rides of note: Kraang's Pandemonium is an absolutely bonkers mini-pendulum that picks up speed super fast, and the interaction with the ceiling (and ceiling fans!) is sure to thrill. Skyline Scream was operating as well, and this S&S tower runs a combo program; it shoots you up to the top and then bounces several times before pulling you the rest of the way up for a beautiful panorama of NYC and New Jersey. You are greeted up at the top by Spongebob and Patrick figures before you plummet back down. While it apparently can rotate, it wasn't rotating during any of our three rides on Wednesday, but it was still a lot of fun. Last but not least, while the Reptar carousel is cool to look at, it's a total pain to ride. Not sure whose idea it was to have the spikes on the tail poking your butt if you slide even slightly backwards. There were a number of new Zamperla kiddie rides scattered throughout the park, including a Crazy Bus themed to the Loud House, a Happy Swing themed to Dora The Explorer's monkey Boots, some cupcake looking teacups themed to Butterbean (whatever that is), and a mini-whip themed to Paw Patrol, but the only one that was currently operational was a Bubble Guppies themed spinning balloon tower. Here's some photos of the ones currently under construction: Foodwise, they're still only operating a single food stand located near the Half-Pipe coaster, with primarily pre-packaged sandwiches, hot dogs, popcorn, snacks, and the like. However, we noticed they were bringing more structures into the building as we were leaving Slime Streak for the second time, one of which said "Burger Bar" on it. Hopefully there'll be a little bit more options for food in the near future, especially considering that they aren't offering re-entry to the park currently. If you want to check out any of the other food options in the mall, you'll forfeit the remainder of your ticket. I'm definitely happy we visited on a slow day with the cheaper tickets and smaller crowds. I wouldn't want to visit on a weekend, where you're limited to timed entry and exit periods and the crowds are heavier, as I feel like you simply wouldn't be able to get through everything here (and it's not even as if there's a whole lot for that matter). Last but not least, the parking fee. It's free under two hours, and $2 for any length of time over 2 hours. This is ridiculous... and by ridiculous, I mean ridiculous to complain about. Literally go anywhere else in New York City and try to find parking anywhere near as cheap as that. Or for that matter, any other amusement park that isn't named Knoebels. Hell, the Queens Center Mall charges $3 for an hour of parking and all they have is a damn Target and Red Lobster. I get that people are looking for something to whine about, but this ain't it, chief.1 point

I was hoping you'd do a D*C TR! I've never been to anything like that and some of those costumes are absolutely outstanding! There are several that really caught my eye but the Bumblebee transformer costume is hands down the best. Do people wear costumes the entire day or just change for a few hours? Some of those look like they'd be super hot or hard to walk around in for long periods of time. I can't believe how many people were there and how busy the hotel was in the middle of the night! It really shows how popular the event is.1 point
