Best Roller Coasters in the US (By State) or country

Recommended Posts

I am not a huge fan of Wing Coasters, but Thunderbird was easily the best. I just responded because according to enthusiasts, Voyage is easily the best in the world... I thought Voyage was pretty overrated when I rode it last year. Airtime was floater at best. Still top 5, but not the end-all-be-all I was promised after ten years of constant hype.

I have a trip report on the way so I haven't said much about it, but I found Holiday World in general to be the most overrated park I've ever visited aside from (maybe) Magic Kingdom.

I found every single wood coaster in the park to be totally overhyped and while we had fun, I didn't think it was worth the price of admission at all. Raven was awful, Legend wasn't much better and Voyage was a lot of fun but incredibly overhyped. I agree completely about the ride having floater air at best.

In addition, the park is severely lacking on trees and the lower portion of the park is downright ugly. We liked the park but it and it's wood coaster collection are severely overhyped by the enthusiast community in our opinion. The only things that lived up to the hype for us were Thunderbird, the staff (they really are top notch) and the restaurant in the Thanksgiving section. I'd rather spend a full day at Kentucky Kingdom than Holiday World.

Anyway, sorry. I went off on a bit of a tangent there. Lol

I have never agreed with you more. Me and my wife split a weekend between the two parks last year. We loved KK and were not overly impressed with HW. The two watercoasters were better then any of HW's wooden coasters. Lighting Run and Storm chaser were the highlight of the trip. But we had fun at each.

North Carolina - (I have not ridden Fury yet ) Nighthawk?

Nighthawk is in SC. However there is a little bit between the holding brakes and station that goes into NC (shown below).

Since the station and majority of the coaster is in SC and under it's jurisdiction for inspection , I personally would count it as a SC coaster.

For comparison, Fury and Goldrusher also are in both states, but their stations are in NC and under NC inspection so I count them as NC coasters.

So I guess my favorite roller coaster in North Carolina is Carolina Cyclone?
