Please read everything below!) Official Website: http://www.coastingforkids.org/ Hey everyone! It's that wonderful time of year again! Theme Park Review is proud to announce that we are once again working with Give Kids The World to help raise money for Coasting For Kids 2014! This year's Coasting For Kids event takes place on Sunday, June 8th. What is "Coasting For Kids"? It's a fundraiser hosted by Cedar Fair, with the proceeds going to Give Kids The World, a wonderful organization that helps children with life threatening illnesses. In short, it's riding roller coasters for a GREAT cause! Robb & Elissa have asked me to help coordinate this year's Team TPR effort, and I am more than happy to do so! Team TPR will consist of TPR members raising money while riding roller coasters. But we need riders! And this is where YOU come in! We need as many TPR members as possible who are willing to ride a coaster (or coasters) at a Cedar Fair park for six to eight hours. You'll register your donation page at the links below, and get as many of your fellow TPR members, co-workers, family, friends, Facebook friends, Twitter followers, etc to donate to your page. Top riders who get the most donations will get some cool stuff, too! Team TPR Members will also be able to choose and create one of FOUR custom signature banners with a direct link to your donations page! (See below for instructions) Below are the links to start your donations page for the Cedar Fair park you wish to be a rider at. Simply click the link, go through the registration process, make SURE you affiliate yourself with Team TPR (or, if it doesn't exist yet, we ask you to please create it), and then reply to this thread with a link to your donations page so we can help promote it! There is a tax deductible, $25 registration fee that will fully be donated to Give Kids The World. That fee will also include your event T-Shirt, ERT on one or more roller coasters (TBD) on June 8th, plus food and drinks the day of the event. You do not need to worry about park admission. All participants will be required to pay the $25 registration fee and raise a minimum of $75 in order to participate. Those who have participated in the past will tell you this day is a ton of fun for a great cause, so I recommend everyone participate! Again, Coasting For Kids 2014 is happening on Sunday, June 8th at a Cedar Fair park near you! Register below to help raise money for Give Kids The World. You will get to ride a roller coaster for six-plus hours. Trust us, you do NOT want to miss out on this! Go to: User Control Panel > Profile > Edit Signature And this would be the code: So it should look something like this: And the final product would appear like this: I will be updating this front page as often as possible, and will be posting in this topic frequently. If you have any questions, please let us know! Now, go join a Team TPR, start fundraising, and get pumped to go Coasting for Kids!! GnastyGnoric7
I got an email from Give Kids The World on Feb. 13th, and under Upcoming Events it said Coasting for Kids was June 8th . I have started Team TPR for Dorney Park. http://support.gktw.org/site/TR/CoastingForKids/General?pg=team&fr_id=1234&team_id=1547 My personal donation page http://support.gktw.org/site/TR/CoastingForKids/General?px=1122087&pg=personal&fr_id=1234 Edited February 26, 2014 by GnastyGnoric7
SuperShawn
I must have missed the e-mail that mentioned the event and it seems like King's Island is the only with a schedule up currently, still early and there's many months to go. That said it's always a good time and good cause and I look forward to participating again this year.
piedude81
As someone who's never been to one of these before, could someone tell me what the event is like? How crowded is it, what's the atmosphere at the event like, do you have to get back in line each time, etc. Also, how do you guys raise your funds? Secondly, maybe we should ask Robb to make an official TPR thread for this event so it can be stickied.
skiisncoasterz
I was browsing the events page on the kings island site and this event was there and open to register. For those who havent done it yet here's how it works. We get to the park before it opens and then check in. There you get your T-shirt and other items. Instructions for the day are put out at that time. We head to diamondback for an hour of riding first. DONT PUT HANDS UP WHEN RIDING until told its OK. This was a problem last year. I didn't see it but it happened. The park wants good photos to use. Respect their rules and its a fun day. At The Racer and Diamondback we can ride as much as you can handle. Dback kicked a few peoples butts last year. You can ride 50 times or just 10. Some rode racer 100 times. At noon we head up to the international restaurant for lunch and a presentation by people from GKTW. it very much shows why we do this event. A family who's been to the resort tells their story. Kings island does a great job with the event. http://support.gktw.org/site/TR?fr_id=1236&pg=entry Edited February 16, 2014 by skiisncoasterz

I'll see you guys either at Kings Island or Worlds of Fun (with KI being first choice).
MoonCadet
So I set up a team TPR page for Kings Dominion http://support.gktw.org/goto/TPRKD You can sign up to ride for team TPR at Kings Dominion through that site. They are using a new platform this year fundraising is no longer set up through Firstgiving but rather a custom site though Convio which I am incidentally familiar with from work. The site is not quite finished and polished as some of the options and font colors are awkward but it is fully functional. This platform does ultimately allow for some more flexibility and probably better integration into their databases. My personal fundraising site is http://support.gktw.org/goto/mooncadet

zachclarke2
As someone who's spent a week at GKTW, I honestly don't know why I haven't done this event yet. I've always wanted to, but it just kinda never happens. Really hoping I participate this year at KD.
CoasterGuy06
As someone who's never been to one of these before, could someone tell me what the event is like? How crowded is it, what's the atmosphere at the event like, do you have to get back in line each time, etc. Also, how do you guys raise your funds? All of that will depend on the park. I participated at Carowinds in 2012 and there were not that many people that did it there. I think there may have been like 15 people total. There the actual marathon was before the park opened and once the park was open we were able to just enjoy the park for the day. Other parks marathon one ride all day, and others will marathon one ride for a couple of hours, move on to another ride for a couple of hours, etc. throughout the day. jonlocke
I definitely plan on doing this event again this year. I had a blast last year at Canada's Wonderland and look forward to it again this year. For anyone that may be interested in joining I've started a team TPR for Canada's Wonderland. FreeFaller
Does someone know if this event could be expanded internationally? I would love to something similar here in Germany but for some reason there is nothing!
piedude81
Does someone know if this event could be expanded internationally? I would love to something similar here in Germany but for some reason there is nothing! It's really all up to the parks around you. To my current knowledge, Cedar Fair doesn't have any parks outside North America, but you could try starting your own event. To do this, you'd either have to talk with the park about hosting an event or host your own by making everybody raise enough to cover the cost for the equivalent of Fast Lane, Flash Pass, etc. Either way, make sure you plan out everything to the fullest before making a pitch to an amusement park or rollercoaster forum. Barge84
Had a great time doing this last year at KD. Looks like I'll have to stick closer to home this year, and either do WoF or VF. Leaning towards WoF right now.
Naina21
Thanks Jason for the info. I was just wondering when we would hear about this year's event. I'm signed up. 3.5 days of roller coasers again since Coastermania is right before it. Here is my page. I'll try to make it pretty or at least add info to it when I get home. http://support.gktw.org/site/TR/CoastingForKids/General/134077216?px=1088464&pg=personal&fr_id=1236

Nyteowl
I participated in the Knott's event the past three years and it was a fun event for a great cause. I work there now so I won't be able to participate this year, but hopefully if I get trained to Jaguar or Coast Rider I'll be able to operate for it. It's nice to see them expanding to Coast Rider in addition to Jaguar this year at Knott's.
piedude81
Hello! Event information has recently been posted for Cedar Point, Dorney Park, Knott's Berry Farm, Michigan's Adventure, and Valleyfair. Also, Kings Island has had their information up for a few weeks now (Banshee night ERT anyone?).
