Busch Gardens Tampa Bay (BGT Discussion Thread)

p. 375: Phoenix Rising family inverted coaster announced for 2024!

It looks great! It's going to be an insane ride...

I'm curious about the restraint system they're going to use. It better be comfortable if you are going to suddenly slow down after falling 230-ish feet...

It looks to be the standard Intamin hydraulic OTSRs. It won't be uncomfortable though, as it has been made known that the seats will rotate back up about half way down before hitting the brakes.

Anyone hear when they might be topping the tower off?

We don't know yet. Right now they are adding the tracks on the side that weren't already attached and they are working on the queue. The topper hasn't even left the lot yet, so it will probably be after they finish putting all the missing tracks on. I'd give it a week, weather permitting.

I'm kind of hoping they go with a Lone Ranger theme for the topper and just throw a bird on the top. Big ol' falcon just perched up there.

I don't see them building an actual falcon, but maybe an artistic stylized one would work. Like something Cheetah Hunt-esque with the Cheetah Rock but with a falcon, perhaps made out of fake sticks tied together. Though concept art just shows a block with a pattern, so that's what I'm expecting.

The really cool looking ride carriage have arrived. Looks awesome IMO.

Looks like the restraints will be same as on Drop of Doom, only with two chest bars, similar to the Zacspin. I think the ride would have been really uncomfortable without those two bars.

Former Busch Gardens Tampa director of security fatally shoots someone for texting in a movie theater:

http://www.baynews9.com/content/news/baynews9/news/article.html/content/news/articles/bn9/2014/1/13/wesley_chapel_theate.html

Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco said the argument began when Reeves became upset about noise the couple was making while texting on a cell phone. Nocco said Reeves asked Oulson to stop several times, and that at one point he got up and left the theater, then returned to his seat.

Nocco said Oulson then asked if Reeves had reported him to theater management for using his phone, and the two men began to argue.

At some point, Reeves shot Oulson, 43, in the chest, Nocco said. He said Nichole Oulson put her hand up to her husband's chest as the Reeves shot him, trying to stop the bullet.

Nocco said two off-duty nurses, who were also in the theater, began performing CPR and tried to save Oulson. Both victims were transported to local hospitals, but Chad Oulson died. His wife was treated for a gunshot wound to her hand, authorities said.

An off-duty Sumter County deputy was inside the theater at the time, Nocco said. Authorities said the deputy secured the gun and held Reeves until deputies arrived and took him into custody, authorities said. No other injuries were reported.

"The suspected decides to pull out a .380 (handgun), and he shoots the victim," Sheriff Chris Nocco said. "It's absolutely crazy that it would rise to this level of (violence) over somebody texting at a movie theater."

...

According to Tampa Police, Reeves retired from the department on September 30, 1993 as a captain. Later, he was the director of security at Busch Gardens until 2005.

^&^^Not to spin this thread off topic but I'd really like some more info on the movie theater shooting thing. Sounds to me like the poor old guy was provoked and harassed by the texter and after he tried going to theater staff the guy got physical and accused him of "telling on him". This is Florida, you don't get in fights with people cause someone is always armed! And you don't act rude in a movie theater!
