Yes I hear you on this. It is a bit confusing and we are trying to work out a simpler way to explain this.

I dunno if you'd want to go down the path of the solution being too technical, but maybe you could buy a bunch of cheap LCD monitors/TVs, put one at each ticket window, and just have in big text on the screen something like:

Buy your 4 hour wristband now!

You can enter the play structure at:

XX:XX

And stay until:

XX:XX

And throughout the day the screen would just refresh depending on the time period.

Considering it's not just a Giant Play Structure, but the Giant RainFortress, Slides, and Cowabunga River, that would be even more of a problem.

Another news station did a story on us last night. We are getting some pretty good coverage from the local stations. Here's the story for those interested.

KUTV Channel 2 CBS news: Cowabunga Bay

Shane, I'm just happy they got the facts right and mentioned Cowabunga River!

I would like to congratulate you on a job well done. You have done something that I can only dream, of doing, for now anyways. If you were to consider putting one in TN, I would definitely go visit. If ever I end up going to Utah, you can be guaranteed to see me.

Yes this is a BIG thing. I myself congratulate you. This is just amazing. I am also enjoying every step of progress made.

Shane ..If I remember correctly you said over in the "What the heck is hapening to Greesed Lightning" thread, that if they can't fix the unstable land situation you would try to squeze it in.

Was this mearly a joke?

Or were you seriouse?

Well it has always been a dream of mine to own my own shuttle loop, but that was merely a joke. I am not that eccentric...yet

Wait, why hang FIVE, I thought the saying was hang 10?

They are both surfer terms. Hang Five means to hang five of your toes over the nose of the board. Obviously Hang ten means all ten toes over the nose of the board.

^^ I personally think if Cowabunga Bay is a huge success, you should definately consider buying GL, renaming it Tidal Wave, and building an MGA-style sign complete with flashing lights and everything.

But that would mean that all three coasters with the name Greezed Lightning/Greased Lightning would havie carried the Tidal Wave name at one point and moved to three different parks.

park update: This morning the other bucket came in from Canada and within hours it was hoisted into place. The playstructure is really starting to take shape now and the supporting facilities are well underway now also.

The Lazy river has almost been completely poured and the support buildings are now going vertical. Our new web page (www.cowabungabay.com) is now live and hiring is in full force. The buzz on the park has been great. Lots of news coverage and lots of cars pulling off the road and kids heads popping out of the windows and sun roofs to see what it is we are building.

Here is a photo update.

the future "Hula Bowl" slide. It will be buried under 4" of concrete until a future date.

the major footing for one of the last major columns is now finished and waiting to cure before they can put the steel into place. It took 8 concrete trucks to fill this footing

This bucket went into place much easier than the large one.

I am really pleased with the way this yellow bucket turned out.

The smaller bucket arrived on site this morning

DSC02726_800x600.JPG.694b66efa904679a31d26a190dea7a19.JPG

looking down into the bucket. It isn't just as simple as filling up and then tipping.

DSC02720_800x600.thumb.JPG.1f008df50c747c67eb6fe64b9832f1c8.JPG

but looking into the giant bucket kind of ruins the illusion that the whole bucket fills with water. I learned that there is great technology put into controlling the spilling of the water. If it was to just pour out it would knock those below flat on their a$$es.

I got a birds eye view down on the structure the other day. Looking down on this thing from 75' in the air is quite impressive

Great update, Shane. That first pic is awesome. Seems like the perfect one to frame for your office wall or something. I think we can all sense the pride you have in this project, and it really is awesome to see it through your eyes in these updates you give us!

  • 2 weeks later...

With our opening date quickly approaching things are really starting to come together. I have been quite busy trying to get everything in place for our big opening. We have been interviewing hundreds of applicants and getting a staff in place can be a FULL TIME job, good thing we have a great team that is interviewing, hiring and training.

The play structure has all it's major components in place and this thing is HUGE. I hate to say it but it makes Hersheyparks look quite ordinary. Today they moved the final two slides into place and now there is all the detail work like, themeing , toys and fiberglass decks that need to be completed. I am told we should have water running in less than two weeks but since I am so anxious to see the giant SPLASH we may get a fire hose and fill the GIANT bucket up next week to see it dump.

The three buildings (pump house, change rooms and administration/kitchen) are going up quickly and the site work is being finished up. Here are some photos of the progress that has taken place in the last week. We are less than a month away from opening.

By "We" you mean Sage and Dave? Oh, and what about me? I don't think anyone can imagine all of the Hard Work Shane, Sage, Dave, and everyone does on a daily basis. By the end of the day these guys look beat, and when I get to work the next day, they are there doing it all over again! Oh, and when can I go up in the JLG with you? Can't wait to see that Bucket dump for the first time Shane!
