So, I'm still in shock over the Kanonen getting removed news. Having never been to the park, and not knowing much about the park. . . Do we know why they are removing Kanonen? Is it just to make space for the new Dive Machine, or are there other reasons like ridership, reliability, or things like that which may have had added to the decision to remove this coaster?

 

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed,(which I'm sure it has) I'm just curious. . . It looked like such a fun little coasters from all the POV's I've seen of it! Maybe a US park will get it!!! Maybe this will be Six Flags St. Louis's new coaster!

It will be removed to make space for the new coaster Valkyria and after the construction of Helix Kanonen has become redundant.

 

Liseberg will remove Kanonen after the winter season, because it will only be open the first two month of the summer season before it needs to be removed, and then the whole are needs to be fenced of due to safety regulation when dismantling the coaster. Under the dismantling of Kanonen there will be no access to Balder, Mechanica etc. With the removal of Kanonen before the summer season Liseberg can have a smaller construction area and happier customers that will be able to ride Balder & Mechanica.

Also, if you ask me the coaster was never very enjoyable to begin with. I know some people like that super compact layout but for me it was always just rough and not very fun.

The hotel looks gorgeous and I love the plans for the new waterpark! I hope they do like Tropical Islands and have it stay open 24/7 (but knowing Sweden they probably won't).

Omg, I just noticed something in one of the pictures! If you look at where Balder is located in this picture (circled in red) it looks like the southern part of the park where Sagoslottet is currently located (circled in green) will be rebuilt to fit the hotel.

Sagoslottet, a classic and still very popular family dark ride is nowhere to be seen in the picture!

I thought so too at first but the castle tower and turrets are much taller than the arcade so it should have been visible in the picture. It could be that they just decided not to add the castle in the rendering even though they plan on keeping it but that seems strange as well.

Redundant is a very strong word, I would not use it. More like they need to remove it if they want to keep investing.

To be honest I can't remember that they have shown the castle on any previous concepts they shown, so it's not unlikely that it's getting axed.

Knowing Liseberg it's most likely sold already, they are definitely not just going to waist such an asset.

 

but it's also built on interesting terrain.

 

Not really a problem, it needs new columns for the top hat section, thats all.

I know redundant is a strong word but with Helix in the park, I think it was a fairly easy decision to replace Kanonen with something new and unique.

Even that Kanonen have the most powerful launch of all Intamin launchcoasters, it's to compact to be enjoyable in every seat, in my opinion.

Will it be relocated to another park?

^ I would love it to come to Playland(PNE). It would fit perfectly into the size of the park

(it would replace Corkscrew, YES!), but I know that's not going to happen.

In the new, eventual additonal space to Playland, Kanonen could sit at the back or the front of this model. (o:

No news about if Kanonen will be relocated or scraped, but I hope that Liseberg and Intamin works in the direction of relocate Kanonen. And refurbish it with LSM-drive instead of cabellaunch probably make it more attractive.

Someone asked on Liseberg's Facebook whether they would sell it or not. The answer was that they plan on selling it, but don't know to whom yet.

I imagine if it doesn't sell they put it in storage till it does. Its too expensive and good of a coaster to scrap it. They really could make some good money off of Kanonen.

No. It would not really fit that demographic at all.

^I cannot really see this going to a "big, corporate park" in the US. Should it end up here, it will probably end up at a park like Silverwood or Knoebels.

I actually disagree. I think Kanonen is a perfect fit for the park since it's way more agressive and filled with laterals than the other coasters. I rode it 25 times the last time I was at Liseberg and but though I love it I don't think it's the most powerful Intamin launchcoaster, out of the ones I've been on (TTD, Kingda Ka, Furius Baco, Wicked Twister) it has in my opinion been the least powerful.

 

Valkyria is going to be good, maybe even better than Kanonen, but with AtmosFear and Helix I think Kanonen is more different in feel.

I have measured TTD, KK, Speed Monster, Rita, Desert Race, Senzafiato, Stealth, Storm Runner, Formula Rossa & Kanonen. The only coaster that can match the launch g-forces is Senzafiato. Kanonen uses only half of the launchtrack to reach the maximum speed of 75kph @ ~2G, not even Formula Rossa reaches the maximum speed with that amount of g-force. The only coaster that can beat Kanonen is Dodonpa, but it's air-launched and my old g-force meter didn't like it I will remeasure Dodonpa in January.

I found Dodopona's measurement. It just reinforces why getting to Fuji-Q is my wet dream.

S&S is the king of acceleration according to this

Why didn't the S&S air launch catch on? It's obviously not just a one-time technology that made a crazy launch on Dodonpa. It has used it very effectively on drop towers.

So was Fluch von Novgorod @ Hansa Park. It has a very forceful launch as well. It launches to 100 kph (60 mph) in just 1.4 seconds. That's an accelaration from 2 G's.

Why didn't the S&S air launch catch on? It's obviously not just a one-time technology that made a crazy launch on Dodonpa. It has used it very effectively on drop towers.

They still use it on all of their launched coasters. Powder Keg, plus the three big S&S launched coasters in the Happy Valley parks, plus one more being built in China for next year. The big ones are still the fastest-accelerating coasters in the world right now.
