Vonni
Does anyone know why the old entrance was closed, and the old service entrance became the main gate? ^Thank you for the pic!
DILinator
^^Cool picture! Interestingly enough, if you go to Google Street View for Worlds of Fun, it's from August 2011, before the go-Kart's removal, and addition of Steel Hawk and you can see the back of that building - minus the paddlewheel and Worlds of Fun sign. If you go where Steel Hawk currently is (on the satellite view), and drop the stret view there, you'll see what I mean. At that point, it was painted a "racetrack" checkered flag theme to go with the go-Karts. What's interesting is that from the Satellite view, you really can see how that area is designed to be an entrance plaza, complete with circular design, and fountain in the middle. I do find it curious that this much better entrance area was done away with for the very-much "backdoor look" they are currently utilizing. I too would love further explanation as to why this was done. Also, did the parking lot use to be in that area that is now all grass between Worlds of Fun Ave., and Steel Hawk? The parking lot has always been where it is. When you arrived at the park you would take the tram to the main enterance. The Tram vehicle is used to haul trash around now. I've spotted it many times. ytterbiumanalyst
Does anyone know why the old entrance was closed, and the old service entrance became the main gate? ^Thank you for the pic! IIRC, they cited cost. There weren't very many visitors in 1995, and the service gate was smaller and required less staff, plus it was a bit closer to the parking lot, so they could do away with the tram. Basically Cedar Fair's first mission was to stop the bleeding so they could fix up the place and add big new rides like Detonator and Mamba. prozach626
In the history of the world, absolutely nobody has received more blow jobs for saying they have some sort of inside information at an amusement park. Because nobody cares.
Geauga Dog
Anyone have any photos of the entire former Americana gate? I was at WoF in 1989 for the ACE Spring Conference for the opening of Timber Wolf and don't remember seeing it since we always entered through the Scandinavia gate. The Yeti
Well I am what my name says I am (InsiderMan).. With how boring Worlds of Fun's news and additions have been over the last few years (for me at least), I would say this thread is as exciting as it has been since Prowler opened. I've been trying to figure out if InsiderMan and PhantomPoster are the same person.

This is the picture that came to mind. I can find some small pictures of the gate but this may be the only full picture. Even though it's a drawing.... You get the idea. Slides to rides
If you look carefully you can see the Cotten Blossom on the left and the Keel in the center.
Shavethewhales
Man that makes me yearn for the times when developers were still interested in creating true theme parks. I really enjoy extensive theming. I'd trade a couple of coasters for the park to look like that again.
PhantomPoster32
If you look carefully you can see the Cotten Blossom on the left and the Keel in the center. The keel boat was called the Henrietta. There was a sailing ship (pirate ship) called Victrix that was on the lake near Viking Voyager (same lake that Sea Dragon is on now).

I really like that entrance concept - very original compared to today's entrances. If anything they should do a Viking ship as a new entrance into Scandinavia if a new main gate is built. I really enjoy extensive theming. I'd trade a couple of coasters for the park to look like that again. Even though WoF doesn't have EPCOT level theming, the theming it does have is well done and charming. There are a few very generic areas of the park though (such as Mamba plaza), but for the most part the park has far more charm than any other CF or SF park. Although I see that concept art and I'm wondering how much more charming the park must've been in the past.

OrientZinger
Maybe we could expect some Front Gate with ship themeing as discussed. It would awesome to include a hotel combo in some form with entrance booths and coaster. The possible new dark ride theatre could be incorporated with gift shops. Quetzal
Speaking of themeing, passing through Primm Nevada...after 3 week exercise at FT Hunter-Liggett California. Speaking of sad casinos where maintaining theming is a thing of a past, but hey, it looks so attractive from the interstate (even though it is slowly falling apart...), but hey, at least Desperado is a decent coaster. baileybrucem
Hey so I'm pretty sure the Zulu is over with...I don't remember where, but I heard something about the hydrolic lift breaking. Since HUSS is not the same company it once was, the part they need is no longer in production. I guess there was a digger tearing down some of the fencing around the ride, and Zulu hasn't been open in weeks. Because less rides is what needs to happen... OrientZinger
The disappearance of ZULU would sadden us all. However, im on a dark ride kick today. Forgive me for not remembering the name of the zebra stripe jeep ride similar to le taxi tour. Would it not be cool to have a dark ride with zebra stripe cars reminicent of zulu and zinger? Or "river type boats" used in africa. I wouldnt mind if the ride took a play from big game hunt and theme it like the shooter. Enhance the existing classic attraction its part of WOF history. ytterbiumanalyst
^ I can totally see a big game hunt ride going over very well in western Missouri, especially if it's done with the 3D effects like Justice League has. SFStL is Worlds of Fun's primary competition, and lately WoF's additions have been similar to rides added to Six Flags a year or two earlier (for example, Bonzai Pipeline/Predator's Plunge; Skyscreamer/Steelhawk). A big game hunting ride is never a good idea for a family theme park! Western Missouri isn't a bunch of hoodlums, I think that a ride themed that way would actually go very badly! ytterbiumanalyst
Hmm, "hoodlums" you say? I think the million self-titled rednecks in the state would disagree with that word being used to describe hunters. Hunting is a HUGE part of our culture, and you don't have to go very far outside KC to see that.

I can see the story now: "You're a 50 something dentist from Minnesota traveling in Zimbabwe, and Cecil the lion is vulnerable..." In all seriousness, loosing Zulu would make me sad. Sadder than losing a lion named Cecil. I just hope that if/when Zulu is removed (it's coming some day), another flat of higher caliber is added. DevinC049
Just curious. Did WOF make teasers for Patriot or Prowler? Maybe they're just not saying much? I haven't really kept up with this park for years, and now that I just moved here I'm finding myself quite curious. I feel like something is on the horizon, especially with it being so long since Prowler in 2009.

Probably the biggest tease i've ever seen for a ride, even more than Banshee and Fury. But marketing teams have changed, so...
