theminislimshady
Speaking of timberwolf, knowing that it's going through renovation, how many years of life do you think it has left before it's gone?
PhantomPoster32
Well considering how extensive this refurb/retrack is, I'd say quite a few.
ytterbiumanalyst
I agree that really the only thing that could help the area is a coaster plaza. I guess they could move the Timber Wolf entrance to back by Thunderhawk and then have the exit empty out back there as well. Though I'm not sure that would help and it might hurt ridership of the Wolf too Timber Wolf's entrance is perfect at the end of the Americana midway. But a new coaster out by the highway with the entrance by Thunderhawk would do quite nicely.
PhantomPoster32
I think a coaster plaza, much like they did with Fury, would be a great way to revitalize that area. (Note I am not saying the park needs a Giga)
The Yeti
I went to the park on Saturday and Thunderhawk was down the whole time, as was Boomerang. Timber Wolf was apparently open for a bit, according to the girl guarding the line, but didn't open before I left at 6:30. Some of the closures could have been due to rain earlier in the day, but Timber Wolf ran plenty of test runs. Mamba and Prowler also had some downtime. Overall it was a great visit to the park. The rain in the earlier hours must have kept a lot of guests away since the park wasn't too busy. Patriot in the front seat while it was sprinkling was surprisingly good. The back seat was fun but other than the drop it was nothing special. Patriot is definitely a front seat coaster. I got my first ride on Steelhawk and it was just as scary as I imagined, though I warmed up to it a bit on my second ride. This was my second visit since Prowler opened, and it was as out of control and awesome as I remembered. The first half was quite bumpy and rattly, and I didn't care much for that. I've gotta say, Detonator's crew was atrocious. I usually like to get a few rides in, but this trip I settled for one. On more than one occasion it took 10 minutes to load and unload a 22 passenger ride (2 seats were out of operation). Neither employee seemed capable of managing the lines or directing guests where to sit. They clearly needed some assistance, and unless they were understaffed I would blame the park management for that.
chadster
As much money as they've sunk into Thunderhawk over the last three years they could've damn near bought a launched MACK coaster. At some point the losses have to be cut on that one, nothing but a money pit. Shame that HUSS built some real crap before the bankruptcy as they were known for quality. But the topple towers and these things are just as expensive to keep running as a woodie.

(Note I am not saying the park needs a Giga) I completely agree with you here! When I went to WOF it had one of the least grandiose entrances (not to mention being a ways from the parking lot) of any park I had been to. And unlike KD, which I also hear people talking about for the entrance coaster treatment, there is a ton of open space on either side of the entrance that is practically begging to be used for a coaster! Down the road a few years, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a new B&M coaster of some type gracing the front of the park there...
PhantomPoster32
The problem with WoF's entrance is that it was never originally designed to be the main entrance, but instead was the secondary entrance that was only used on extremely busy days. When Cedar Fair bought the park, they did away with the grand main entrance and instead made this gate the only entrance. I don't think a coaster over this gate would work. There really is not as much space on either side as you would think.
DILinator
^Hmmm... Google Earth makes it look like there is a ton! Just out of curiosity, where was the grand entrance, before CF got rid of it?
lk2500
So, what is the verdict on Timber Wolf? Is it still a rattle trap? Much worse than Prowler? I'll be in the park this week and my back is a tad bit iffy (healed herniated disc). I road everything except Timber Wolf last year and most everything at SFMM (skipped Revolution, Viper and Apocalypse - as well as questioned my sanity on riding X2) last year as well with no issues. Which seats on Prowler, Mamba and Timber Wolf will give the smoother ride? Towards the front i would assume? TIA,

The parts that they repaved this year are actually fairly smooth and rocks much less than it did before. I always prefer front seat on Prowler myself, and typically do car 3 on Mamba when I'm on it. Thanks, I'll probably skip it. I will get reports from my test riders (18 and 21 year old sons) before I even think about trying it.

Well imagine that, they only retracked the first drop, Bob Turn and the 2nd drop. That section with its retrack and reprofiling is very smooth. Those sections show the greatness that is to come. Timberwolf kinda vibrates on the new work but nothing major. The part of the ride not worked on still has some good bumps along the way, and there is a pretty bad one during the helix. Timberwolf is fairly rough, of course it is worse than prowler. Prowler just rattles a decent bit during the drop, and first airtime hill. Prowler though, is still way smoother than timberwolf. PhantomPoster32
I didn't notice the vibration in the new section, but train still gallopes through the helix and at the end. It might be time to look into new trains here soon.

That section with its retrack and reprofiling is very smooth. Those sections show the greatness that is to come. By the time the rest of the ride has been re-profiled that section will be rough again. This is not the first time Timberwolf has had extensive work on its track. I'd rather see it standing but not operating, saving the park money for something bigger and better. As for a new entrance, I wouldn't mind seeing it moved near where Thunderhawk and Timberwolf stand right now as long as they finally add another large ride to Europe. PhantomPoster32
This is the first time that Timber Wolf has been re profiled to this extent. It's also being done by GCI this time. Definitely cannot go off past experience this time.
Jaykethekid
Well, it definitely wont stay smooth, but it wont get as rough as it was before the work. Am I the only one who notice during the helix there is one spot that is snaps really hard. Like it is half way into the helix. It is a very sharp spot. I really hope that the helix gets worked on next year.
RollerManic
Does nobody think that Timber Wolf is pretty boring anyway? Maybe its just me.
PhantomPoster32
Yeah there is a major pothole during the helix. I don't think Timber Wolf is boring. Sure there are more innovative layouts out there, but that doesn't make it boring.
Jaykethekid
Does nobody think that Timber Wolf is pretty boring anyway? Maybe its just me. I think it's is quite exciting ride. I mean it still has a total butt load of airtime. It also has a fairly quick pace.
PhantomPoster32
Sounds like just one flat ride for next year and a Haunt re theme. Maybe Blood Shed will get redone (my least favorite)
RailBlazer
Timber Wolf's re-tracking so far is only the first drop through the first turnaround and some of the straight track following that turn. This section has also been re-profiled quite a bit and most of the airtime on that stretch has been eliminated and really most of the excitement as well. I expect the same thing will happen to much of the air-time/excitement on the rest of the track as they continue the overhaul ride. Timber Wolf's strongest points are it's airtime and out-of-control feeling, when it is allowed to run fast. Now that the airtime and thrill is being taken out, I don't see it being a great coaster any longer. The newly tracked and re-profiled section appears to be much less abusive to the track and probably the trains, so I expect maintenance costs and work will be greatly reduced. The train just glides through the first drop and climb out of it without any aggressiveness that it had before. The banking of the first turn has been lessened and the train takes that turn very well now too, but without any real action.
InsiderMan
Well I am what my name says I am (InsiderMan).. Okay now I today ,had a full conversation yesterday with the boss of the bosses boss..David Bywater the big man at WOF. He said for sure Planet Snoopy is getting an expansion and some other new things in the park. Now this was in June. Today was a different story he said , oh some little stuff . I asked him anything big , he quite frankly said the word hasn't got back to him yet on rather or not WOF is getting a new coaster . He also stated that if we do it would go right in the Americana section of the park. About a week ago I also saw a Cedar Point Manager leaving the office ..Mhnmmmmmmm Interesting
