  1. OMG, I think I saw that guy last year. Were they like gold or silver short shorts?
  2. Now they are charging some maintenance workers: https://www.kshb.com/news/local-news/schlitterbahn-maintenance-workers-charged-in-verrckt-death
  3. I grew up near both parks and still visit once a year. We visit both water parks on consecutive days most trips - and they are both always packed early on in the day (dependent on the weather of course). You have to get there early or buy a Fast Lane Pass to avoid huge lines. Add one more decent waterslide where Verruckt was and they'd be good to go (even be ok without it).
  4. You have two weigh-ins before you can ride Flying Turns at Knoebels and lots of rides weight you and you don't even know it's happening (like the Great Adventure parachute tower). Tons of water slides have weight limits and many of them are quite low (like King Cobra at Hurricane Harbor in NJ and tons of rides at Volcano Bay). I agree that it's sort of insane to want to ride the ride now, but before the incident I don't think I would have been that turned off by that. Most people who rode it claimed that there wasn't a waiver, but if by some chance there was I would have assumed it was either a publicity stunt or just America being America. I mean... we signed a death waiver the other day to go snow tubing. Snow tubing... I didn't know other rides did that at established parks. The more you know. Well...I'm a chicken with water rides anyway...so I'm not going to pretend to say I would have rode it even without a waiver. I did intentionally pass the park for going to Oceans of Fun (and WoF) twice on KC trips while that slide was open. The trill wasn't that appealing to me and I did question its safety cause their is no way I'm riding a water ride slide that checks your weight. I'd rather locked in on a coaster that has a better record of not going airborne and doesn't use velcro straps. Do riders get some type of extra special coaster credit for riding it? You didn't miss much by not riding it. I rode it once the year it opened with my kids just so I could say I rode the tallest water slide in the world. The ride is really not that thrilling - so I never bothered riding it again even though my kids rode it a few more times in subsequent years. I'd prefer a front row ride on just about any roller coaster to Verruckt any day.
  5. That is an understatement. I can't even believe what I am reading. As I posted prior; my son's harness came undone the Friday before the boys death - but my son was able to hold on to the side of the boat. The indictment shows this happening several times in the past with resulting injuries. Just wow.
  6. Maybe she thought the parking cost is the entrance fee or she though Fast Lane was mandatory? No, nothing has changed. Lol, I just read some of the reviews but I did not see the one you mentioned. I do agree with the posters about ridiculous food prices and lackadaisical workers. We just pay the extra $5 for VIP parking and bring a cooler of food/drink.
  7. I was hoping things were going to be better this year. Operations last August when I visited were horrible. Absolutely no sense of urgency. On the opposite end of the spectrum I wish I had taken video of the awesome crew at Hyperspace Mountain at DLR last year. The gal with the mic would be giving a speech prior to each train hitting the station to be ready to enter, etc... The train would stop and the ride ops would do everything short of actually physically pulling passengers out and pushing new ones in and the train was off. It was the model of efficiency and could easily have been used as a training tape for other parks.
  8. Back in 2008 or 2010 I was walking outside of SFMM (toward the parking lot) and some kid was trying to spit on me from the top of one of the waterslide stairs. I stopped and yelled something at him and he started lipping off to me. As I turned back to continue walking I just happened across an employee (security?) with a walkie talkie and pointed the kid out to him. In just a few minutes he had security headed up the stairs to toss the kid out. I saw the kid trying to hide and move up the stairs; i just yelled back to him to enjoy getting kicked out of the park and went on my way. So, SFMM security obviously can be very efficient at times, I was pretty impressed.
  9. I've been on a Thursday the first week of August the past few years. Ops were up and down so expect just about anything. They seem to switch from single to double train ops at the most inopportune time (i.e. while we are in line and they have to run the 2nd car empty a few times); but it definitely helps once it's up and running. If you don't do the water park side then rides for the coasters like Prowler are almost non-existent at midday = front row rides! However, the line for Mamba always seems painfully slow no matter what, usually single train ops inexplicably? I definitely recommend Fast Lane Passes no matter what, especially if you do the water park. My kids have rode three times using Fast Lane while others rode once. Thanks for he info and fastlane recommendation. Will definitely take into account! I've always heard that worlds of fun is annoying with their willingness to run 1 train. We usually arrive at opening and hit Spinning Dragons first - then Patriot, Prowler, and Mamba. My kids will ride Timberwolf - I'm still afraid to because of my back. None of us even consider Boomerang; if you enjoy pain go ahead and ride it. Then we head back the car for a change - my kids head to Oceans of Fun and I go for my front row rides on Prowler and Mamba. Then I chill out until they are done or wander around. We'll pick off a few more rides when they're done with the water slides or just head home. We're not big on the flat rides. We will hit Viking Voyager for old times sake since I rode it as a youngster. We don't usually stay for the evening so we can have dinner with family.

  11. I've seen this discussed before. I like the way the system works now because it helps disperse the crowds and avoid choke points. There are already too many choke points as is.
  12. That plus an additional account of the Velcro restraint failing for someone else certainly indicates that.
  13. I wanted to clear a few things up for you all since I see some disinformation here. There have been issues with the restraints in the past as mentioned in this article: www.kshb.com/news/local-news/kck-police-investigating-death-at-schlitterbahn My son was also on this ride just last Friday and he mentioned to me that his shoulder harness came loose during the ride and he was basically only held in the boat by hanging on to the rope/handles as you are instructed to do in the safety talk. He was in the back seat though. These harnesses are basically just Velcro. I was surprised to see that when I rode it 2 years ago. Is that standard for these type of rides? You can see here how the attendant just lays the belt/Velcro down over the chest of the rider. There are no buckles.: I am not saying this is what caused the accident; but it could very well have contributed.
  14. Will you be doing the water slides? If yes, just pick up a Fast Lane+ pass. If no, then - as posted above - most coasters will have short lines as most peeps wander over the Oceans of Fun a few hours after opening.
  15. Walk up the exit ramp, go under the lift hill straight to the station (or down the steps from that pathway close to Viper), and somebody will open the gate and let you onto the front seat. The walk up the station is more thrilling than the VR headset IMO Is this the same spot you enter with a Flash Pass?
  16. Hi there Bogie, ... Make sure you start your day with The New Revolution with VR, because a short line took my friend and I when we went 75 minutes! You can always ride in the front using single rider without VR later (The headsets don't calibrate in the front, so it will almost always be a walk on with single rider). If Superman: Escape from Krypton is open, ride the Helpful Honda Express (the tram ride located right near the carousel) up the hill and ride it, it is known to break down a lot. After that, then go do Twisted Colossus. After Twisted Colossus, enjoy the park. Everyone runs to X2 when the park opens, just wait until 2 o'clock and it is almost always a walk on. If you need any more help comment below and I'll be happy to help. Hope you have a great day! -Mr. Corn I will be there next week as well. So, riding New Revolution before TC is the way to go now eh? I'll be buying Platinum Flash passes - if I get there at opening I would assume it's still a good idea to hit up rides in the order above prior to picking up my Flash Passes?
  17. Isn't that the whole fun of it? 4 years ago, pre-torn disc, yes. Now, not so much. I still love riding but need to be at least a tad cautious.
  18. Looking at the web page everything except FT and TC is included with the Gold and Platinum. FT and TC are add ons - when I was there in 2014 I believe it was a $15 add on per pass per ride (add ons were X2 and TC at the time). It also says: "Additional fee upgrade available with Gold or Platinum. Single reservation only." for X2. I went through the process of adding a few Flash Passes to my cart, however I don't see any place to add the extra rides. So, I assume you ask for the add ons when you pick up your Flash Passes? Does anyone know how much the add ons cost these days?
  19. 6'1 here, and I thought Green Lantern was a lot of fun. Love the intensity. I have ridden this thing multiple times and tried to get the proper position and regardless how hard I try,it beats my calves & shoulders up. I have conquered X2 and how to ride it without getting beat up, so I though I would try the same on GL. Nope......... it is horrible and needs to go! I must admit though. Last year at the TC early season pass event. TC wasn't ready so I went to GL and the op's asked us if we wanted the ultimate spin experience. So he put me on one side and 2 kids on the other. HOLY CRAP! We were spinning so hard that I thought I was going to get sick. When we came back into the station we were in such a tilt that they had to come and maneuver us back in. Can you please tell me where and how to ride X2 without getting thrown around like a helpless rag doll? I'll be there at the end of June, probably on a Thursday. My plan is to reserve some Platinum Flash Passes a few days prior, try to get there at opening, hit up TC first, then get the Flash Passes. Any other advice?
  20. Dang, this is my home park and that does nothing for me. Oh well... there isn't a whole lot of room down there to add much anyway. I wish they'd just take out Wild Thing and put in just one decent roller coaster. Timber Hawk is about the only thing I enjoy riding there; and I haven't even bothered going in a few years. Looking at a top down the only there is a bit of room next to Wild Thing and they could fill in that stupid lake and make one big coaster. Not likely any time soon though. Good thing I'm heading to Cali and Kansas again this year to get my coaster fix.
  21. So, can somebody summarize... How much of TW will be re-tracked if I visit this August? I've avoided it the past few times I visited; my kids say the last part is still pretty iffy for my back. I rode the rest of the coasters (except Boomerang) multiple times with no issues.
  22. Anybody doing both SFMM and Knotts WCB have any hotel recommendations? Price is not as important an option as safety, convenience, and noise level. TIA,
