^^^I think the biggest problem with that concept is that it's too close to Banshee too soon. I think that they'll build elsewhere in the park to draw guests away and prevent bottlenecking and overcrowding in that area. It's a great concept that reuses the SoB station and is not technically a gate coaster, well, it's a Gate Coaster in the sense of CW's Leviathan, KBF's Silver Bullet, or VF's Wild Thing. It's near the gate, but it's no Gatekeeper or Fury.

Drop Tower would be a terrible loss to the park. That is one of the best non-coaster rides they have. Vortex is the one that should be on its way out and replaced with something... Maverick 2.0!

It would be a far greater loss if it were a 2nd-Gen Intamin Drop instead of a Gyro-Drop.

It would still suck, though, as would removing Flight Deck or Invertigo.

Drop tower and Invertigo being gone? Wt* are you talking about!? Those rides are big hits! I would love for a coaster for next year, we might get one, we might not, but Honestly I don't think we'll get one until 2018/2019. The park hasn't put a major Flat thrill ride in since like what Delirium or The Crypt? I don't know if you would count the Return of the flying eagles a thrill ride would you? Same with Windseeker (which is only good for views to be honest.) Vortex could be on the chopping block if we are talking about removing rides. I don't think it can go at least 2-3 days without breaking down or something else happening. If that was to go i wouldn't mind seeing a Maverick 2.0, but I don't think it would be by Intamin. Anyways for the rivertown stuff, I believe it could be a Multi-flat expansion. I mean are there any flat rides in Rivertown?..................Nope. (Rant over)

ONE LAST THING I WILL SAY. I think the next coaster will go in the back. The dino's are done after this year. Give them next year to clear it out, and start construction. A giga will probably go in the back. It might not be that appealing, but it might actually happen. If they where to do this, the terrain goes downhill towards the river, so they could use the terrain to their advantage. Although i will say I did hear the Congo Falls on the chop block last year as a rumor But i cant see it being replaced with a giga, mainly because:

1)Theres like no space at the front end of the park

2) Would block views of other rides

3)I dont think they would put it that close to Banshee/Drop Tower. Invertigo and overcrowd that area.

Come July/August we'll find out more, I just dont like hearing popular rides being on the chopping list (aka Invertigo/ Drop Tower) If anything, i wouldnt mind seeing them moved to another spot in the park IF ANYTHING WAS TO HAPPEN TO THEM. But dont plan on it.

Not my idea, but perhaps KI is thinking about relocating Drop Tower to Rivertown to make room, and giving it a falling tree theme.

"TIMBERRRRRR!!!"

Could work if they theme it right.

I mean i wouldnt mind seeing that happen, But i feel like Drop Tower is in the right place in Action Zone.

that birdies told me last year that they were getting a gate coaster similar to Fury 325

Here's why you shouldn't listen to birds. Kings Island has one of the best front gates of any park. A gate coaster isn't going to happen here.

Some guy named Matt said the same thing.

I know Matt O's been quoted, but he's not going to spill the plans to the LA Times. DirkFunk knows what he's talking about, so you guys should give him more credit.

Yeah I was about to jump on the person posting that until I saw who it was. You're right, and that's kind of a shame because I love the drop tower.

Also as a side note if I were planning on getting rid of anything on that side of the park it would be Adventure Falls. Why is that ride still there? Why?

I said the same thing about Drop Tower's footprint and status in the park when I was told and the response was, "Yeah, but you know about all the problems its had this year (2015), right?" Drop Tower is a long way from the rapids ride though and I hear things that are wrong on occasion. I don't pretend to have a 100% hit rate and honestly, who even cares if I did?

^^ I agree...Adventures Falls is a waste of space in my opinion. Horribly uncomfortable water ride.

While I'm not a huge fan of Invertigo, it seems like one of the more reliable inverted boomerangs out there.

Drop Tower is a popular ride as well, but I remember the extensive down time on it last year. Didn't KD's also have some on and off down time last year?

It's not just 2015, there have been many years where:

-the ride wasn't open for months waiting on parts

-didn't rotate on the way up for a season

There have been a couple times where, I don't know how to explain it other than the cables that pull the carriage up to the top are tangled. I've had pictures of it before, I'll try to find one.

Eh, here's a quote from the 2012 season. Same thing happened in 2014.

For our last ride of the day on Saturday, we decided to ride Drop Tower... As soon as we got into the fastpass lane, I looked up to see this. The catch car had stopped itself midway down with one of the large cables dangling. The pictures don't quite do the justice, the cable could be seen through the entire park. When they told everyone to exit the lines, I noticed that the ride's control panel was flashing on and off, thinking to me maybe it had auto e-stopped itself. Interesting for sure, and scary!

Anyone think they could remove the Dino Theater and put something there, either move something there or put something new there? I think they could, how long has it sat unused?

Posted

If the Carowinds or Great America addition proves to be successful then I think it's very likely they'll expand the concept to the other unused 3d theaters in the chain.

The thought of them getting rid of drop tower sickens me because I have just recently fell in love with drop towers so I missed out on a lot of rides on them. Kings Island's is the closest intamin drop tower to me so I'd be greatly disappointed if they got rid of it. CP can get rid of power tower and put drop tower in that spot lol

I don't think they'll get rid of Drop Tower because it seems to be a crowd pleaser. People seem to enjoy just watching it, too.

Why do you guys want a giga coaster so badly at this park?

Probably because they are really good coasters?

So are MACK launched coasters and RMC coasters . . . I still dont understand why a giga coaster is so adamantly wanted in this park. If anything, I personally would love to see some wood.

Yeah but how reasonable is it to expect that at a Cedar Fair park in the near future? I'd love an RMC coaster at Six Flags America and I have higher hopes for that than a B&M giga coaster because I know it's way more likely to actually happen.

And with the reviews Fury's been getting (and how highly regarded and rare giga coasters are in North America) I think it's absolutely fair to believe a giga coaster is the best option for a new coaster.

And with Cedar Fair were more likely looking at GCI than RMC for wood. I don't know about everyone else but if I'm choosing between Fury 2.0 vs another GCI... It's not even a discussion.

Posted
remove Invertigo and drop tower to put a giga coaster?!? only cedar fair can make stupid choices

Every time a giga coaster comes up in any Cedar Fair park thread you shoot it down saying giga coasters are somehow ruining the world and Cedar Fair is the devil. It makes me laugh every time but unfortunately you're serious.

Serious question--being that Fury 325 is a very different ride than Intimidator and of course Diamondback, and being that both are excellent rides, what makes giga coasters so awful? Seriously they're kick-ass rides and I'd rather have two great coasters than one great and once mediocre (like a wing coaster or some alternative).

Posted

on the contrary, they are very nice to look at. but it does not make sense to have diamondback intimidator (indeed , does intimidator suck) or behemoth.

There are many varieties of coaster, thought to put those.

otherwise I want at kings island the inverted coaster highest in the world, but with the old trains.

Honestly if we do get a coaster, I wouldnt mind seeing a GCI woodie, I think before Cedar Fair does anything with RMC, I think they'll test them on Mean Streak first.

What's there to "test"? There have been many RMC's in the past few years, and all of them are wildly original with only a few errors on their record.

The only reason I don't see Cedar Fair putting in a RMC is loosely based on Matt Outmit's quote:

“I don’t want you to be so scared that you don’t want to ride it again,” Ouimet said.

RMC walks on that fine line with each coaster It was extremely entertaining listening to the comments from folks when I was at Silver Dollar City. People are genuinely scared of Outlaw Run! ...while others love it.

I highly doubt Kings Island is getting a giga in 2017. With the space they're supposedly using, it would be a non-existent fit. I can maybe see a compact woodie but IMO giga is not going to happen this year. I say 2019.

You can watch Coaster Studios video to see why. Now BEFORE you say anything about how he's a shill or some loser, keep in mind he's been right about nearly everything rumored.

No he hasn't

If they are getting a Giga, hopefully the station will be back behind Firehawk or in the Dino's Alive area, since the Action Zone area is already too crowded. It could run all the way up beside Banshee. It could still be great without the typical 90 degree elbow halfway through.

Yes, like remember when he was saying a couple of months ago that he was 100% CERTAIN that Cedar Point was to change Valravn's name before it was announced? Very reliable source...
