USRoadTripper Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Anyone seen Walk the Line? It's all anyone in Nashville is talking about (and eveyone is saying it's incredible) but I'm wondering if it's just hype. Would like to hear a review from someone not in Nashville! -Julie
SonOfBeastSucks Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I recently saw Derailed. It was a bore and the 'twists" were weak. It is not worth paying full price to see it. See a matinee screaning of it or wait until video.
UberBeavis Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Walk The Line is awesome. I was a bit pessimistic about it, when I heard that Joaquin Phoenix was doing all his own singing; but it actually worked. I can't wait till Dec 8 when we get to see King Kong at our employee holiday event.
Erik Johnson Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Here is my top 10 favorite movies. #1 Dr. Strangelove The perfect Stanley Kubrick film, also my favorite movie. #2 Ran My interest in Asian cinema stems from this Kurosawa classic. #3 Citizen Kane Everything falls in place on this one. Writing, acting, editing etc. #4 Star Wars The original one, my favorite movie when I was a kid. #5 The Wild Bunch Another western, just waiting for the 2-disc special edition DVD in Jan. #6 Once Upon a Time in the West Ok, another Leone western. #7 Clockwork Orange One of two Stanley Kubrick movies on my list. #8 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly I love westerns, Especially ones by Sergio Leone #9 Robocop My favorite "superhero" type movie. I only liked the first one. #10 Taxi Driver They do not get much more gritty than this one.
Chrissie Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I saw Harry Potter this weekend and it was FANTASTIC! I loved it, Its the best one so far!
Jonathan Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I like your list. Dr. Strangelove is near the top of mine as well.
KrakenKing Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I saw Harry Potter this weekend and it was FANTASTIC! I loved it, Its the best one so far! Just watched it today... I fully agree! Though, it sucks that they left out the Sphinx in the maze *Falls in love with Viktor Krum* He's so sexy!
sfmmFREAK Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 the movies i saw this week where: riding the bullet. (steven king) rocky horror picture show final destination Elf (sucked)
zburns999 Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 Well, its about time I finally saw this... I guess I can see the sequel now, or at least see the DVD.
tinkerbell Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 I saw Harry Potter. It was pretty good, except for the fact that they kept leaving out stuff. Oh well, at least it was better than the 3rd one.
Nrthwnd Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 just saw ZATHURA yesterday afternoon.... Was fun. I think the plot line of 'brothers learning to get along' was a bit tooooo long. But hey - it's a fantasy/action/LearningSomething movie, right? Effects were somewhat cheesy - and we really began to wonder how much SPOLIER ALERT of the house should really be, uh, intact after all the pounding and pounding and pounding it took from....... Well, we enjoyed it on the whole, and was fun to watch on a big screen. IMAX may have been more interesting to see, if it was on one of those screens. _________________________________________ 3 out of (a possible) 5 TPR 'Hoodies' 8) 8) 8)
Stitch Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 The Lost World : Jurassic Park I was in the mood for some Dinosaur mayhem so I watched this movie. I think it's good so go see it if you haven't
SonOfBeastSucks Posted November 25, 2005 Posted November 25, 2005 I saw Rent today. It was good, but I think it would be A LOT better to see the play. The plot was just slightly depressing, but did a good job of conveying the message "Make every moment count." As I said before, I'm sure the play is a lot better, where you can fell the energy. Overall, I did like it and it is worth seeing.
Teddymonster Posted November 26, 2005 Posted November 26, 2005 I saw Rent on Wednesday night and I thought it was great. My partner liked it on Broadway better, but I wasn't as fortunate. I really liked how well they harmonize together and as to what SOBsucks said, yes, the underlying storyline is sad, but it's real and happens to a lot of good people.
benzo41190 Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I just saw the new Harry Potter movie  it was racist
RtherBOnACoaster Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I saw "People Under The Stairs", some 90's horror movie. Its about a little boy who's mom is sick and cant pay rent so he and two men break into the landlord's house and the two men die and he is left their being chased by the owner with a gun and these kids they adopted live in the basement of the house and the guy cuts off their tungues becaus they were bad. Its a great movie
Spookbaby Posted November 27, 2005 Posted November 27, 2005 I saw Harry Potter ( I loved it and I'm a loser, I know ) I also saw "Just Friends" which lasted a little long and if you don't wanna pay to see it in theaters you should at least rent it. There is more then a fair share of "laugh out loud" moments." P.S. Has anyone else seen the previews for "Final Destination 3?" It's about a roller-coaster that crashes! There's NO WAY IN HELL I would ever go see it!
woah_killa Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I saw Harry Potter and Rent this week and i looooooooooooved both of them.
nyanko Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I saw Rent at a midnight showing opening day (I have seen it on Broadway 3 times) and I was mostly impressed, though I missed the couple of songs that were cut and am still unsure how I feel about all the spoken stuff. I think Chris Columbus was not really the right director to handle something like this, and though some of the emotion was emphasized since a camera can do close-up shots and all, a lot also seemed to be lost. The second half also seemed to be totally glossed over and WHAT was up with the beginning? "Seasons of Love" to an empty audiotorium before anyone knows who the characters are....wtf? I went with my boyfriend, who's not seen the show on stage, and I don't think he really liked the beginning very much either.

Also I am sure I will buy it on DVD. It just...could have been so much better.
coasterzak Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was AMAZING. I went on opening night and there were some freaks all dressed up like Harry, Voldemort, etc. Some chick pulled me off to the side as I went by and they all basically jumped me. They told me they needed a Cedric for the movie. When I asked what I had to do, they gave away what happens in the movie! I hadn't read the 4th book, so I was pretty pissed about that one. Needless to say, it was still a really good movie. Then, they put on a skit in front of the full theater and got booed back their seats! The chick playing Harry turned around and put a hex on the whole audience. It was quite interesting.
Jonathan Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Jabberwocky - Terry Gilliam's first film. I love Gilliam, but this thing was not very good at all compared to his other stuff (Brothers Grimm excluded). Felt like a Monty Python movie without any of the other Python men; well, I guess that's exactly what it was. 2/4 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - This was easily my favorite of the four. Extremely fast paced, lots of action, and it actually had some decent character development; everything a popcorn flick should be. I definitely like the more mature turn the films are taking. With that said, there's only so far you can go with these movies. I enjoyed the books as well, but the films and books have the same flaw; people are basically reading/watching them just to find out what happens next. There's not really that much depth to them. Golbet of Fire was well done, though. 3/4 Jarhead - After an initial viewing, this is one of my favorites of the year. I liked it in the same way as Apocalypse Now in that it was more of a psychological view of war. I think a lot of people have been disappointed with this because they were expecting an action movie, when in fact it is a character study. It felt very realistic to me, although I don't have any foundation for that claim. 3.5/4
benzo41190 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 OFMD I got to see Saw 2 and it was the single greatest movie out there. It was one of the first movies that I actually wanted to watch.
CoasterJunkie Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Saw 2 was horrible...you could tell it wasnt the same writer as the last one. Harry Potter: GoF was pretty good. Think it strayed a bit from the book by cutting some things, but hey some things had to go, so what are you gonna do.
