The Comet at Cascade Park in PA. It was built in the woods, and the last drop, though only about 60 feet, launched you up and into your very thin lap bar.

Scary stuff back in 1983 when I rode it. Almost lost my 8mm movie camera too as it was pitched up and over my head.

I would say some of my favorite drops would be...Goliath (SFOG), Deja VU, Acro, and Freefall. But thats just a couple...there is others that have pretty good drops too...I like the Boomerang coaster drops also.

Yeah... Like my sig says, I've only been to 5 parks. But of the 15 coasters I've ridden, the one with the most intense drop has to be V2: Vertical Velocity. Sure it's an impulse, but it still is pretty freaky to me.

It had occured to me, and I'm curious. For those of you who have been on pretty much every type of drop tower, how would you rank them against each other in terms of how intense they are? I mean the strongest negative Gs, producing the greatest "stomach in your throat" feeling. I'm talking about the different generations of Intamin drop towers, from the 1st gen. "freefalls" to their most current model, the S&S's, the Mosers, the various Tower Of Terrors at Disney parks, and so on.

So, if you think you can rank them, please do! I for one am curious, and I'm sure many others are as well!

Shock Drop at Beech Bend has the most intense drop I've been on.

BUT the most insane drop ride I've been on; and my favorite drop ride is definitely Giant Drop at Dreamworld, Australia. It's 400ft tall and the airtime is really, really wierd on this one. When you first drop; you get some really nice airtime. Then it kinda goes into floater airtime, but as you hit the bottom, there's this bit of...like, extreme airtime; I can't really explain what happens!

MGM TOT caught me out, but only because its so random!

IOA Dr Doom did nothing for me.

Detonator at Thorpe Park, Fabbri Mega Drop, I have found the most forceful due to the fact that it uses pneumatics to push you just that bit harder towards the ground, but as it isn't a constant push, it is just a jab at the top, it gives you a wide range of sensations on the way down

I don't think anyone's mentioned it, but Mystery Mine has a really intense drop with a twist, followed by a heartline and being suspended upside down...especially after the fireball in your face - it's very disorienting.

It has to be Superman power of tower at SFOT. Its the worlds tallest drop tower!

No, Giant Drop at Dream World in Australia is. It's 400ft compared to Superman: Tower of Power's which is 325ft (Which is also probably including the VERY top of the ride which you don't reach.)

For drop towers, Shock Drop at Beech Bend is crazy, so is AtmosFEAR at Morey's Piers. As for major parks, Drop Zone at King's Dominion and Acrophobia at SFOG are my favorite.

The strongest stomach feeling is not on any roller coaster or any large drop tower but it is actually on the small Moser drop towers. For those of you that have been on one of these, you know what i'm talking about...I have never felt a stronger stomach than I have on this ride.

It's not my stomach, but it's the feeling I get from that, that is so good. I used to get this feeling when I was on a boat ride when I was young, but now I don't on a boat ride. This ride still does it for me.

The most intense drop ride I have been on was the definitely the one at CYpress Gardens that is a permament park model of the ARM Super Shot. It's taller than the carnival ones. Than, it would the ARM Super Shot smaller one at carnivals. Than, it would be the Fabbri Mega Drop. I've been on it at 2 state fairs.

The Intamin Generation Drop 2 isn't that intense to me compared to those. The first version is just rough. The S&S aren't that intense to me either.

Thus, my list is this as in intense:

1) Cypress Gardens drop tower bigger Super Shot

2) Smaller Super Shot

3) Fabbri Mega Drop

4) Tower of Teror at either US park

5) Intamin Gen 2

6) S&S Tower

7) Intamin Gen 1- Rough not Intense

8) Moser Spring Tower- It's fun, but I don't think it's "intense".

I haven't been on the Chance drop tower.

It's a 400ft. tower. And I think the drop was about 390. You're as close as it gets to the top! But man, what incredible views, what an experiance.

I'm glad that you posted about your experiences on Giant Drop. Even if it's not the most intense drop tower in the world (right?), it definately is the most intimidating. VivaLaVibora, I will admit that "freefalls," or 1st generation Intamins are/were tough, I do think they were intense as well. But I think SF's Mark Shapiro had a good reason to remove them from all SF parks, due to the fact they had all become very rough, and were taking away from the guests' experience.

^Yeah, definitely most intimidating. The 'scariest' part about it is wether or not ToT is going to come thundering up! If it does; the whole tower shakes and trembles. I had a few experiance with it:

-When I was at the very top. I heard some screams and the tower started to shake. Man, I clung into the handle bars for my life!

-Going up the tower and the car comes speeding by; it's pretty loud, and you think you're about to slap hands with the oncoming car!

But the scariest experiance was when I was on ToT on the end row; we launched and started to incline back, going straight up. I look up into the sky and see the Giant Drop gondela freefalling back to earth; WHOOSH! It whizzes right down past us. And we're going about 80mph; and the gondela is coming down at what? 70mph?

Wow, it's something you need to experiance to understand how close and how insane it is!

I've never rode a 1st gen freefall, but I've heard that they have pretty good drops. I'm also impressed by the small Moser spring rides. While they're not intense, they pack a good punch for being the size that they are. I really enjoy Dr. Doom's Fearfall too...

The most thrilling drop I have ever experienced personally was on the teal side of Power Tower at Cedar Point. There was just something about sitting up there and waiting to fall that drove me crazy, and then being pulled down instead of just dropping that was amazing!!

Here are my favorites in random order:

-Drop Tower (Formerly Drop Zone - Kings Island)

-Pittfall (Kennywood)

-Demon Drop (Cedar Point)

-Power Tower (Cedar Point)

-Big Shot ( Las Vegas Stratosphere. The anticipation for this one really heightens and enhances the experience.)

Having been on several drop towers here's how I'd rank them by the strength of the "stomach feeling":

1) Drop Zone at CGA

2) Demon Drop

3) Tower of Terror (both DHS and DCA)

4) Moser drop tower

5) Mega Drop at fairs

6) Supreme Scream/Superman Tower of Power (SFoT)/Power Tower drop side

7) Double Shot at SCBB

8) Frog Hopper (actually give some decent air sometimes)

9) Power Tower shot side/Maliboomer (very weak)

Posted

1) Acrophobia (SFOG)

2) Drop Tower (KI)

3) Oh! Zone (Lake Winnie)

4) Pitt Fall (Kennywood)

5) Skydiver (Castles 'n' Coasters)

Honorable mentions:

Big Shot (Stratosphere)

Double Shot (Indiana Beach)

Superman: Tower of Power (SFOT)

Demon Drop (CP)
