p. 433: AlpenFury launched coaster announced for 2025!

Recommended Posts

I agree Robb! It has a really cool theme/name/logo, plus it goes with Behemoth (since it is basically Laviathon's sibling) and the Medieval Faire section of the park! Cedar Fair actually did a good job when it comes to that. That's almost as good of a job as Cedar Fair did matching Intimidator 305's theme with the Congo at KD.. oh wait!

And I still think the best elements on this ride (besides the drop), are going to be those kind-of-low turns to the ground! I have a feeling those will be pretty forceful, especially for a newer B&M! Hopefully between the 300' B&M 80* drop, those turns, and the world's largest brakerun the ride will be pretty good!

On a side note, this might be my favourite new name/logo to come out of Cedar Fair in a while...

Was just about to post this thought. I love the name and the logo. Would be even more awesome if they built a giant Leviathan creature outside the queue, like Kraken or Dueling Dragons. Of course, it would be even better the the Leviathan monster ate random children and line jumpers, but they probably cannot get the permits to have it do something cool like that. Ah well...

While a bit of a head scratcher at the similarities between Leviathan and Behemoth being installed back to back, what is more funny to me is another blatant example that Paul Rubens is full of crap and that his "expert opinion" can be bought. I'm curious what they had to give him in order for him to say this is the one ride he's most looking forward to next year, when you have two very unique rides opening at both Hershey and Dollywood. Really Paul, a B&M that is a bit taller than the hypercoaster across the park is the one that is your must ride over those other two? Maybe he doesn't think he'll fit into the restraints on the other two, so what he should have said was it's the ride he's most looking forward to that won't cause him to have a restraint non-closure walk of shame. How these parks think this guy's opinon gives any credence to their projects is baffling.

While I don't personally find Paul's comments that valid either, making pot shots about his weight and other childish comments isn't much better than those idiots who hate on TPR and post clueless comments like these.

This will be the only warning. Comments like these, which are obvious flame bait, will not be tolerated on this forum.

Okay, i think i am ready to give my opinion on this one.

First i want to point out that i have never been on a B&M Hyper. I think that the ride itself looks fantastic.

But i also think that this is one of the oddest choices for an attraction i have ever seen!

They have Behemoth, this is IMO not the right addition for CW.

I gotta agree with what Robb says, that this coaster wasn't meant for this park, it's so odd.

But partly, i personally also think that this is a tactical move from Cedar Fair... You don't mistake with 28 million dollars, i think they know what they are doing. And i think that the mind blowing coaster that we all have been waiting for is coming to Cedar Point in 2013.

When all that is said.

The coaster itself looks freaking awesome! It's just an fucked up location though...

Robb you're absolutely right...that weight/restraint shot was pretty childish on my part now that I had a chance to go back and read it. Feel free to edit my original post if you would like. Should have just left it at "this was the ride he was most looking forward to?" and left it at that. Apologies to all!

I love the name, REALLY love the logo, love the colors, and love the fact that B&M is jumping in the deep end for the first time in a VERY long time. It's a 300-foot coaster, so it's more than likely going to be a very good ride. It also signals that a trend might be starting with giga coasters, and that's a trend I can fully support!

However, I'm on the same boat as the people who are dumbfounded by the decision making process on where this coaster was sent. It's entirely possible it was meant for somewhere else like Knott's, but I guess we'll never know. Either way, I'll be there when it opens next year, I'm pretty eager to try this one out.

Seconded...I can only imagine how hard it was to resist the temptation of adding "hawk" to the end. Especially because Leviathanhawk sounds so incredible.

Is it possible that the reason that a coaster so similar to another ride already in the park is being built has to do with the incredible amount of people that CW sees every year? This is a unique--for B&M--coaster, that is going to dominate the skyline, but also dominate crowds. With the fast loading system they've seen success with from Behemoth, it's possible they wanted to accommodate as many guests per hour as they could, something well accomplished on a B&M hyper, in my experience.

This is a different ride with many similarities to one already in the park, so on the outside it seems like a mistake. It could be that there were concerns over having a ride that would force enormous lines on a park desperate for a new ride. No coaster kills a crowd like a B&M hyper, and there are going to be enormous crowds drooling over this thing. Again, all theory, no substance, but the queuing on this will be fast, and upkeep should be minimal, two things the exec's at CF should feel confident in expecting from a B&M with just the clamshell style restraints.

Perhaps we can sell this idea to the SyFy Channel!!?? Come on, a Leviathan that can also fly! Winning!

No. If capacity was the #1 concern they could've very easily went with a floorless or a flyer. I wasn't buying into the "this was meant for another park" line of thinking at first, but once the layout was released that almost seems like a given.

Mega Python vs. Leviathanhawk?

Leviathan looks like a fun ride, loving the track color. Everyone was looking for a gimmick, but all it did was break the stereotype of no 300ft beemer. At first I felt cheated, however in the end more coasters is always a good thing. All these complainers and haters, saying why build two hypers. Well, why build two wooden coasters, why did la ronde add Ednor, because, normal people won't even notice or care about similarities. Or maybe CedarFair is saving the good stuff for U.S.

I see they went back to the classic four-across hyper train design that they used on their hypers and hyper twisters. Anyway, I cannot wait for this to open up. Now there's three companies that builds Giga coasters: Intamin (of course), Chance Morgan (Steel Dragon 9000), and now Bolliger and Mabillard with Leviathan!

Flyers load much slower than a B&M hyper, there is no comparison to be had there. My experience with floorless trains is fairly limited, but neither of the two that I've been on loaded anywhere near as fast as what I've seen done on a hyper. Again, my capacity theory could be wrong, I just don't see a flyer being the solution.

Looks like the new records are just tallest and fallest in Canada. Was kind of hoping for something else as well.

Most whining by coaster Enthusiasts in a 12 hour period. Hopefully they put an oversized "golden ticket" billboard near the entrance to commemorate this achievement.

I'll say I'm happy Leviathan has these trains, but I also haven't been on the V trains. I just like the look of the straight 4 a lot better.

Behemoth: 1,545 riders per hour

Tatsu: 1,600 riders per hour

Loading time may be longer, but capacity is as good or better.

They probably considered it, but it sounds too similar to Levi Ethan Hawke (an up and coming gay porn actor that I just invented). There may be some confusion: "Hey man, I just got done riding Levi Ethan Hawke...it was big."

I do like the name, like most of you. I would also understand if Walibi Holland was building an I305 like coaster next to Goliath (46m tall). But adding 23m to a coaster you already have (Oke, not really... but you get the point). It's quite a strange story to me.

Anyway, I am not the B&M speed coaster type of guy but it doesn't look real bad. I did expect something more innovative though.
