^ While this is just total speculation, a park will never really admit when plans get shifted at last minute. And to be fair, they very well *could* have been planning for a "ride named Leviathan" at the same time as Behemoth, but that doesn't mean it was THIS ride.

 

Again, I'm just totally speculating on this, and have no real concrete information, other than I speak to a lot of industry people quite often, and things like this happen all the time.

 

It's very well possible that this ride was meant for CW all along, but personally I find it hard to believe, just because in the history of the amusement park industry, something like this is very rare.

 

I'm happy they are getting a B&M giga, but you just can't deny that something seems "weird" about this being built so close to Behemoth.

I don't remember if it has been said yet, and if it has I will reiterate it... I really LOVE the promo/concept videos! They definitely did not go the cheap route on those.

 

It's not like the cheap Skyrush video where it seems like No Limits.

Keith McVeen has been dishing out the good stuff for as long as I can remember. Glad for him that he was able to turn his talent into a legit business.

I think most people are happy with the addition (I know I am), but it's that "weirdness" that's throwing everyone off. At any other park, I would have been "holy crap, that's awesome". But here, I'm all "that's cool...but wtf?".

I don't know about you guys but if Kings Dominion decided to build a 400 foot coaster with a concept similar to i305s I most likely would not be complaining......Or if Carowinds did what CW is doing.

^^Well, unless that decision was made...I'd say more than a year ago, probably not. There's a lot of engineering that goes into these layouts and support placement, from the cross-beams to the footers. You can't really change all of that on a whim, it takes plenty of time to redesign.

Think of it as it's really hard to redesign a coaster on No Limits.

I know virtually nothing about the negotiation process a park and coaster company go through, but is it possible that CF basically ordered a hyper or giga for another park, made the decision to move it to CW, and then changed the layout? It seems unlikely but not unreasonable to me...

Seems reasonable. I'm pretty sure I heard that the planned GCI for California's Great America become Prowler at Worlds of Fun.

 

Oh, and the new ride looks awesome!!!

When they say "one of" they mean it's in the same league as Kingda Ka and Steel Dragon 2000.

Allow me to put on my conspiracy theory tin foil hat.

 

I haven't seen a drop length listed yet. We know the first hill is 306' tall, but they haven't told us the drop length. It drops into a trench, and it looks like there's no elevation change in the terrain. Could this be a longer drop than 300' and CF doesn't want us to know? You would think that the drop length is something they would want to advertise, but not if it upstaged MF. If it's a longer drop than 300', then it probably also goes faster than 92 mph. CF surprised me by saying 305 was the fastest gravity-driven coaster last year (even though they haven't reclaimed it since taking the trims off), would they do it next year with Leviathan?

^Also, with that too Steel Dragon 2000, is 318 feet tall, but only has a drop of 306' 9". This is 306' with a trench, which would mean that the drop is most likely going to be 9 inches lower. So could the record for this ride be "Tallest and Fasters Roller Coaster in Canada with the longest drop on a traditional lifted roller coaster." Not only breaking two Canadian records but also one world record in the process...

Making a change in the destination the ride is going to is very common, but any major changes to the design, not so much. Mainly because those designs take MONTHS to put together. If it's a chance of elevation for the station or something like that, it's not as big of a deal, but to totally re-design a ride for a different park at short notice, that isn't as common.

Exactly. At any other park that DIDN'T just get a B&M hyper coaster as their last coaster, you wouldn't have questioned it, even at one of the CF parks who already have a Morgan hyper from 10 years ago, you wouldn't question it. But this...sure, it will be great for the park considering what they've gotten in the 10 years prior to Behemoth...it's just weird, that's all.

Here's my opinion on the ride.

 

The Good:

I love the fact that B&M has stepped up and made a Giga Coaster. The layout looks incredible and I think the ride will be a success. The colors are definitely appealing and were a great choice.

 

The Bad:

I don't think the fact that they have similar B&Ms are the issue. I think the issue is they should have introduced a new train or a different type of track design. MF and Magnum have been compared because they both are a hyper & giga located in the same park. However, you can see a huge difference just by looking at the two. Magnum looks alot older trackwise & the trains whereas MF looks alot more modern. MF has new track design, new style trains, and a cable lift. Nothing really stands out on Leviathan that makes it look like an upgrade besides the height & speed. So in closing I think the layout & theme should stay just add new trains/track or a different lift to make it stand out as a completely new experience.

 

I feel that this is only the beginning, and Gigas will keep getting better espescially since there are now 2 company's producing them.

 

Well the GP aren't gonna see it that way they'll see it as "ohh let's ride the new coaster that we just got" rather than ignoring it regardless of the fact that it's from the same company.

That's exactly what I would do. I don't care what manufacturer it is, as long as it's an awesome coaster I will ride it.

 

Plus, we are enthusiasts and we want to get as much credits as possible and we won't ignore this coaster.

Always been a fan of the B&M mega coasters, so I really like the news they are willing to go over 300'. Kinda weird though that two gigas were built in 2000, it took 10 years to build another, and now here comes another so soon.

Looks pretty marvelous. I would have rather seen this at Dorney Park...

 

It would have been nice to see this at Dorney, they could certainly use at least a serious coaster to compete with their neighboring competitors (Hersheypark and SFGAd) more extensive collections.

Not to keep coming back to this, but I honestly don't think the average park goer will notice the similarities between the two rides, other than they are big and go fast. Sure, the more intuitive ones may catch on, but just your normal Joe the Plumber shouldn't. Of all the people that go to parks with multiple B&Ms, how many of them do you think notice that they all have the same track type? My guess is not many. We enthusiasts sorta take this for granted sometimes, but it probably won't register with many people outside enthusiasts.

This is exactly right. If they are going to notice anything similar, it's that it's a big coaster that doesn't go upside down.

 

I mean, I still remember when I worked at Disneyland pre-Splash Mountain I had guests SWEAR they went on the "Timber Mountain Log Ride" and I'd tell them, "You DID go on that ride...but it was at Knott's...not at this park." And then of course they would look at me like I was totally in the wrong, and somewhere, hidden around a corner at Disneyland, they would find the Timber Mountain Log Ride...

 

 

Guests are stupid. And watching all those people line up for both EDNOR and Vampire at La Ronde is just a prime example. And really, most of the people who were in line for EDNOR probably thought they were in line for Vampire...
