P. 2037: Siren’s Curse tilt coaster announced for 2025!

Did anyone on this forum ever get to ride Maverick with the in-line twist after the launch

I think you answered your question...

(Yes, I know it was removed before it was open to the public)?

Only the water filled test dummies rode it with the inline twist. When asked for comments, they didn't answer back. Sadly the world will never know now.

The apocryphal story is that Sandor Kernacs did and basically said "nah". I was extremely not there and have never heard the story confirmed by anyone who I would consider an authority.

I thought the designers, some staff, and construction workers got to test it out before removal? Right?

As rumor (well, legend by this point) goes, only one person ever experienced the in-line twist - Intamin President, Sandor Kernacs. Apparently, he rode it once and immediately knew it was too much for the general public and ordered the redesign.

Who knows how intense it actually was, but I imagine it would have been immensely more tolerable with these new restraints. I wish I could have experienced it - Those testing videos looked INSANE!

Also, Intamin recently updated their website, if anyone's interested!

Robb did a Water cup Challenge on one or 2 of the Trips they did.

Yes and unfortunately we had to stop doing them because people forgot that it was supposed to be about "fun" and took it too seriously, created drama, problems, flighting over rules and prizes, and it was no longer worth my time and effort to do something cool when people were assholes about.

Hmm...sounds familiar doesn't it?

Wait there were actually rules to that? I just assumed anyone that had ever water any left over was cheating anyways.

That's the thing, there weren't really any rules, but you had people who decided they were going to "make up" rules, and then become the police for their own made-up rules, telling other people what they can and can't do, etc, etc...

I remember at one point having to shout at a group of people saying something like "FFS people, you hold a cup of water on the roller coaster. THAT'S IT!!! The idea here isn't about it being some stupid competition the idea is that you CAN'T NORMALLY DO THIS DURING THE DAY AND IT'S A FUN AND COOL THING TO DO so shut the FUUUUCK up, stop your complaining, go grab a cup of water and HAVE FUN!!!!"

And then people still continued to argue over what was the right and wrong way to hold a cup of water or what "counted" towards your score, etc...

In case you haven't noticed, I've pretty much "given up" on humanity, which most certainly includes idiot self-entitled insecure die-hard fact checking roller coaster nerds. We don't need them. The rest of you who can have FUN at a park without being super annoying, you're welcome to stay here and hang out!

For whatever it's worth the one at SFOG was a lot of fun, until after the first drop, then it was wet and cold, but still fun.

But yeah, it's all fun and games until there is an old Schwarzkopf track bolt up for grabs, then everyone turns into miserable savages.

Even with that redesign, Maverick still opened Memorial Day weekend that year (the only new coaster the Point has put in recently that wasn't open on Opening Day - even TTD was open on the first day of the 2003 season!)

I still tell my friends about doing the water cup challenges with you guys at Bay Area Bash! They were a lot of fun and it sucks that people messed it up at other parks We weren't even playing for any prizes (that I knew of at least), it just really was cool to do something fun you couldn't do during the day.

So I do thank you for the awesome memories!

Not to toot my own horn, I was pretty good at it on Medusa, so I like to see my friend's reactions when I tell them how much water I kept in my cup

The water cup challenge sounds like a hoot! I would love to do it. It's too bad when people ruin a fun game... I don't care about the prize, I just want to try that out!

In the late 80s/early 90s, there was a show that put a group of kids on Magic Mountain's Revolution with hamburger, fries and a shake. Got it on VHS (!?!?) buried somewhere. The first drop went fairly ok, then the turn going up the next hill is where the fun started.

I did eat an ice cream cone on the Zippin Pippin back in 1990... they were like "go ahead, you will be fine." I was a goofball kid who was happy to do it! It's surely against the rules to take food on rides now - I'm thinking of the little girl who choked on a piece of gum while riding Raging Bull.

I remember laughing until I almost puked doing the water cup challenge at Canada's Wonderland on Stunt Coaster!

It sounded like it would be so easy and then after you ended up with a lap-ful of water after the initial launch and helix, you realized it wasn't as easy as it sounded. Our entire team was soaking wet by the end of the challenge!

I remember me, my Dad and partner saying that it was the highlight of our day (not that it wasn't ALL awesome)...but we all thought that was just the most fun idea ever.

Although I do seem to remember some folks complaining or booing about a team (or family?) that came up with the idea of pouring all of their water into another container and then pouring it back into the cups at the end of the ride. I believe that they won the challenge?

Geez, seems like cheating to me! I would think the park would have rules set up to prevent bogus stuff? Anyway, I still wanna do it! But no arguing for me.

^ And that's what likely ruined the challenge...people were saying that the winners were cheating and then decided to boo and talk shit to them once they were announced. If I recall, it was a freaking family of four with two smaller children!

I admit that we thought that they may have been cheating because I was pretty sure that they weren't supposed to be bringing refillable soda cups on rides...but we weren't going to sit and bitch about it. We didn't care because....WE HAD FUN!!!! I admit that we actually said at the time..."Gee, why didn't we think of that??" But we don't drink soda...only beer, so we didn't have soda cups!

The funniest part of the challenge for us was where the 4th guy on our team (I can't recall his TPR name) got the idea to try and hold the entire amount of water in his mouth during the ride and then try to spit it into the cup at the end.

I won't go into details, but let's just say that it didn't work out well too for him.

This is exactly what I'm talking about!!!!!

Seriously...

WHO GIVES A FUUUUCK!!!!!

You are playing for crap the park is throwing away. So based on that response would you have been one of the people shouting, yelling, and complaining that people were "cheating" at the "cool thing you got to do and you should shut up and NOT complain because assholes just like you are the exact reason why we don't do it anymore" game????

This shiit makes my head hurt. You get to do something cool at a park that no one else gets to do and that should make you happy. But that's not enough for you. You have to add drama and stupidity to it and make it not fun anymore.

So what if they figured out a clever way to keep the water in the cup.

THATS THE WHOLE FUCKING IDEA OF THE GAME!!!

Ugh. You make me honestly sick.

We could be doing so much cool sh!t and doing awesome events again, but it's because of people exactly like you that we don't.

Thanks. I hope you're happy.

We honestly discussed a couple of weeks ago opening up some of the days on one of our private tours this year and doing a couple more "bash" events in the mid-west and east coast. I came really close to say "ok, let's do it! We'll give it another try!" But then I see posts like this and I realize I can't. I have honestly lost all patience with people that it is not worth my time or effort to put up with it.

^^Makes me sad that it has to be that way, but if opening up an event will ruin your time because it opens it up for stupid people, I totally get why you don't do it any more. I wish there was some way to filter them out But I still appreciate all of the other things you do for us and this site! I wouldn't spend my time on here if TPR wasn't 95% cool kids

If you think that someone might be cheating on a game where the only rule is to have fun, you clearly suck at life.

Please tell me people didn't argue about passing the sword relay games at least.... otherwise I weep for humanity. I've always wanted to try that relay game on a coaster but Asian park's don't really ever do enthusiast events or big media days... although reading some of the topics lately, maybe they are smarter for not doing that.

That's what we were thinking too...we were all still laughing over the jist of the game after all was said and done. Luckily, we went from there to night ERT on Leviathan so it only took a couple of laps to dry off.

That sucks, but I certainly understand where you are coming from, Robb. I'm really starting to lose faith in humanity unfortunately...sad, but true. If I could go into detail the sh%t that my partner and I have had to deal with in terms of doctors, insurance and Medicare while he is battling cancer (and numerous complications as a result), it would literally make you throw up.

The more I realize how greed, money, power and just downright stupidity play a role in every day life, the more and more depressed I get.

^ Tin Foil Hat time! That remark wasn't to you by the way but there IS this conspiracy theory around that there is a cure for cancer going around. About how the Big Guys are hiding it away from the general public so the insurance companies can still make their money. So they are saying these people rather have their money then save lives and how they dont care if you loosed loved ones and are in mourning. My dad even believes in it! I just hope this isnt true because if it is there is some sick people running this world.....So back in their mind they would be like "Hey Kid I dont care if your grandma dies I just want my gold planted Bugatti!!" But in all honest I dont know if this is true or if its just another tin foil hat theory. Sorry I didnt mean to get dark but when I read that it made me think of that. It will be messed up if people who value money over human lives actually run our world...
