bluestreak
How about a new Frontiertown expansion entitled "Wooden Nickel Village" complete with meals cooked on skillets, bread made out of cinnamon, and a wooden roller coaster themed to criminals on the lam? That sounds vaguely familiar...

thesman
I feel like mean streak is too valuable to the park (despite how rough it is). I could see a remake of the ride wether its by RMC or GCI.

grsupercity
Frontier town Polarcoaster anybody?!?!?!? Im cool with a ppolarcoaster if it actually has a 500 foot drop. I also think an infinity coaster that goes upside down 18 times would be cool. Either one would be a record breaker.
WolfBobs
According to this article (http://www.newsnet5.com/news/local-news/oh-erie/mean-streak-roller-coaster-coming-down-at-cedar-point) Mean Streak will be demolished for future use of the area. Same news reporting agency also reported Mantis would be demolished. Just saying...
coasterbill
They didn't mark a bunch of supports so they could tear the ride down. This has to be an iron horse conversion. Pay attention people, this reminds me of when they were power washing and even painting Mantis on webcam and people still acted like they were getting rid of it. BeansproutMidget
Whatever option the park takes, I don't mind too much. RMC? Awesome, that's gonna be so cool! All these cool elements and steel and possible records and all sorts of possibilities! GCI? Great, track re-working, new elements and updates, and a better ride in general! How fantastic! Tear it down? Cool, more room for development in that area/whatever else the park has planned! It also creates room for more speculation! While it is definately leaning more towards RMC/GCI, And I would love an RMC Mean Streak, I'll still keep my head open.
ImNotOneOfYou
I vote anything besides a GCI refurb. I just don't think they can make the ride *that* much better. Plus they would have a hard time marketing that and getting people to ride it... at least the GP. To the GP, a GCI refurb will mean absolutely nothing. In my opinion, the only way to get people to ride whatever is back there is to RMC it and rename it, or tear it down and start from scratch with a brand new ride. Anything? So if they would theoretically relocate the entirety of Lakemont Park where Mean Streak would be, you would take it over a GCI refurbishment? The answer is no. I also want to point out how nobody here is complaining about Cedar Point's amount of roller coasters going down.
XII
I'm just happy that Mean Streak is getting demolished. Yes, an RMC replacing it would be awesome, but even if they just decide to replace Mean Streak with a park bench, or a lemonade stand, or a Wacky Worm, all of those things would be an improvement on that spot. Good riddance Mean Streak.

AdventureJack
This is probably just being too optimistic but the phrasing "gets the axe" sounds more permanent and major than "minor reprofiling." Kinda implies the name is changing or the ride is gone entirely, which wouldn't happen with just reprofiling. Yeah, Cedar Fair likes to be clever when it comes to things like this. I mean we might be overanalyzing here but when it comes to announcements in this industry EVERY. WORD. COUNTS.

PVA62
I would have liked to see an RMC conversion, but tearing it down and starting over is a great plan. Looking forward to seeing what they with all that space. Could put a nice family coaster, a dark ride, and some flats back in all that space. *edit: I could see them moving some of those maintenance sheds around as well. blk_mamba
Cedar Point tearing down Mean Streak makes sense. Cedar Point point prides itself on building record breaking roller coasters. The current layout does not lend itself to being converted into a record breaking wooden coaster, or RMC hybrid. If they are going to build a record breaker they need to start fresh if they want to build something over 180 ft that goes over 73 mph. Personally Mean Streak was never as bad as people made it out to be, but I understand that it sits on a large plot of land and was never very popular. I a surprised that they are presumbly adding back to back roller coasters. I know roller coasters are in their DNA but at some point hey have to branch out to other rides. Tearing down Mean Streak puts them in a double bind where either: A. Families will be mad b/c Cedar Point is adding another major thrilling record breaking coaster or; B. Coaster boys are going to be upset that Cedar Point would take out a roller coaster to add more family rides or expand their hotel properties. I thought for sure they were expanding their water park. I actually think they still will. It seems like every year they invest a lot into the park, maybe they will do both.
christianscoasters
I'm pretty excited for whatever comes. Of course there are all of the RMC rumors. I have no doubt that CP would make it one of, if not THE best RMC out there. But then again, I'd also be interested in seeing if GCI can/will do a re-do of a coaster. I'm not talking about something like Ghostrider, I mean a complete re-do with lots of new elements and changes. Let's also not rule out Gravity Group here... Also, I'd be excited if it was just completely torn down. There is SO much land right there. Can you imagine what they could do with it?
RollerManic
Wow, after all these years of silly ambitions, it finally has come true. The stars must be aligned! The greatest RMC prophecy has been met! Except, it hasn't been confirmed yet what they are doing with it, so guess I should hold my statement. I'm personally hoping more for a GCI than an RMC. Blue Streak is amazing but it can't fill the void of a modern wooden coaster that would be without Mean Streak.
bluestreak
^ to be fair, Mean Streak didn't really fill that void either.
RollerManic
^No, it really didn't, but if anyone said it did, then we could probably agree it did so unspectacularly.
Invertalon
I highly doubt Mean Streak is coming down completely. When at the park a few days ago, we rode MS (which is running really well, actually) and I took a careful look at all the foundations. Only certain areas are marked, not all of them. It leads me to believe either the ones marked will be going (or staying). Otherwise, why mark and note specific foundations? Pretty clear to me what is going on at least. MidwestThemeParks
Why's it going away? Well, we can't say just yet. But now's your chance to pay your last respects to the park's wooden thriller. THE FUTUREWe're making way for future development in FrontierTown. What's next? Keep watching to find out! Based off of these quotes taken from the website, I don't think they are completely tearing down Mean Streak. They tell us to keep watching for what's coming next and also say pay your respects to the parks WOODEN thriller. Maybe they say this because it no longer will be a wooden thriller, but RMC will convert it to steel.
Duff
The current layout does not lend itself to being converted into a record breaking wooden coaster, or RMC hybrid. Disagree. Mean Streak does lend itself to that. Mean Streak's overall layout is similar to the Texas Giant, which was the first RMC transformation.
