He's not heckling you, he just feels the need to post as often as possible to as many threads as possible.

Of course, I find it pretty hard to imagine that his young mind can even fathom the whole math lesson we just had on the physics of the first drop of Millennium Force. Of course, most of us are also saying "who cares?"

Duly noted Wes, let's get back on topic.

Yes El Toro has seat belts.

I my three trips this year stapling was not as bad for normal "girthed" people as last year but you still occasionally get an overanxious ride op. They do have to staple in larger clientele as the bars do have to be lowered to a certain level before trains can be dispatched

Do you think that El Toro will slowly beat the crap out of itself, like everyone is predicting Voyage will do?

By looks alone, I would still put Voyage ahead of El Toro. I suppose I will wait until I ride both coasters to form a real opinion.

^ The pre-fabricated design of the Intamin woodies makes them both less prone to roughness and easier to replace problem sections than other woodies.

But the Intamin woodies don't have ejector air like Millennium Force!

I just rode El Toro for the first time a few weeks ago. It was great! VERY smooth, fast, lots of airtime, and comfortable cars.

In my opinion. it is hard to compare El Toro to The Voyage because they are both such different rides. Yes, they are tall and fast and all that, but Voyage for me is more like a terrain coaster (The Beast) whereas El Toro is a great out and back (Shivering Timbers, though ST is NOT all that it is cracked up to be).

As Elissa said earlier, I could ride El Toro all day without too many lasting side effects. The Voyage, however, is just too intense, and I found myself needing some time off between rides.

The El Toro cars were very comfortable, and with the low sides, they felt like Millennium Force cars. Lots of open space and air, unlike the PTC cars and their box-like feel. Just my observation.

I would love to ride these two coasters at night to get a real feel for them. I am sure Voyage would be amazing with the tunnels and woods location.

While I haven't ride one of them I still will give my opinion(don't flame me guys )

El Toro is a huge, very cool ride with more airtime than anythings else in this world(except Balder maby). the drops are superb, and the trains rule! A realy new-age wooden design.

The Voyage on the other had is even bigger, longer and even more agressive, not in terms of airtime, but as a whole ride. It has good airtime, not big, just enjoyable, laterals, and its totaly out of controll.

I could of course just say now that Voyage is the best, but not without explanation. First of all, I prefer old style rides over new. Why? I don't know, I just love the feeling of a little roughness with out of control a feeling. Second, In my eyes El Toro is nothing more than an airtime machine, cuss so far as I've read, people only talk about the huge airtime and the boring twister section, so if I read i right, it has nothing more to offer than steep drop with tons of airtime.

The Voyage however is a total package. It has everything a good woody needs, its high, it has tunnels, its has 90 degrees turns, is has laterals, and its totaly out of controll till you reach the brakes. Its like a never ending wild ride, so wild that most people would want it to be shorter. And maby thats the main reason El Toro is prefered by more people than only the airtime fans. Its just to long, if they had cut of like 1/6th it would still be awsome, but then you could re-ride it. While Voyage is better as ride, the re-rideable factor is way to low.

Thats my opinion, yes I'm kinda a Voyage fanboy, but still I think this opinion is writen form a fairly neutral standpoint.

eh, to me at least, tunnels and 90 degree turns don't mean much as in a woodie doesn't need them to be great.. and it sure as hell doesn't need to have great height (I love Phoenix and Cornball)

I do, however, like the out of control aspect of rides. However, there is a certain point when a ride can be too rambunctious. I think Voyage is right around that point..

No offense, but the opinion of someone who hasn't ridden either ride is not something I can take seriously.

I can give you opinions of movies I haven't seen based on what I've read on the back of a DVD and what's said in newspaper reviews, but that would be pretty pointless, wouldn't it?

I'll say I loved Voyage at night, but my first ride on it during the day I was pretty bored with it. It got to a point where it was too aggressive and lasted for too long for me to really "enjoy" it. At night I liked it more, but that was because for some bizarre reason I like the feeling of being shoved in a sack where you cannot see anything and thrown around for several minutes.

I've never ridden El Toro at night, but I'm more content with the first ride I had on it and since compared to my rides on Voyage during daylight. The only downside I find to El Toro is that it seems incomplete, going from airtime express out-n-back to random speed session twister section. If it had returned for more airtime filled hills or a helix or something for its finale I'd be happier with it. It just doesn't seem complete to me (Of course, having a top 5 woodie and saying it needs something else to be better is pretty amazing for only Intamin's 3rd woodie), but at the same time Voyage seems too complete, like it tried to be the suck up in class and go for the extra credit where extra credit wasn't being offered.

I will say that both rides are really awesome and I'm glad I had the opportunity to ride them. I'll also say that I won't be returning to ride Voyage until I know there will be night time rides available, whereas I will eagerly ride El Toro any chance I get. (and no, it's not just because it's in nearby New Jersey, as I hate that state and all that a visit to it entails.)

Derek's comments about completeness resonate well with me.

I love a aggressive coaster that is able to beat you up and steal your lunch money, but I also like airtime. In my overall rankings of woodies Voyage is one spot higher than El Toro.

They are both great and we are lucky to have both in the US. For people that prefer a smoother ride El Toro will be their choice. For those who don't mind an aggresive ride Voyage will be their choice. Luckily I like both types if done properly.

My Top 6 woodies have 3 from each category.

Airtime: Phoenix, Balder, El Toro

Aggressive: Cyclone, Avalance, Voyage

  • 2 weeks later...

I rode El toro Last month and just rode Voyage this past weekend. I think Hands down el toros drops and airtime are better then voyage. but thats all that el toro has on Voyage. the banks of voyage i like better then the smooth as glass turns on el toro.

Overall all i like Voyage better. its just got so much more then what el toro has. El toro is a 1 trick pony where voyage is an overall wooden coaster. It is a little intense after a few rides in a row you are stumbling around but isn't that what coasters are supposed to do to you?

Woodies are supposed to feel like rickety not B&M smooth!!!

El Toro reminds me of what it felt like riding Batman at SFGADV for the first time in the early 90's. Here was something completely different that brought steel coasters two a new level of excellence we hadn't seen before. And look how steel coasters from just about every manufacturer have improved since then. I think the Intamin wooden coasters are just as significant in coaster design evolution, and we'll just see better, more refined designs from all the wood coaster designers because of it.

I still love hammer and nail woodies, and I don't think the new Intamin design means the end of them, we just have more variety now.

I'll tell you what. After this past weekend riding Voyage several times in dark, it has solidified it's place as my #1, by a long shot. El Toro firmly drops to #2 (nothing wrong with that).

As everyone at Holiwood Nights can attest, this ride blew me away beyond words! It was downright scary. No other coaster on the face of this earth does what Voyage does. It IS aggressive, but leaves you absolutely wanting nothing more at it's end, it is coaster nirvana. It was a nonstop assault on every coaster sense that I have, and that triple down in complete darkness is the most incredible element I have ever experienced.

Where as El Toro peters out in is final third, Voyage has enough energy to continue out into the parking lot and back. Thankfully, the ride ends with the same bang it began with, leaving my friends and I absolutely STUNNED, and talking about it all weekend.

This is where I disagree, but then again that's kind of what forums are for.

Maybe in a few years el toro will get a little rougher but i think the 2nd half is ::yawn:: compaired to voyages twisties. I like forceful rides. if intamin could have a better layout I think I might like the Prefabs better.

but I will say you can not beat el toro's first drop ::drool::

I'm... not so sure you've even been on El Toro.

My first ride on El Toro i thought the COMPLETE opposite. If El Toro was talking to me at the time, it would say this: "I'm getting tired.. i'm lossing speed, Just after this turn.... NOT! I lied, I'm stonger than ever! HA HA HA HA!"

I can't say anything, I mean without being on it, but the POV hasn't proven to me to have the same force at the end. Especially with Voyage having a MCB and all...
