singemfrc
With the all but announced Dive Machine going to Cedar Point for 2016, could SFMM go with a Dive Machine for their 20th Coaster? I know it could be "similar" to Superman, but yet still unlike anything on the West Coast. Of all the speculation I have had for their 20th I never really gave a Dive Machine thought until now. How is a Dive Machine similar to Superman?
RAWKIN_coaster38
^Vertical drops? That's the only similarity I see. Â A dive machine on the West Coast would be really nice, but what SFMM really needs is more good flats. Maybe one of the rumored air races? SoCalJasonland
They need something like Helix at Liesberg to replace Revolution and Viper. A good long terrain coaster on the mountain. Or possibly something like Firechaser Express. Â
Vonni
That's why I put similar in quotations. Because of the vertical drop.

CDawg
Or how about nothing, Six Flags parks add nothing but phony attractions, such as the new "coasters" that went to several of the parks. They need better coasters, better safety records, everything needs to be better...

Vonni
I agree the park does not need another coaster. I agree the park needs way more flats, better shows, new water rides, Hurricane Harbor expansions. But its pretty well known that SF and SFMM are going to want that 20th coaster sooner than later. That's why I speculate as to what the next coaster addition could be. Not because I want another one, or that the park needs another one. Just because it is inevitable. MagicMountainMan
How exactly does the park have plenty of room to expand? Unless they go further into the parking lot, they are going to have to start taking out rides.

Jew
How exactly does the park have plenty of room to expand? Unless they go further into the parking lot, they are going to have to start taking out rides.  There's lots:  1. Deja Vu's spot+Slingshot Spot+re-developing that whole back area (I know that would technically count as removing a ride, but it's a freaking carnival ride that was most likely brought in to make some extra money until that spot could be re-used anyways...doesn't really count)  2. The Batman stunt show theater isn't being used for a show  3. Flashback/old metro maintenance space still hasn't been utilized  4. Picnic area (if they went with that option, I imagine they would utilize the Flashback space as a new picnic area that can be dual use for Hurricane Harbor and SFMM)  5. Many backstage buildings are trailers...shifting around things backstage would open up space behind Scream
DILinator
I've often wondered... Does SFMM own any of that land to the South of the park, behind Viper and Roaring Rapids? Or any of the land to the East of the park, behind Apocalypse and Riddler's Revenge? If they do, those could be potential expansion spots as well...
Manic Monte
^ I don't believe they do. However, there is also an area to the right of Apocalypse that can also be used. Â And let's not forget, the park can also build up and over things, and this they can do until the end of time really. Look at how Tatsu went in. While FT still looks fun, I woulda have loved to see even better usage of that area's terrain. Like you said, though, there's definitely more room on the "mountain" to expand! thrillseeker4552
Even though they don't need to, I would hope that SFMM would remove a ride before adding a new one, considering that they have plenty of coasters and their maintenance can barely keep up as it is. Manic Monte
^ That's always an option, but be careful what you wish for. Because as soon as it's announced that its Ninja being removed, the complains will be massive.

Or any of the land to the East of the park, behind Apocalypse and Riddler's Revenge? If they do, those could be potential expansion spots as well...  No, Newhall Land and Farming Co. (the original developer of Magic Mountain) retained ownership of all of the surrounding property when they sold the park to Six Flags. Currently, they are proposing the Entrada project to the south of the park and Mission Village project to the east of the park. These are at various points of environmental and planning approvals.  This isn't to say they could potentially sell some of the left over property to Six Flags at some point as the boundaries of the proposed developments don't directly abut the park's current boundaries. I would think any sale would come with some noise and height limitations though.  Entrda Tract Map proposal (showing commercial/office planned next to Magic Mountain, all access is off of Magic Mountain Pkwy): planning.lacounty.gov/assets/upl/case/tr53295_exhibit-map_20140820.pdf  Mission Village Tract Map proposal (showing a park, commercial/office, and a Retirement Community abutting Magic Mountain, with all access off of Magic Mountain Pkwy or the 126 Freeway): planning.lacounty.gov/assets/upl/case/tr_061105_mapEM1.pdf (see 15, 16, and 20 on the map) Edited August 9, 2015 by warrenslo
DILinator
^ Thanks for the detailed response! I assume the two projects you mentioned are housing developments? That would definitely appear to limit any further expansion those directions, especially for a noisy coaster. Still, if SFMM needs to expand much more, they definitely have plenty of room in park, as others have pointed out.
Bigbear1980
Hi,  I am a first time user and poster to the site, I am hoping someone can give me a few pointers and also answer a few questions.  My wife and I are travelling to California in October for her 30th birthday, we are both big rollercoaster fans and are wanting to plan a trip to SFMM. I have checked our itinerary and the only day we can do it is on Monday 12th October (Columbus Day, I believe). I know the park is only open 10:30 - 18:00 and we want to maximise our time as we only have the 1 day, so here are my questions.  1. How busy is it likely to be on the day we are going, has anyone any experience of past Columbus Days? 2. Should we invest in the Fast Passes, if so which one would you recommend? 3. Are most rides open at this time of year or do they tend to have rides closed for maintenance in the quieter season? 4. The website says it opens at 10:30, is that ride open time or park open time i.e. can you get there and walk around prior to the rides officially opening? 5. Is the valet parking worth paying the extra for or would you just use normal parking?  Also if there are any other hints and tips you can provide for us, that would be really appreciated.  I am going to start reading through this thread to see if I can find any of the answers, however there is a lot to read through for a first time visitor, so thought I would get it all in a post.  Many thanks in advance  Bigbear
Superbatboy
I don't see MM removing any coasters until they get their 20th, they want that record of course. After that, they probably wouldn't be able to add to many because like someone said maintenance is already overwhelmed as it is. Â I really do hope they do something with Deja Vu's spot, it's saddens me everytime still seeing the footers there.

There is a Bring A Friend for $25 coupon for Season Pass Holders that day. It shouldn't be nearly as packed as the bring a friend free days. I went to bring a friend for 9.99 last week and the park was manageable.  2) I would always budget for a fast pass and buy it if the crowds warrant it. Do you want to ride rerides? You should have no problem riding every ride once.  3)They try and do off maintenance in September so everything is ready for Fright Fest (which doesn't run that Monday but runs every other operating day in October). They usually close Tidal Wave because its a water ride.  4) They start letting Gold Pass members in the park around 10:15. They let discover card members use the gate on the far left to get into the park at 10:25. I recommend arriving an hour early and getting in line because if your first in line you can usually get in 5 more rides between 10:30-11:00 (Do rerides you will be forever greatful) Also, in the past they have done early enter events for season pass holders on that day. A gold season pass goes on sale on labor day weekend and is usually cheaper on labor day then a general admission then you can use the gold pass lane to get in and bring your wife for the $25. By the way the Gold Pass lane is on the far right hand side.  5) I'm a poor student and I don't invest in the Valet. It costs alot and if you arrive at the park 1hr early like I suggested you will be in the first parking lot and not have to walk far.

But I think I'm outside the circle in saying Deja Vu was one of my 5 favorite rides in the park and not only was I sad to see it go the abandoned plot of land and remaining footers don't make it any easier.
