I have a question for any of those who are familiar with the launch system on Full Throttle. From what I have previously thought, LSMs need initial momentum from the train before they can propel it. This is the case on coasters such as Maverick, Cheetah Hunt, Sky Rocket, Helix... Is this simply not true or is there something that is propeling the train into the LSMs on Full Throttle? I attached a picture with parts labeled. If I'm guessing correctly, 3 is the first set of LSMs but what is 1 and 2? I also know theres a kicker wheel further back but I'm guessing thats just to put the train into the station. If anyone has some knowledge they'd like to share it would be greatly appreciated!

all i know is on full throttle it seems to hit instantly. there's doesn't seem to be that split second where you feel it just starting to go. at least for me, it feels this way because if i don't have my back just right on the seat, it bothers me from the initial jolt. it's the only launch coaster that does that to me. wether it be the seat or the launch system, i just need to be sitting correctly.

HI all. I'll be at the park on Sunday for a few hours. First visit since 2010 and so of course I got questions.

Are Sundays usually super busy right from opening or does it not get too bad until afternoon?

Can gold pass holders enter the park 15 minutes early? I remember that used to be one of the pass perks.

Also, how many coasters have single rider lines?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Sundays arent too bad relative to Saturdays. X2 and TC are usually busy in the morning, but TC has Single Rider as does Lex Luthor, Riddler, Viper, Revolution, and Green Lantern. Gold Pass still gets you in early in the far right lane, but how early varies..sometimes they don't open up on time, and sometimes theres a line even for early entry.

I don't believe trains need to be propelled into LSM's. I think most coasters with LSMs roll into their launches cause the system is capable of accelerating an already moving train and for whatever design purposes, companies go with this method either for efficiency of just because they can. lol The new rides Premier have been making like Superman Ultimate Flight at Discovery Kingdom and Tempesto at Busch Gardens rely solely on LSMs to move and launch.

Also if I'm not mistaken, 1 in that picture is the mechanism that unlocks and locks the trains and two looks like some sort of start to the LSM system.

LSM's and LIM's are almost the same, except that LSM's fire one after another instead of all at once. They don't need forward momentum to launch. Part #1 looks like it might be a pop up brake.

Yeah I was gonna say 1 does look like a pop up brake and 2 just looks like a guide into the lsm.

1 is a friction brake pad similar to the brakes used on the Matterhorn. Sky Rocket uses the pad style friction brake as well. 2 is to make sure the reactor plate at the bottom of the train is aligned properly. Other coasters use a similar device as well.

I went to Magic Mountain for the first time yesterday. I brought a seasons pass membership the night before and the dining plan. Once we were in the parking lot, we were greeted with a lot of cars. Can I just say I was not expecting this many people on a weekday? I think we parked in the F parking lot. Luckily for us, there was a bus that would take us to the front gate. Once we were at the front gate, we were having issues pulling up our season passes on our phones because we didn't have any signal. However, eventually I got it to work. Finally we were inside of the park! We opted out into getting flash pass. We walked straight to the flash pass building. We didn't know that you can only reserve one ride at a time. We were about to not get it but then an employee explain to us how it works. We decided to get the regular one. The employee gave us an instant reservation for Goliath. We walked all way to Goliath and we skipped the entire line. After the ride attendant checked us in, we reserved Scream then got in line for the back of the train. They were only running two trains and I think they could've been a little faster in their operations but they weren't unbearably slow. We were on the ride and we dispatched, we began our slow climb up the lift hill. I'm from Charlotte, North Carolina. Go to an amusement park called Carowinds. We have a B&M hyper called Intimidator and a B&M Giga named Fury 325. Just riding those rides all the time may Goliath not so scary. The drop was long but surprisingly, I felt nothing. I still had fun because Goliath was very smooth and g-force induced. After getting off of Goliath, we headed over to Scream.

IMG_1971.jpg.4a91ccfcffca75677c1a6f0a916f01f7.jpg

I have heard some about Scream. I heard it was very rough for a B&M. Once we dispatched and headed up the lift feel I was extremely excited to experience my first B&M floorless coaster. I have been on Griffon and SheiKra at Busch Gardens but I don't consider those floorless coasters because they're not based on multiple inversions. One we hit the pre drop and turned right, my ear hit the restraint.

IMG_1968.thumb.JPG.34cea3ce4eb5554cb121ab3dec777487.JPG

didn't even notice the parking lot below it while we were on the ride. I was very surprised that they didn't take our photos.

IMG_1972.thumb.JPG.644d4c554f1bd101fe6081bd00a56ac2.JPG

After exiting the ride, we headed over to the line of Riddler's Revenge.I've heard some pretty bad things aboutthis being Beamer too but after having a great ride on Scream, I was not afraid of this ride at all. When we got to the top of the line the ride attendant scanned our device and we reserve a ride for Batman and headed over to row four. They were running two train very efficiently for standup coaster. This was the first time on a standup roller coaster that I could not put the seat down by myself.

IMG_1975.thumb.JPG.bbf49876f47cfff4003245d33489b1b7.JPG

Once dispatched, we headed up the lift and when we got to the top, I couldn't see any track in front of us. We dropped and headed over to loop. I experienced some serious hang time at the top of of the loop. My feet were not even touching the floor of the train. We went to a couple more elements then we went through the inclined loop. We hit the midcourse break run and we dropped again and went through a corkscrew. I was expecting a very snappy corkscrew, much to my dismay, it was smooth as silk. We went through a mini airtime hill and my feet lifted off the floor of the train for a couple of seconds. I thoroughly enjoyed this ride and I would definitely ride it again.

This ride it was nonstop intense. It was snappy and I absolutely loved it. So far all the rides have been ultra smooth.

It was time to ride Batman!

I've heard people grey out on this coaster because it was so intense. We got to the station and the ride attendant scanned our device and we registered a ride for Green Lantern. We wrote Batman row three and I'm glad we did.

^ I will edit this really quick. Thanks for the tips on the first trip report! I do appreciate it. The party that I was with didn't feel like standing in lines. I'm going by myself next week to ride what I want and when I want

You'll definitely want to make use of Twisted Colossus' single rider line if you go alone next time. It's like gold, especially if you have a good grouper.

Went to the park yesterday for the $10 with a buddy deal at about 4:30, got on Twisted Colossus 2x with single rider, Revolution, X2 and Batman. Tatsu's queue was full (I've never waited that long for it), Superman was out the cave (bleh), Yolo looked to be an hour the entire day (worth the wait?), and Goliath's line extended out halfway through the switchbacks (nope). Lex Luther was closed (BOOOOOOO!). Viper closed (which I don't think it's ever been closed when I visited in my 20 years of going to the park). I decided to go on a Wednesday because it sounded like they weren't that crowded...didn't seem to be the case this time. Lots of cars in the parking lot.

Ride operations overall were sub-par to say the least. Do these employees really think they're that cool getting paid $10 an hour to drink water, check restraints, and push buttons? Who do they think they're kidding? They're really good at making ridiculous asses of themselves, just based off watching their incompetency and idiotic decisions, for the most part. At one point my buddy asked "Is it possible to get kicked out of the park for telling one of these ride operators off? Like, could you actually do that and get away with it?" I said I don't know, but I know how you feel!!

Stacking on Twisted Colossus was happening late in the afternoon, so a race was impossible. At a couple points during our wait, all 3 cars were at a standstill, 2 in the brakes, waiting for the one train in the station to dispatch. Is that a 6 minute dispatch??? Later in the evening they were getting better, but I can't understand for the life of me why 1 guest standing outside the gate on the exit ramp talking to the ride operator for minutes takes priority over 500+ guests waiting to ride. Tell the guest to wait, and make sure the people on the ride are ready to go! Why do the ride operators seem so brain dead? Are they really incapable of multi-tasking while getting cars loaded and dispatched? Never seen anything like it before in my life except at this park. They just don't seem to care about operating the ride properly, at all. Love the ride, but it seems like the operators go out of their way to put a "Six Flags Black Eye" stamp on what is one of the better rides in the park.

Revolution was a 3 train wait (we were behind 4 people), and it took about 20 minutes. I'm not kidding. Probably the worst 3 ride operators I've ever seen in my life. Talking talking talking about anything they could other than checking restraints and getting riders on and off. I thought we'd be on and off in 5 minutes. Last thing they cared about was getting the trains filled and dispatched. F- to the ride operators at Revolution. Look, I know it's probably one of the more boring rides to operate, but that doesn't mean you can't get people on and off in a timely fashion.

Caught the late afternoon X2 lull and the wait was about 20 minutes. Crew was working very well and at some points the train was dispatched and out of the station to lift before the other one even got back to the station. Impressive!!! Can the park PLEASE have this kind of ride operator workmanship distributed throughout the park? It'd really make a trip to the park a lot more enjoyable. We had a great ride on X2, no audio or fire, but wild as all hell, and that last raven didn't rattle around nearly as hard as I'm used to.

Batman was Batman. Seems kinda tame now after Twisted Colossus.

Had a great trip to the park thanks to the rides and the Full Throttle Bar which was actually very pleasant, but to underscore, the only thing that bugged the both of us was how incompetent, ridiculous, and uncaring the ride operators were in regards to getting waiting guests on and off the rides. It really sucks that the only thing in the way of everything being great is the EASIEST thing to do. Basically just do your job and care about paying guests that want to get on roller coasters. I don't understand the horsesh*t attitudes of some of the employees, who really don't care whether paying guests have an enjoyable experience or not. They suck.

It's NOT that hard to be nice to people who are funding your paycheck! Trust me I know, I've been there before!

Part 2 of the July 29th trip report!

IMG_1986.thumb.JPG.a37703c5808fc75f5a6c67cd9de52917.JPG

When we exited Batman, our device had not rung yet to ride Green Lantern. We decided to go to a restaurant and buy the green souvenir cups. I'm glad we do so we can get refills all season long. Finally our device buzzed so we could go ride Green Lantern. We were greeted by a line for flash pass. It was probably 5 to 10 people in front of us. For some odd reason, they were not allowing any people to enter the queue building for a good 20 minutes. Once they finally let us in, we were greeted by a line to actually get on the ride. So far this was the longest line that we have had to wait in all day. I've heard this ride was uncomfortable. It was 100% true in my honest opinion. It hurt my shoulders and my thighs. Is it always this bad?

IMG_1987.thumb.JPG.ad768ca31071a6e55ab7057650865a8b.JPG

IMG_1988.thumb.JPG.2f83ccdafc565acc8b15c93c0fbdcc17.JPG

I was praying that X2 was not like that. After Green Lantern we decided to sit down because that messed up our mood. At this time most lines were getting a little long on our device. We decided to reserve a ride on Revolution thinking that it was very close to where we were. We have to walk up the mountain to get on the ride. On our way to Revolution, we stopped by Gold Rusher. I really like that ride. It was surprisingly long for a kiddie ride and it wasn't as rough as people say. We got to the station of Revolution, nobody scan our device. We went ahead and we canceled it so we can reserve the next ride. The ride itself was OK. It banged my head a couple times but it was still pretty fun. We realized that we were close to Viper. The party that I was with... everybody else was tired so I went to ride Viper alone. Viper was closed. I went back to my party and told them and they said that they had reserved a ride for Tatsu. They still were tired so I want to go ride X2 alone. Much to my surprise, the line was not long like everybody said it was. I called my party and told them and they said they'll be right there. I want to ahead and got in line and by the time my party was there, I was up in the station.

IMG_1991.thumb.JPG.b625cb1d156b3f35fb8d609a9d451ecb.JPG

Luckily for me, the ride attendant let my party up and let me wait for them near the lockers by the station. They rode in row five and I rode it row six. I had to ride with a stranger so I went ahead and made friends with her before we boarded the train. She sat on the inside seat and I sat on the outside seat. They locked and loaded the train very quickly. They were the second fastest crew that I've seen all day right behind Gold Rusher. As we climbed up the lift hill, I was becoming more and more nervous. The lift motor slowed down and I knew that we were at the top. We went over the fake drop and then the seats rotated and we went down the drop face down. The seats were rotating so much that it became uncomfortable. At one point at the bottom of one of the drops I was shaking so vigorously that gave me a headache. When the ride stopped, I din't know how to feel about it. It ended up jumping to second favorite ride! I knew it wasn't usually like that since everybody loved it so much. I'm gonna give it another chance.

IMG_1989.thumb.JPG.d754df1494ffa8553a5839242adccd1f.JPG

And now for my number one.

IMG_1993.thumb.JPG.2a30f2a2402bb8ffbcd5b386fbfb64b8.JPG

Our device buzzed so we could go ride Tatsu. Can somebody explain why nobody was actually waiting on the stairs? It was like they were holding people back and letting them go one party at a time. The line was not moving at all. Do they usually do this? They weren't letting anyone past the queue onto the stairs before the station. Once we were at the top of the stairs, we decided to go to row number three. On row three and row six only three of the four seats were available. We waited for about four cycles.

IMG_1994.thumb.JPG.17ca70fec3f5b5793aa51adf15e45fb4.JPG

I LOVED THIS RIDE. IT WASN'T INTENSE AND I FELT IN CONTROL. IT WAS LIKE TRUE FLIGHT! THE PRETZEL LOOP WASN'T AS INTENSE AS I WAS EXPECTING BUT IT WAS FUN AS HE**.

I had a beautiful day at a beautiful park! While leaving I was greeted by a beautiful ride with a beautiful sunset! I'm planning to go next week. What day should I go to avoid the long lines? And how do I have a pain free ride on Green Latern?

Nice trip report. Although I wouldn't have been excited as you about going to Magic Mountain. I hate that place. I hate how they tear down all the family flat rides and build immense coasters on top of them. I hate how they took out a historic coaster that they abused for years with taking out the camel backs and putting in a block break, added Morgan trains, never repainted it, never fixed or ran the second track, not even for it's last few years. Until they start adding family rides, I will hate that place.
