The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

What is the best place to sit for Tatsu? Also, what would be tips for riding Goliath? (I’m especially nervous about the helix part of the ride.) Thanks.
Front row is always the best for Tatsu as the forces are pretty much the same for the whole train, so the view is all that matters, and it's a pretty spectacular view in the front.

There is a trick to the Goliath helix. When I rode it the first time or two my vision greyed out due to the blood rushing out of my head and I didn't find it too fun. I figured out though that if you tilt your head so that it remains perpendicular to the ground (In this case you would tilt your head towards your left shoulder) it keeps the blood from rushing out of your head and keep you from greying out if you would have otherwise (not all people do anyway).

agree that front row is good for visuals. never really felt much difference in forces anywhere else, so if i don't wait for the front, i just go to the shortest line.

never thought goliath is all that intense in the helix anymore. what is intense is the mid course brake. lol

Alright, so Twisted Colossus has basically pushed me over the edge to go back to the park for the first time since ~2007 I believe, X was still pink and yellow. I'll be hitting the Haunt the following night over at KBF as well and I need me some Intamin love with Xcelerator! I have a couple of questions, as I haven't been able to reach customer service all day by phone after several attempts (already screwing up, SFMM). I intend to go to the park Friday, October 2nd as that's the only day in my schedule I can go;

-Is there some special event going on that day, as the park is open until 1AM? It seems suspicious but I couldn't find any events listed.

-My strategy is to get there an hour before gates open and absolutely book it full sprint to Colossus first, and then do a general counter clockwise circle as I used to do in years past. Aiming to hit X2's 3:30-5 dead time if that still happens. Is this still the optimal way to do things?

-Along with that my absolute priorities are the new rides I haven't ridden yet which are (in order) TC, Lex Luthor, Yolo, Superman, and Apocalypse if I can get a front seat without much wait, and right behind those are Goliath, Tatsu, Batman, Scream, maybe Riddler and Viper should be like a walk on so I guess that too.

Thanks for the help in advance, I'm excited to see what these RMC's are all about and if it's back up the new Superman/LL:DOD combo. I've wondered for years if they would ever attempt a drop ride on Superman and is probably one of a few rides in the world that actually intimidates me a bit!

Yeah, pretty much all B&Ms are the best in the front seat. Hypers, inverts, stand-ups, flyers, floorless... though I haven't ridden a B&M giga YET! (Fury got my eye on you )

Fury is best in the front to me. The ride has been a little shaky lately so I can't bear the back. Although it's fun and powerful, no other row can match row one's powerful wind in your face. It's just incredible.

In in line right now. Coaster broke down for about 30 minutes. In that time, a family of four cut to the loading gates. Nothing happened at first and I was super pissed. Eventually before the ride reopened; a bunch of security came to escort them out. They're still in the station so I'm not sure what's going on. They're arguing, while the two rows that the family is in are not being loaded.

Moral of the story; don't be a dick and wait in line like everyone else.

They were escorted out of the line after all. I was BEYOND thrilled. Excellent job SFMM! Now if only we could get that down on all coasters.

We got into the park around 7:30. Lex Luther is down, superman only running its one regular side, X2 (though it was running when we drove up) had its gates closed when we tried walking by around 9:15. We got into like for Tatsu who also was apparently experiencing a "delay" but reopened within 5 minutes of us getting in line.

Fright Fest begins the last weekend in September so that is why they are open to 1am. Typically the first Friday in october October is a slow day and I am planning on going.

yeah, usually those Friday, days are pretty dang dead. like, don't need to have any kind of ride plan to get a lot of rides in.

A little disappointed this morning. Lex is closed (though that was already known) however TC is experiencing an extended delay, by 11 Scream was still testing, Goliath was down as well. We luckily got the first train of the day on FT and we finally found another operational ride (Superman) albeit running only one side.

I'm probably going to get lambasted for this, but maybe the park should actually have an off season. Like close down completely from Nov to Mar and rehab the coasters, re-paint/re-pave pathways benches, bathrooms etc. The park is just exhausted from overuse, the ride breakdowns (with the exception of TC, that's a whole different apple) are a telltale sign.

*waits for the pending verbal abuse*

I actually think that SFMM could benefit from having an off season. Mainly for things like what you pointed out. Just so the park could get some nice TLC. However, we know Six Flags will never do that...

An off season could really help.

Even if they closed Jan-March it would help. Especially in terms of train maintenance.

Disney is open 365 days per year yet excels in ride maintenance and their parks are spotless because they do not accept anything less than excellence. Six Flags is closed about 140 days per year. They do not need more days off. They need better management and more staff.

Disney also budgets more for these things. If you nickel and dime everything you get.... Six Flags.
