JeromyL Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I think they are talking about the tallest loop itself....
thrillseeker4552 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 ^They do, but they also advertise Full Throttle as the tallest and fastest looping coaster in the world, and it was confirmed by the Guiness Book of World Records. That record always seemed false to me, especially after all of the coasters the posters above me mentioned. Back on topic, I REALLY hope I can ride this in 2015! We're visiting family up in Utah this summer, and the extra 2 hour drive would be totally worth it for Cannibal!
DBru Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 But it is the tallest and fastest looping coaster...maybe not the tallest and fastest inverting coaster, but the tallest and fastest coaster in which riders traverse a loop.
MrSum1_55 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 ^^YOLO has the tallest vertical loop in the world, Gatekeeper has the tallest inversion in the world, and Eejanaika is the tallest coaster to have an inversion. So, calling something the 'world's tallest looping coaster' can actually refer to three different coasters (at least to the GP who call all inversions 'loops')
ajfelice Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Parks love to pick out and exploit these seemingly complex records for the sake of marketing and PR. In many cases, parks want a landmark expansion to break some record of some form (even if it just a "regional" record). In some other cases, these records are a stretch or not even true but it's the nature of the market. Everyone wants to find a way to call their product the absolute best. I see parks making these record claims (I do it myself when operating some rides) and I chuckle at their efforts. But the day I get upset about a park stretching the truth or picking and choosing statistics to claim records, is the day I give up the hobby.
MrSum1_55 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 ^^^When you are anywhere in the west outside of California, pretty much everything is a regional record.
coasterbill Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 In many cases, parks want a landmark expansion to break some record of some form (even if it just a "regional" record). Don't sell this ride short... while many of it's records will just be regional records I expect it to hold the WORLD record for the ugliest coaster ever built for years to come. EDIT: It can probably claim to have the tallest inversion for awhile too until the Poler Coaster opens.
larrygator Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 The superlatives have and will always be part of marketing. It will always be there for amusement parks. I still remember billboards in Florida in the days of the Florida Hurricane promoting it as the fastest wooden roller coaster in the Southeast US.
RCF Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Yet Lagoon has yet to play any records, besides tallest coaster in the park. The biggest marketing they have (or had) is that it will "eat" other coasters. Even though it's the tallest beyond-vertical drop in world and steepest drop in the U.S.
jray21 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 This ride is looking more and more impressive every day. I'm glad it's relatively close so that I'll be able to ride it!
jedimaster1227 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 (edited) This ride is seriously becoming more unique by the day! Not sure when I'd ever get out to Lagoon to try it out myself, but this is definitely giving me more motivation to try... Edited January 3, 2015 by jedimaster1227

rcjp Posted January 6, 2015 Posted January 6, 2015 ^Although, if you think of it, maybe eejanaika's raven turn is taller and riders do go upside down there, so I'm not entirely sure.
thrillseeker4552 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 Here's a really cool comparison to Wicked! Source Cool picture! I really like Cannibal's layout. It's just so...big!
tatsu_dude Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 That double down looking hill out of the dive loop...
gerstlaueringvar Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I like Cannibal's layout except for the heartline roll, there's gotta be some serious lateral G force!
RCF Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 I like Cannibal's layout except for the heartline roll, there's gotta be some serious lateral G force! You do realize that would be after the MCBR, so that would pace it much better?

You do realize that would be after the MCBR, so that would pace it much better? That 90 degrees-ish banked section isn't parabola like RMC's Wave Turns, you are hanged sideways. It's after the MCBR so the sideways hang time is even longer.

It would go through it slowly to not cause extremely intense lateral g-force, but be a funky element that is weird to ride.

Cannibal is using four across seating trains so the outside seats will have even higher lateral G. Sorry to make it sound like lateral G is the worst thing in this planet, I believe Lagoon designed this ride very carefully and it will be a very enjoyable ride. I'm just not a fan of high lateral G so I might have exaggerated a bit.
KingRCT3 Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 It's actually a bit like Kanonen's heartline roll entrance: Those laterals are unnoticeable once onboard, because they are "natural". As for Cannibal, they'll be higher for sure due to the rotational forces, but it should be fine I guess. Note that the NoLimits recreation is a little bit exaggerated on here, it should be more straight.
