Lagoon Discussion Thread

Is the helix theming pointing outside of the park? It doesn't seem visible from anywhere off-ride, and it seemed pretty extensive in the concept art.

I believe somewhere it stated there will be a viewing area but I'm not 100% sure.

I was imagining the queue will wrapping back there too. We will see, but I'm sure the park will want to show off everything!

It would only have the overflow parking as a viewing spot. The temples will however have a small viewing area.

So, I think to myself, what is the coaster I'm most looking forward to? At first it was clearly TC. Then I thought no way its Wicked Cyclone. Then I'm like damn look how awesome Fury 325 looks! But I most interested in Cannibal!!! Maybe it's the fact that I have no idea what it will be like, as I have an idea of all the other rides. Either way, what a great year for Roller Coasters:) There are still plenty other attractions that look sweet!

Honestly, I think that this attraction may be the biggest 'game changer' attraction in the US of 2015.

While the pure scope of the addition may not compare to that of a new giga coaster or have the same level of excitement as the new RMC's, what sets this one apart is the market it is located in. We see parks with the markets of places like LA, Dallas, Orlando, NYC, Philly, Charlotte, etc... make large announcements on a somewhat frequent basis. The market of Salt Lake City simply does not hold a candle to any of these, yet a coaster is being added there that beats out most of the additions in the country in terms of scope. There are many people, even moderate enthusiasts, who have probably never heard of this park. Now, it can truly be on the map.

There is only one thing that perplexes me a bit about this addition:

Phoenix: 3 million+ metro area: Has only a ghetto park with two coasters

Denver: 3 million+ metro area: Only park has not received a new adult coaster in over a decade

Seattle: 3 million+ metro area: Has a park with one decent coaster and nothing else significant

Portland: 2.5 million metro area: Largest coaster is a Pinfari looper

Las Vegas: 1.5 million metro area+ huge tourist market: No real, full-sized parks

But then you have:

Salt Lake City: 1.2 million metro area: Is getting a record-breaking coaster, after the same park added their current largest coaster five years prior

Spokane/North Idaho: 700,000 metro area: Can keep a park open with a working GIB

What is up with the west sans California?

Basically, it was what parks built up and what ones didn't, and what one (Elitch Gardens) fell into a hard situation.

^^To be completely fair, Denver has two parks, one of which has no need for a big new coaster and the other of which has had some terrible luck in recent times. Also, the other four cities on the list are less than ideal locations for a park for one reason or another. Anyway, the point still stands, and I agree that Cannibal is absolutely the game changer of 2015 (along with Justice League at a couple Six Flags parks).

One other thing I think some people don't realize about Lagoon is that even though it's an independent park it is not a small park. In terms of area and attraction count, the park is comparable to Knott's Berry Farm, they just don't have as many big thrill rides. The park benefits from management that cares about the park and always invests in what the park really needs, not just what will draw the biggest crowd. It also helps that Lagoon has virtually no competition (the closest actual park is 5 hours away and the closest noteworthy parks are in Denver). I almost think it could end up being the next Holiday World in the enthusiast community...an unknown independent park that gained nationwide attention by doing something unheard of. I doubt very many enthusiasts had heard of Lagoon before Wicked opened in 2007, just like few knew of Holiday World before the Raven. Assuming Cannibal doesn't disappoint, I've got a feeling Lagoon is going to jump near the top of most enthusiasts' park travel lists.

The more I see of that tower, the more I think there is going to be some kind of drop mechanism inside. The 2 maintainance doors at the top are off center. Looking straight at it, the very large service door on the right could very well be an elevator lift with the drop mechanism, and the other side where the track exits the tower could be a vertical chain lift. I'm thinking that may be the surprise element that has been rumored. Time will tell. All I know is that on one of my trips between Nashville and LA this Summer, I am going to have to route my plane through Saltalakeci'teh, and visit this park. I may wait till late September, early October as I've heard their Halloween event is quite good.

Population is only one part of the equation. Each parks business demographics are completely different, despite the population of their area.

It is already been proven (during construction of the tower) that it will only be a dual elevator lift system.
