The studios park in Florida always felt like it was kind of missing something to me, maybe the Potter section has filled that but taking the best attractions from Studios and sticking them into an Islands of Adventure style park should be pretty nice. piedude81 Posted October 17, 2014 Share Posted October 17, 2014 It's probably worth noting that it's just concept art and that there's a solid chance half of those attractions will come in totally different forms, like Singapore's rapids ride instead of Orlando's boat ride or Battlestar: Galactica instead of Hulk. This. Most of, or at least some of these rides in the concept art are likely to be placeholders until the official rides are announced. I somehow doubt that the Hulk coaster will make it into the final park, but I think it's a safe bet that we'll see Harry Potter come to Beijing. As far as the JP ride goes, I think it might be a possibility given that the new Jurassic World film comes out next summer. I've never really felt that way about Tokyo Disneyland, all the different Disney parks seem to share so much as well as having a mix of their own unique stuff that i've never really felt that any one of them could be labelled "greatest hits." I think the only park i've ever really walked into and thought that it had a real combination of being a "greatest hits" park combining some olden ones you can't find anymore with some present rides and some unique ones of their own was Universal Japan. I've never really felt that way about Tokyo Disneyland, all the different Disney parks seem to share so much as well as having a mix of their own unique stuff that i've never really felt that any one of them could be labelled "greatest hits." I think the only park i've ever really walked into and thought that it had a real combination of being a "greatest hits" park combining some olden ones you can't find anymore with some present rides and some unique ones of their own was Universal Japan. That's the best way to describe Universal Japan, which is a park that I like quite a bit. At least they still have Jaws and two unique coasters (Hollywood Dream and Space Fantasy). I think it's a smart plan. Feature a number of "classic" attractions for folks who may never get the chance to visit the original parks, then throw in some attractions unique to the new park. I don't understand why they didn't choose Canton area. Population is much bigger than Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan area, weather is warm so rides can operate year-round, air is very clean and the locals are much more likely to spend a lot of money in park visitings. Not to mention the much better public transportation systems, higher development in service business, much much much better local food etc. I think wherever Universal Studios goes, the local parks won't be good enough to compete with them. Disneyland and Universal Studios have different visitor groups so they really aren't going to influence each other's business too much. They can even form a large group with Chimelong parks, OCT parks and sell group tickets to improve their attendance. Orlando parks do this and seems like it's a successful move. I think Canton area could be the next Florida TBH. Not to mention Chimelong already started their third major resort in Qinyuan which is also in Canton area. Sure, Beijing lacks parks and Happy Valley Beijing is crap. But seems like Universal Studios only found a Beijing local group that was willing to cooperate with them so they kinda have to put their park in Beijing. Japan and Singapore are not big enough for this case. The park visitors are mostly locals with Ocean Park and HK Disneyland being the two exceptions. Its a globally-recognized brand. The intent is to draw tourists, a park on this scale cannot survive on local populations alone. HK, Guangzhou, Macau and Shenzhen are very international cities. Maybe there isn't a Great Wall or Forbidden City and Universal Studios Guangzhou sounds not as "world wide" as Universal Studios Beijing, the tourism market is more mature IMO. As mentioned before the park will be built in Tongzhou to the East of Beijing and won't open until 2019 but looking forwards to following construction. In a report from the Business-Standard.com, the new Universal Studios theme park will cost an estimated $7.98 billion (50 billion yuan) and will be built in the east suburban district of Tongzhou in the capital city of Beijing. The facility is expected to encompass an astonishing 2.02 million square meters. The Universal Studios construction project in Beijing will be the sixth park in the company’s portfolio and the third in Asia, and this will be the largest amusement park Universal has ever built. To construct a theme park of this magnitude, the project will have to be split into stages. The first stage involves building the Universal CityWalk retail-entertainment complex and the Universal-themed resort hotel. In the second phase, the company will build another theme park, a water park and five additional resort hotels. According to the Business Standard, the Tongzhou district’s culture and tourism administration bureau is reporting that the park will feature traditional and modern Chinese culture elements to help draw in national and international visitors. In order to help more guests reach the new park, Chinese Subway Line 7 will be extended and put into operation before the facility ever opens its doors to the public. The project was originally agreed upon by the National Development and Reform Commission in September 2014, but Universal Studios and Chinese officials formally put pen to paper on Sunday afternoon. They show the trains on track (complete with vest restraints) for the Transformers coaster which is a modified clone of Incredible Hulk. They also show ride vehicles for the Jurassic Park dark ride. Originally this was going to be a new ride system but they have opted to use the same tech (and layout) as Spiderman. There are loads of pictures on Themeparkx which I am unable to post here, but it shows how much progress has been made, including on the Jurassic Park powered Mack inverted coaster which I am looking forward to seeing - such a great ride system with so many possibilities.
