Jon Sabo
Screamscape also confirms that the ride will not open until 07 due to technical issues. Here is a link (also including some INCREDIBLE pictures). http://www.screamscape.com/html/efteling.htm I will dare to say it now and perhaps spark a debate (lol), but I honestly think the theming on this ride is better than a Disney or Busch ride-bar none! I worked for BEC parks for many years and love the theming at BGE, but this ride at Efteling is absolutely a visual orgasm...hehehe I hope they work out the issues (and not tame down the ride). Great links-video and pics to those who posted them!!! *One thing that could point out is what kind of weather is it there now (during testing). If it is cold there (still) that will surely have an effect on the train performance. I remember working on DF @ BGE we certainly had our issues during testing and even installed "heaters" along selected sections of the track to heat up the wheels/oil lubricators. Perhaps the park may do the same thing or just work on the technical issues they have and test again when its warmer. Another idea they could try is just add pure gear-oil (lite-grade) and that may make a difference. Heavier gear oil or even transmission fluid could be used in the warmer-weather events. The problem is in the building it self, when the ride hooks to the lifthill, the force going with that is to high, not safe.
zingo
The prblem is the hooking onto the lift. right in front of teh lift is a litte drop, the train reaches 10M/S (36 Km/ph). The train has to hook on the lift at 3M/S (10,8 km/ph). At the moment the trains hooks one the riders would get quitte a shock. According to 'Olaf Vughs'(one of the most important person in The Efteling) that would be to unconfortable for the rides. Its quitte a shame that it won't open this year, I planned trip to The Efteling in september, but now i'll go to phantasia land instead. The ride relies on lasers/projections mostly, a never seen before thing in any ride on earth!
rollermonkey
Is the building that looks like a barn on top of one of the hills actually a second show building? When I was there a couple weeks back, there was a boat in there and workers were in and out of it all day.
verticalzero
Shame the ride may not open till 2007, but it is best to wait till most of the problems have been fixed. I can't wait to see the ride in action and watch all the very detailed themeing pass

It's tough to say that any "real looking" buildings built for a particular ride are any "better" than what is built for the Tower of Terror rides or EE for that matter. I agree, that ride does look incredible though. Let's hope the problems are worked out and we start to see more of this type of stuff stateside in the coming years. VsEuro
There is news about the problems. Olaf Vugts (park manager of the efteling) confirmed in an interview the opening date of 1 april 2007. He also confirmed that Intamin has been called upon to fix the problems with the ride. Let's hope they deliver a safe and fun solution for this water coaster and its problems. Cerberus
I still think they should have gone to Mack for proven technology. Or heck, even Intamin- who they've gone to for a rescue -provide their very own tried and tested type of water coaster! Sorry, but if you're putting THAT much effort and THAT much money into producing a stunning attraction, you shouldn't cheap out and take risks with the key hardware I like the part in someone's post above where they said, "I was going to go this year but went to Phantasialand instead". That's a perfect example of how most people are going to react to this fudge up and exactly why the park are going to loose out big time on what should have otherwise been their big draw. One of the problems was the looks of the Mack-track, or the Intamin-track, it would not look nice with the building. The track must not been seen too, wile riding DVH. So that 'tried and tested-version' would have problems, too! Never before a boat 'floated' like this, on a coaster!
zingo
@above 2, Eftling is know for making new ride systems. Examples, Villa Volta was the very first Madhouse ever(vekoma rulez:P), and Droomvlucht was a brand new stystem too. This time they tried it again and just like at droomvlucht they failed to open it the correct year. Oke, I got some very good news, 'The Efteling' will open 'De Vliegende Hollander'on the 1st of april 2007. Intamin is working on it and they expect to start testeing next year. If nothing goes wrong it will be open at the 1st of april. BTW. I got some cool pics you guys should realy see: THAT is what I call a boat! Photo's by Arie Kanarie. rosscoe
From those pictures a couple of posts back, all i can say is wow. That is a beautiful looking park and also looks to be one hell of a ride ( once they get the kinks ironed out )
viking86
The ride looks stunning! Hopefully they get everything sorted out because it looks like a very fun ride. It may be a family ride, but all the theming and special effects put into this ride really makes me wanna ride it!
MARK
I wonder if they'll sue Kumbak??? Was it Kumbak who stuffed up?
Hjalmar
as far as i know Kumbak designed the ride, and i thought Vekoma has said to Kumbak that the ride would not work. Technical Service of Walibi world, Walibi Belgium, even disney checked it out. at last they asked intamin to check it out. but that's what's been told too me so they can sue Kumbak, but i don't know if they are going to do that. at last the ride is going to be tested in januari and first of april it is going to be opened. just too bad it had to wait more then a year. Shavethewhales
^Ah man, it would totally suck if they did. I mean, this is KumbaK's first ever coaster right? It looks totally sweet, and I would love to see what they can come up with next. I don't want to see another coaster company go down, especially not before they can even get started. Guy T. Koepp
This ride looks beautiful. I know it's a stupid question, but where is Eifeling located?
Shockwave
It's near a town called Kaatsheuvel, which is about 15 mins north of Tilburg, in the South of the Netherlands. It's a really beautiful park, not many big thrills, but they've got some amazing (IMO) dark rides.
Guy T. Koepp
I have got to get to northern Europe! So many wonderful parks! So little time.
Hjalmar
That's crazy... The once how life in Europe want to go to America and the one in america want too go to Europe. and yes it's kumbak first coaster.
verticalzero
The Watercoaster looks amazing, out of this world Theming everywhere in the park. I have to go back next year. Shame the local people near the park always reject new rides, same problem as Alton Towers. Your never see a "Hyper" or "Floorless" coaster. This park is very beautiful, it seems like you have been transported to another world, it has a magical feeling to it. All the rides are good apart from the horrible "Woodie", it needs to be re-built with .
dr.gumbo
I hope they do get this working by 07 cause I might have the slight chance of going that year as I may be going on holiday there I also hope they dont sue Kumbak, they just started and It would be unfair to not give it a second chance ,they look like they can make really good rides with no (and they make fantastic looking trains)
sander-kay
Good news! They're test-running again since friday! And yesterday i'v seen 4 tests again and made some pictures for you all! enjoy!
stormrider
That's excellent news for anybody who were excited to ride this. I would (if I were the park) be annoyed I had to delay an attraction and contract another company to help "fix" it. At least those boats are looking good
