Premier Rides has sent us a press release regarding their exciting new coaster project for the Great Mall of China!

Premier Rides has been selected to design and manufacture a signature high-thrill roller coaster for what will be the largest mixed-use development project in the world, the Great Mall of China. The Premier attraction, commissioned by the Berjaya Great Mall of China Co. Ltd., will be the tallest indoor roller coaster in the world. The ride will be designed and built in the United States and exported to China.

The yet-to-be-named super launch coaster integrates many exciting and unique elements, including Premier’s advanced magnetic drive technologies. The dramatic layout will be enclosed in one of the largest free-span buildings in Asia. For competitive reasons, additional ride specifications will be released by the Berjaya Great Mall of China Co. Ltd. later in 2012.

Located only 25km from Beijing International Airport in Yanjiao City, Heibei Province, People’s Republic of China, the 76-acre project will consist of various modern recreational facilities that integrate amusement and leisure into the commercial landscape. Retail shops, entertainment venues, an indoor theme park, and a water park will make the 15 million square foot Great Mall of China a landmark in the region. The project is slated to open in 2013.

“We’re excited to bring this caliber of ride to the Great Mall of China,” said Berjaya Great Mall of China’s Kevin Tan. “We believe that Premier Rides’ new attraction will satisfy even the most fearless thrill-seekers, and then some. As a signature attraction of the Great Mall of China, it will certainly set the bar high not only for this project but for the whole Asia region.”

Jim Seay, president of Premier Rides, commented, “The theme park market in China is an exciting one and all of us at Premier are motivated to not only be part of that market, but to also set the industry standard by bringing in a world-class attraction for the Berjaya Great Mall of China group. The minds behind the Great Mall of China certainly wanted to make a statement with their thrilling new project and we are honored to be part of their formula for success.”

Seay recently accompanied Governor Martin O’Malley on a trade mission to China, executed by the State of Maryland’s Department of Business and Economic Development. Meetings during the trade mission facilitated Premier Rides in securing the agreement with Berjaya Great Mall of China Co. Ltd. “Maryland’s determined efforts to increase exports to places like China are an important element of Premier’s success,” said Seay. “Premier Rides is very appreciative of the State’s resourceful programs in this area.”

Yay for more Premier launch coasters! And yay for more mall coasters, too...they really appeal to me for some reason. Looking forward to hearing just how crazy this will (hopefully) be.

That mall we went to as part of the TPR China trip (with the giant roller skater) is like 80% vacant, with the only tenants doing good Pizza Hut/McDonalds/the amusement park. Hope this mall can do well (or at least have the coaster survive long enough for me to get the credit) since it is closer to where the money is in China.

I'm a fan of Premier launched coasters (especially the Mr. Freeze rides), so I'm glad to see a new one being planned.

^ I agree but haven't been on the Mr. Freeze coasters yet. I've been on Speed, Batman/Robin the Chiller,FOF(KD) and Joker Jinx. For some reason Batman and Robin is still my favorite launch coaster but that could be because it was my first launched.

Hopefully this one has lapbars only when it's built, can't wait to see what it looks like.

So Premier has the Superman coaster and Goliath train projects in the states (and a new Harry Potter coaster?), this indoor coaster and another mystery international project? Good times! The world could use some more Premier coasters.

^Agreed. I think the only ones I didn't especially enjoy were Back Lot Stunt Coaster and Runaway Mountain (which is clearly very different from what they usually build). But both are perfectly enjoyable for what they are. I rank Flight of Fear, the Mr. Freezes, Powder Keg, and Poltergeist very highly, and I'm a fan of Sky Rocket as well.

I'm all for more Premier coasters, anywhere. Sky Rocket was one of the biggest surprises of last year.

But, yeah, "The Great Mall of China?" Mao must be spinning like a madman in his grave.

Is Mindbender the tallest at the moment? If not, what is? If so, this thing has to be at least 146' tall.

Good question, anyone know for sure what the tallest indoor coaster is?

Have you ever heard of "The Great Firewall of China" - the term for China's web censorship? Wasn't there another really big mall that failed? Probably because they didn't have the world's tallest indoor coaster.

^^According to this, Canyon Blaster at Circus Circus is the current indoor champ:

A Baltimore company says it’s building the world’s tallest indoor roller coaster for a shopping mall in China.

Maryland’s Department of Business and Economic Development touted the project Thursday as one of the state’s exporting achievements.

Premier Rides Inc. says the coaster is for the Great Mall of China, opening next year near Beijing.

Premier isn’t releasing the coaster’s specifications for competitive reasons. The 90-foot Canyon Blaster at Circus Circus in Las Vegas is currently billed as the tallest indoor roller coaster.

Premier Rides moved its headquarters from Millersville to Baltimore in 2010. Its other projects include two “Revenge of the Mummy” indoor roller coasters at the Universal Studios theme parks in Florida and California, and a Yamaha Racing Coaster at the Trans Studio indoor theme park in Bandung, Indonesia.

That was the same layout proposed as one of the coasters for whatever Orlando Thrill Park was supposed to be.

^ I think I heard about that park. Was that the one that was basically just going to take the best ride from every major theme park and put in their new park with absolutely nothing else?
