Totally not digging the holding brake. The best part of Rock Bottom Plunge is getting flung over the hill. Not a big enough drop for the brake to really add any effect if you ask me.

IMO, it's not the effect, it's for safety reasons. The trains on Dare Devil Dive and Huracan (Belantis) are a whole row longer than the standard Eurofighter trains like on Rock Bottom Plunge. The drop would produce unbearable negative forces for those riding in the back if it wasn't fitted with a holding brake.

But, I've never seen a POV of Huracan, so I don't know if it uses the same system. I'm only going with what I've learned about forces in high school and college physics.

It's kind of like how Steel Hawg and Mumbo Jumbo have a trim brake on the top thirds of their drops.

Not true. Thats merely 2-3 foot more of car. Thats not enough to take g forces from bearable to unbearable. Also Huracan doesn't stop. in my opinion the forces are counteracted by the larger diameter at the crest vs the small diameter on traditional eurofighters.

Just curious as to what use to be in Dare Devil Dive's spot? After seeing the video, I'm trying to figure out where it would be in the park, only been there once. Is it before you enter Gotham City?

Yes, it's right before you enter the Gotham City area. After you pass this you'd be going under a bridge into it.

Dare Devil's replacing the remains of the park's old freefall ride and the Shake, Rattle, and Roll ride, along with some buildings.

Doesn't the holding break allow for the coaster to not have to come to a complete stop at the MCBR? Or it's possible that the chain is going to be substantially faster than that of most Eurofighters, so they wanted to add that to slow it down.

Or it's a gimmick!

But this project fails because Prince Desmond isn't involved!

Knowing the Gp they'll say something like, "I heard that a kid fell out of the seat because they only have a lap thing!" or "it can't go upside down, there is nothing to protect you!"

Exactly, and that is what could cause Six Flags Over Georgia to have the trains fitted with OTSRs at a later date. The new ride has to draw in crowds to be a worthwhile investment, and if the general public thinks it's unsafe, they're not going to ride it.

^There are numerous rides with only lapbars that go upsidedown, I highly doubt Six Flags will change anything.

Never said they would...

Enough of this. I think Dare Devil Dive will be a kick-butt coaster, and that the United States needs more Eurofighters.

Keep in mind that this will be a Euro-fighter with a new restraint system. It makes perfect sense to have a holding brake as opposed to flinging guests over the drop.

You arent flung over the top any more than than you are on a bunny hop on a wild mouse. Thats just my take as I have ridden an eurofighter.

You two realize you're talking about the same park that has had drive-by shootings, Noah's Ark-type flooding, and a decapitation all within the last five years or so, right? If the GP thinks it's unsafe, the line will only grow.

I knew about the decapitation, but not the other stuff!

^ha, well we were referring to his post about the lapbars (on the previous page).

I personally am excited to experience a beyond-vertical drop and inversions that are not standard loops with just a lapbar. Should be intense and the holding brake may be terrifying with no shoulder harness to lean against. 9-10 stories is still quite a drop.

And you do realize there is a coaster at the park currently with only lapbars that has inversions...
And it's one of the most popular, and best, coasters they have! Perceived "danger" only drives people to it. People want to feel like they're living on the edge and taking a risk, when they know they're really perfectly safe.

You hit the nail on the head

*I* For one, welcome this new "Golden age" of lapbar-only inverting coasters, it'll be nice to see a Eurofighter with them - As done right, they'll be even more awesome

Im pretty excited about this coaster even if the new trains are supposedly rough as hell. SFOG is one of my favorite Six Flags parks and this gives me a good excuse to go back! Hoping to make a trip in early spring sometime.

In an attempt to rectify my mistake somewhat, I figured out the reason why it's safe is because the lap bars are over-head as opposed to U- or T-bars. If the over-head lap bars come loose a little bit, riders are still safe through inversions because the bar's position gets horizontally closer to their lap as it gets vertically higher. Same reasoning behind Blue Fire too.

I'm an engineer - I'm smart and stupid at the same time!

According to the ride animation, the lap bars are the normal "t-bars" that come up through your legs... There are a lot of hypers that produce a lot more force pushing against a lap bar than any inversion would.
