palmerleeberry
When I read that the Wheelie was headed to Fun Spot Action Park, all I could say was: WAH-HOO!!! This ride that once ran in Six Flags Over Georgia looked to good to be scrapped when I was at the park last year, and now it will thrill a new set of riders at its brand new home. When they get all their rides up and running, I'm sure the park will get to see a lot of these coming towards them: $ $ $ $ $ "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride!!!" BeemerBoy
"White Lightning" still sounds like the nickname you'd give the only fast white kid on the high school track team.
AndrewRnR
Fun Spot announced today that they are expanding (on top of their current expansion!). They bought another 10-acres of land - no plans yet for its use. Here is the Facebook post: Drum role please for the big announcement!! It is always difficult keeping a HUGE secret and we have been holding this one in for over a month now!! At our Employee Christmas party last December John Jr. announced to the staff that Fun Spot America may purchase even more land in the future. Well that future was not too far off as Fun Spot America is the proud new owners on another additional 10-Acres!!! This will bring Fun Spot America up to a grand total of a 25-Acre park once completed!!! Absolutely no plans have been made for this additional property yet, but when opportunity falls in your lap you must take it!!
COASTER FREAK 11
Thats great! I wonder where the plot is. I was thinking on the far side of the road at the top?
SharkTums
^When we met with them I think they actually mentioned a plot where a failing strip mall was, but that empty plot would seem to make more sense.

Oh, the strip mall? Well isn't the mall right next to them no the right? Though, that seems bigger then 10 acres.
SoCalCoasters
I assume their current expansion will probably result in more parking spaces? As of now they appear to have quite a tiny lot!
COASTER FREAK 11
With the expansion they are working on, a new parking lot was included on the other side of the property.
AndrewRnR
In the photo its the spot on the top (opposite side of road where White Lightening's lift will be) - I drove by on my way home and it is being used as a laydown area for the construction. Myself
Here's the photo if anyone wanted to see it. The park specifically mentions that the land seen across the road from the site was what they purchased.

DougMJr
Not very familiar with fun spot. Do they have a satellite parking lot somewhere? Because in that aerial shot it doesn't look like they have much parking.

palmerleeberry
I said this before in an earlier post and I'll say it one more time, this time in gold: "This is how amusement parks are born!!!" Looking at the possible site where Fun Spot bought those ten extra acres, if it's that plot of land that lies to the north, then Fun Spot will have to add either a crosswalk or a crossing bridge to connect those two plots. And then afterwards, they might put in something or somethings that'll be a real crowd grabber (I've just had a crazy thought: how about Fun Spot buys the old Hurricane Coaster that has been lying dormant in Fort Lauderdale and brings it back to their park - I'll bet that'll bring tons of riders to their park - heck why stop there? How about the old Hypersonic XLC that used to run at Kings Dominion unless it has been turned into scrap metal? ). Now that I've calmed myself down, I'm sure that whatever Fun Spot decides what to do with that extra plot of land, it'll be yet another reason why you should visit their park. "I'm not perfect; I just love to ride!!!"
Patrick210
Aerials from Jan. 16th and a pano from the 22nd. The parking lot now has one lift of asphalt and the entry building roof is on. The Chance/Vekoma steel coaster started arriving today and assembly of the SkyCoaster is well underway. The SkyCoaster will be painted white and then the 7 sections will be erected in one day using 3 cranes. Chittlins
Now if only the box stores on the other side of the two small lakes would fail and the property sold to Funspot for more expansion

Chittlins
I wonder if the additional land purchased will solely be for water park aspect? This seems like the size of park that the smaller footprint coasters would excel at, like a Stingray or El Toro
Skycoastin Steve
Drove by Fun Spot and took more pics today, steel has also arrived for the support structure of White Lightning and a LOT more work has been done since my last update two weeks ago. Pics will probably be up in the next day or so.

Skycoastin Steve
As promised, here are the latest pics of progress on the expansion. They've gotten quite a bit done since the last update, but I'm still pretty skeptical about a June opening. These were taken on Saturday, so it's entirely possible that more progress has been made. Either way, enjoy! Wood you look at that! Hopefully no one steels these supports. Ok, puns are over. Here's what they've done so far on the new entrance. As you can see, they've also paved the new parking lot. Junior Vekoma Hang-n-Bang supports! Lots of steel starting to show up for White Lightning's support structure. Some of it even already seems to be pre-built. I predict that many more of these will show up. These guys are working on the concrete for Freedom Fighter. These little connectors have started showing up on the footers for White Lightning. See? Progress, thy name is White Lightning! More footers going up for Freedom Fighter. It's hard to tell, but there's a sizable hole dug around the entire area for the ride. I guess the footers need to go pretty deep. You can sorta tell how deep it is here. As of two weeks ago, none of these footers were here or even close to being poured. Cutting it pretty close with this building here. Two weeks ago, this building was a concrete pad. This was just a grass hill the last update, they've now started pouring the foundation for the coaster's supports to come down the hill. And you can still see the stakes where the supports will be for the turnaround. Mmmmmmm........steak. And it's impossible to tell just how MASSIVE these pieces of the Skycoaster are. I'm fairly certain I could stand inside them with room to spare, and I'm 6'5". It will regain its claim as the largest lattice arch Skycoaster in the world when it's completed. Can't wait to ride this one!
scbt
Probably a stupid question, but do we know if the Baby SLC will have OTSRs or Lapbars?
XYZ
Probably a stupid question, but do we know if the Baby SLC will have OTSRs or Lapbars? I think it's safe to say that it will have lap bars. The last time a Vekoma Suspended Family coaster was built with trains that have OTSRs was back in 2005.
