Biggest Disappointment of 2010?

Recommended Posts

Another disappointment, I read somewhere that World of Colour increased California Adventure's attendance by 20%, that sucks because it will encourage them to put in more crap like World of Colour. Props to Knott's Scary Farm for their World of Colour piss take, very niiice.

RIP/VIP Halloween tours: I'd never done them before and on the nights I went to BGT HOS and USO HHN, I could have covered in an hour what they took 5 hours to do, complete waste of time and money - maybe worth it on apocalyptically busy nights. And they only take you through each maze once.

Intimidator 305 was my biggest disappointment, not because of the trims, but because it just wasn't much fun for me. I was hoping for something closer in style to Maverick, only bigger. The snap turns were too sharp for me, and I had to ride so defensively that it seemed like a chore. At least the soft harnesses were comfortable -- I shudder to imagine how it must have been with hard restraints.

Pretty much what I was trying to say in my unintelligible post, although I haven't ridden Maverick - or many actual full-size Intamins, for that matter. The restraints were fine, but I think I was actually too short...that weird flap thing was always poking me in the neck.

And thanks for the birthday shoutout, Chris/Chroniq!

As long as the crap like WoC stays within the California parks, it won't affect the quality of the Disney parks in the rest of the world...

Coca-Cola Freestyle Machines not having Fanta Melon.

How about not having any Freestyle machines in New York..

This was another major dissappointment I missed.

I'm not sure how thouroughly this has been covered on TPR.

The change to Dragon Challeng is total crap.

Hollywood Rockit never getting it's intended capacity and looking at a block section instead of a killer airtime hill (after the loop).

The change to Dragons Challenge being total and complete crap and I hate you all for reminding me of that. I mean are you freakin serious? Bring in a bed and a glass of orange juice and take out everything that's cool. Except for the ride of course which totally kicks ass.

The new Six Flags management. - Honestly, I loved what Shapiro was doing. I thought he was really taking the parks in the right direction...and then the new guys came in. It seems like all the things Shapiro was beginning to do like longer park hours and seasons and adding the new franchises to the park has just been undone. While it doesn't seem to bother the knowledgeable enthusiast as much, the uniformed guests, the ones they should be trying to keep happy are obviously not too happy about the changes. (Hell, just look at the parks Facebooks...)

Six Flags Great America's Fright Fest. - Yes this was the first year going but I had seen lots of pictures/videos/ptrs of it and I still just left feeling somewhat left down. While the ride rethemes were great, (TT2..amazing!!) and the shows I saw were awesome as well, I really get into haunts and haunted houses and such and it just seemed so lackluster compared to other events I've been to. The theming was okay, could be a lot better but not terrible and I remember seeing all of five scare-actors (outside of the houses). Honestly, one actor is not enough to cover a whole section of the park. I get that they didn't bring back JPM and all, but c'mon, is that really the best they could do?

Robb, but wasn't Soaring actually good, or was that just Disney fanboy hype?

Maybe they could spice it up by making it Soaring Over Californication?

More disappointments:

*2 more failed attempts to get the Pterandon Flyers credit.

*Rip Ride Busted a Sprocket not working, though I'm assuming it sucks, and they spent $60 million on that?

*The continued lack of coasters down here, I mean what other city in the civilised world with over 4 million population has only one small wild mouse coaster?

For me the biggest disappointment has been PNDOL collapsing. I know it's kinda biased and personal but I find it was quite shocking.

That, and Timberliners still not ready on Voyage. I would have loved to see them run before the season was over. Hopefully this will lead to a better perfomance once they are definitely operating on Voyage.

The biggest dissapointment of 2010 for me was the closing of AstroWorld. Yes I know it happened 5 years ago but I am still reeling from what I consider to be one of the BIGGEST mistakes in the Amusement Park Industry.

And to make matter worse they still have not rebuilt Greezed Lightnin'. C'mon Joyland get with it!

I totally agree! I visit Houston every summer but I never got to visit this park. Reason being that I was there to visit family each time...but still, I would have killed for just one day in this park. And I would have had opportunities to visit the past couple of seasons if the park was still open. But hopefully Joyland will find a way to build Greezed Lightnin'!

Other than that, my biggest disappointment this year is Jay Thomas leaving SFMM. While I'm happy he's at least still with Six Flags, and I do believe he'll be able to accomplish some great things at corporate, I feel that SFMM will take a hit. He seemed to do so well in helping to motivate the employees, in upkeep (i.e. the decision to repaint Goliath and Batman), and in overall operations. I also appreciated how well new park additions/improvements turned out under him (such as X2, Terminator, and although it wasn't very successful, Thomas Town). My trips to SFMM were much better while he was in charge than past visits had been. I don't doubt that Bonnie Rabjohn will do a good job, but it seems like she'll have big shoes to fill if the park is going to keep improving like it has over the past few years.

Oh, and the other thing that disappointed me this year- the Intamin cable. It didn't do anything amazing this year.

But look at everything they have been able to use the property for!

Oh wait, never mind. GL and HRP are more recent blunders, but Astroworld closing is as perplexing as it is disappointing.

Not to mention there are PLENTY of good Schwarzkopfs just sitting in sheds DOING NOTHING. They need to be built places.

The Year of the Valley-ed Roller Coasters: Afterburner, Nitro, Rip Ride Rockit.

When I worked at Apollos Chariot, and we had the same problem two days in a row, Evacuations of the mid-course, not fun. And when our lift motor broke, and the ride was down for over a week. Removing Big Bad Wolf before having a clear cut choice of what to put in next. Those were my major disappointments of the year.

However, something that wasn't a disappointment was i305. I honestly thought that without an over-banked turn (like MF) that it would suck more than a Hoover, but honestly even with the trims, and before the super sweet harnesses, it wasn't bad at all. Good Job KD!

#1: Going to Oktoberfest the previous year when we could have gone with TPR this year!

#2: HRRR - this was just a personal fail for me. Couldn't queue up the Beastie Boys before I was strapped in and going up the lift and then got slam-banged on the restraints two or three times during the ride. Only rode it once, so can't say that it was a total failure. Need to ride it again to see if it's better the 2nd time.

#3: I305 - Greying out on the turn. Seemed like a great ride, but I wasn't sure what to make of my first grey out on a coaster. I don't blame them for putting in the trims and also have to boo the a$$holes that booed the park management at the TPR event. I don't car if you liked the ride or not, that is no way to act at a coaster enthusiast event. Whoever you are, you should be ashamed of yourselves! Especially when TPR provided FREE BEER!!!!!

#4: Windseekers: Would have been a neat concept at one park, but c'mon...is it really gonna be good enough to justify it being built at just about every CF park?

#5: Teh Big Dipper: What a total shame on what could have been a classic coaster getting a new life. I thought for sure that CP would bring it to their beachfront, but now it looks like it is just going to be the brunt of everyone's jokes and then get torn down. Upside being that we had a helluva good photo contest and was one of the biggest threads of the year!

#6: Big Bad Wolf getting the ax before Iron Dragon. FAIL.

Here are a few of mine:

Clutch Powers 3-D at Legoland California: Ok, I had really high hopes for this one as the other lego 3-D films have been fantastic, and have been able to tell they're story without the use of speech. This film seemed like a total afterthought of the lego full length version that was realesed with the park film. The story was really dumb, (they're all fighting each other to get a BOX) and the effects were not as good as past films from Lego.

The Removal Of The Manatees At Sea World San Diego Really? Really? REALLY? Just why? We were given no reason for why they were moved back to Florida...

Project Reef Runner Need I say ANY more?

V2: Vertical Velocity SFDK Down for more than half the year, including the two times I went...

Removal of Cobra at SFDK for a Starflyer Cobra has better still be somewhere in the park next season...

San Francisco Giant Hey, I'm a Cali person, but many Texans are not going to be happy when they arrive at Six Flags Over Texas one day next year and find the Texas Giant has been turned into the name of the team who defeated them in the World Series for a day.

Those are the ones I think are the biggest irks of 10'

Not having any of Robb's ass burning wings at a TPR Party this year and the old TPR Clubhouse burning down (although that might not be a disappointment because now the TPR headquarters are effing sweet!)

First year where I didn't visit more than 3 parks. This year has sucked pretty hard for me theme park-wise.
