Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread

p. 777: Winterfest starts on November 29!

Popularity fell off a little when the economy started to tank. tickets and merch are not cheap. that with Jimmie Johnson winning five years in a row turned people away. It is starting to fill back up.

I personally love the Intimidator theme and think it should remain that way. Though it was dumb to paint the supports yellow in my opinion.

imo I305 is the most beautiful coaster ever created. that lift and drop blow my eyes away. nothing comes close to it

Especially with Anaconda right next to it, having the same colors.

I can't stand red and yellow together not to mention yellow makes no sense with the Intimidator theme.

then y did u come to the park???

Probably because the support color of a roller coaster doesn't deter most sane human beings from enjoying a day at a park.

Not to be a backseat moderator, but I'd recommend you improve your spelling and grammar sooner rather than later.

First point: Never begin a post with "not to be a [fill in the blank]" and then proceed to be a [fill in the blank].

Second point: Yes, TPR requires the use of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, so no "text speak," please.

Thank you.

Well i came to the park for the kind people and to take part in Coasting for Kids. There is also the part where i don't let a support color ruin my experience (see signature). I merely stated my opinion on my dislike of the colors. Colors don't affect the forces, speed, or layout.

For now on I'm going to blame my dislike of coasters on the color schemes...

Loch Ness Monster - brown and yellow? Gross!

Anaconda - red, forest green, and yellow rails? Eww!

Hurler - natural wood? Disgusting!

And to touch on the Intimidator 305 color scheme... Although it doesn't necessarily fit the theme perfectly, I feel like it did just what the park wanted it to do by 'popping' in the park's skyline. Being in the very back corner of the park I feel like the yellow does a good job catching the eye compared to a gray, white, neutral color would. For being the park's signature coaster I like how the yellow pops out and is quite bold in comparison to I232's bland gray. With that said I just hope they keep it painted and don't let it go 12+ seasons like TTD at Cedar Point because its yellow and red looks awful currently.

Im going to KD soon and I am considering bringing my dslr camera do most of the coasters/flats have bins? also are any of the shows must see?

Most coasters do have bins/shelves to put stuff in/on. If it is an expensive camera, I would suggest renting a locker to put it in when you want to focus on riding attractions.

If it is just adults, or you have tweens and older, there are only two shows that are family/adult oriented. There is "Cirque Imagine" at the Kings Dominion Theater (3 showtimes a day, 4 shows on Saturday; off Monday). Circus / acrobatic theme. Great performers and overall show is quite good. "All Wheel Sports" at the Peanuts Showplace (3 showtimes a day, 4 shows on Saturday; off Wednesday). Folks doing stunts on street bikes, inline skates, Trampoline work. It has a large ramp setup on the stage for jumps, flips, rotations, etc. Fun entertainment. The rest of the shows are Kiddie oriented. They also have a Karaoke show with singing hosts and audience participation. There are no real song/dance performances in the park this season.

The yellow isn't bad in I305 because the supports are more sparse and the biggest are worth seeing. Otherwise, the red takes over.

About the Shockwave area, I would sure prefer another coaster. It would need to be a family or still a novelty-ish coaster to fit, just a lot more modern. Maybe a flyer called the Red Baron? Plus it has a nice station building, might want to reuse. Elevated though. Might want to move entrance.

Anyone been recently on a Saturday/Sunday give me an idea on how bad the wait times can be?

Saturday and Sunday are a lot different! Sunday late especially can be one of the slackest times all week, unless the weather is bad Saturday, which otherwise should be avoided.

^ I believe if Kings Dominion had the choice they would get rid of the racing theme and tie it into Safari Village somehow when and if they change the name. I do believe Carowinds would choose to keep the racing theme. However, it all depends on what Cedar Fair wants to do from a financial standpoint.

If Cedar Fair is not willing to put the money forward for a decent re-theme, expect a generic racing theme which wouldn't be bad and would be a lot easier to get used to. I expect if they're not willing to pay for licensing, they might not be interested in paying for lots of new theming. If the rides were to get a good new theme though, I'd imagine merchandise sales would go up once again.

It would take quite a bit of work and money on both Intimidators if they were to go with a whole different theme. The concrete tunnels, gift shops themed to garages, station style, race car train paint jobs, and plaza checked flag pavers come to mind.

Everyone please keep in mind though none of this could happen! Just enthusiasts getting excited over a 40% off sale in gift-shops currently.

I agree. Virginia is not nearly as big on NASCAR and racing as the Carolina's are.

I'm sorry, but i'm going to have to disagree. Virginia is pretty big on NASCAR racing and Richmond International Raceway is just around the corner from Kings Dominion!
