P. 778: Pantherian project update!

Huss is on its death bed, I would bet we wont see anything from Huss

Huss isn't the only manufacturer of frisbee-style rides.

But HUSS is the only good manufacturer of them.

I would disagree. Zamperla makes an excellent version--even larger than the HUSS models.

I was looking at a Google Maps aerial of the Shockwave site and then looked at an aerial of SFGAm's X Flight. With a little tweaking of the layout I think it could fit even if it had to cross over the path from the Eiffel Tower towards Blue Ridge Tollway. You would have to relocate Flying Ace, Bad Apple and remove the stadium to make it work though. The only thing is that CF usually goes relatively big with their coaster additions so that wouldn't work.

So what you're saying is... it doesn't fit. Got it.

Heading out to Kings Dominion for the first time ever next week. Very excited. We will be at the park before opening in order to be amongst the first non season ticket holders in the park. What order should we ride everything? We want to ride all the major rollercoasters, Eiffel Tower, & Boo Blasters. We aren't currently planning to go Soak City at all. Is this doable on a Saturday? We plan on staying open-close if we have to.

Everyone has this advice; RIDE VOLCANO FIRST. Wait even a little and you won't get to go on because of how insane the lines get. I305 usually has manageable lines so it can be ridden at any time, and Dominator is best to ride later in the day. Other than that I can't really say because I've only been there once. Coincidentally I'm also going next week! (The day after you in fact )

I can't stress what you said enough. Even on days where I305 has almost NO ONE waiting in the station and you can get double rides on Flight of Fear because you're one of the only people on the ride, Volcano for some reason can still have a 20+ minute wait.

Ok so I've been to kings dominion 8 times, but I have never been on a weekend. However I have been when it's semi crowded. So obviously if you don't have a season pass, go on dominator first, it opens 30 mins before the rest of the park don't go on berserker yet though, that's a ride that's great to ride right before you leave the park. Then head down the path between dominator and Woodstock express and make your way through planet snoopy to the Safari village, you might have to wait until the rope drops if the rest of the park hadn't opened yet. Go to volcano right after the rope drops, as it gets the longest lines. After volcano, go to imtimidator 305, flight of fear, anaconda, and backlot. You can also ride avalanche and the crypt if you want to. Then go down to candy apple grove and ride shovkwave, drop zone, rebel yell, and Windseeker. Ricochet and hurler are both optional, but since you haven't been on them before you're probably going to want to. Ride grizzly next, if you can also try to ride grizzly again at night, it's not as good as the beast, but it sure packs a punch! If you want you can then go on the log flume, white water canyon gets you very, very wet, so since you don't plan to go to the waterpark I don't recommend it. Then you can ride Woodstock express at the other side of the park (and the great pumpkin coaster if you really want to, but I think you might need a kid for that...) once you do all that, it shouldn't be late, and again I don't know how bad it is on weekends but I don't think it's too bad. Dominator usually has a short line from like 3-6, and that's my favorite ride there, so I usually reride it a bunch of times. But yeah basically just wander around the park and ride whatever you want, and don't forget to ride berserker at the end of the day!

Edit: wow, I didn't realize how how much I'd written!

^ Very doubtful that they would go with the name King Cobra in the middle of Candy Apple Grove. It is definitely a name fit for Safari Village.

Also, it appears that both Intimidator 305 and Intimidator 232's gift shops have 40% off most of the merchandise. Could we be seeing a rename of the two coasters? You might remember Nickelodeon merchandise went 40% off in 2009 right about this time of the year too as the parks prepared for Planet Snoopys.

If I recall correctly, the rumor was that the 'Intimidator' Dale Earnhardt original contract was through 2015 so maybe they're not resigning the contract.

If we are in fact looking at a rename and possible re-theme I believe the two rides will get the separate identities that they deserve. Although I'm not a big fan of renaming signature roller coasters, I've liked what I have seen recently from Cedar Fair theming wise (especially the Banshee/Fury additions), so it could work in our favor in the long run.

Although it would be fairly pricey to re-theme the entire Intimidator plazas, it would be quite something if the park were to bring back the King Cobra name for Kings Dominion and White Lightnin' name for Carowinds. However, if the names are changed I'd imagine the themes would still be racing considering the amount of theming both rides have.

1. I305 is never going to be renamed or re-themed.

2. King Kobra fits into Candy Apple Grove better than I305/Flight of Fear/Backlot Stunt Coaster fit into Safari Village.

Kings Dominion is in a new era now with Matt Ouimet - just look at all the attention to detail they have done with 2013's addition of Planet Snoopy, 2014's appreciation of the past with the 40th Anniversary, and 2015's spectacular looking Soak City. With that said, theming seems to be more important to the park now and I doubt will see another theming disaster.

Intimidator 305 could easily be renamed and re-themed. All it takes is Cedar Fair and/or Dale Earnhardt Inc not wanting to resign the contact. It has been a rumor since 2010 that the initial contract ends at the end of the 2015 season - so maybe one or both parties did not want to sign another one? Remember, it is costing Cedar Fair money to have that name and maybe they don't see it worth it - especially now that merchandise isn't as hot 6 seasons later and Intimidator at Carowinds isn't the headliner anymore (cough cough Fury).

And if they are to bring back an old name to the Candy Apple Grove for a coaster in Shockwave's spot I'd imagine it being 'Galaxie', the coaster that was in that location before Shockwave although I doubt they would ever do that.

Anyone been recently on a Saturday/Sunday give me an idea on how bad the wait times can be? We'll be there for Dominator at 10am and then be heading to Volcano & I305 but I want to figure how long it will take me to do the major coasters, Boo Blaster, Eiffel Tower & maybe see a show. We are usually 1 and done with coasters, maybe a reride on I305 if we can.

No, thank you so much! That's very helpful!

I agree that it's not improbable and definitely not impossible to think the Intimidator name will soon be gone. Parks are getting smarter and not wanting to pay names that do little or nothing for their coasters. My wife and I are non Nascar fans, so to us the theming just looks ugly.

I agree. I think a different theme could have done a lot more for the ride. Particularly something that had to do with the Safari. That is pretty limitless. But at this point, I also feel it would be pretty difficult to adjust to a new name and theme.

I think it's definitely possible the name could change. The theme though will more than likely stay the same and have something to do with racing. It would cost a lot to retheme the plaza, get new trains, and perhaps repaint the coaster if they changed the theme drastically. I got so used to saying "I305" so much that I'd be disappointing if the acronym isn't the same! At first I didn't like the name a little but it really grew on me. It really lives up to the name Intimidator! [305]

EDIT: Also, you know i'm going to get some I305 merchandise while I can! (and on sale!). It would be sorta nostalgic of the old name if they indeed change it

We bought a few magnets and other little trinkets from the i305 gift shop last week. They had a table and a display with discounted stuff on it. It really seemed like it was discontinued crap that was not selling very well, rather than cleaning house of i305 merch.

With that being said, I could totaly see a name change for the intimidator rides. The race car theme really does not add much to the ride, and is not really worth keeping the license to continue to theme it to a particular race car driver. I don't fallow nascar, but does it even have that big of a fallowing? I just never seem to hear much about it.

NASCAR is actually huge in the U.S. believe it or not

Yep--I don't follow it, either, but it has grown into a huge sport in the U.S.; that being said, I've heard that NASCAR's popularity is starting to fall off (perhaps people are tired of watching other people turn left for hours on end).
