p. 832: Camp Snoopy announced for 2024!

No SOB closed Are any other coasters currently closed at KI because there is a chance I will be able to go there for the first time next Wednesday & I want to ride everything. I don't care what people think of SOB. I'm a big woodie fan & I have been wanting to ride it for a while.

The only thing that can help Son of Beast is 50 pounds of high explosives and enough shock cord to wire it all together.

Whoever has the board alias "SonofBeastSucks" is spot on.

Why do you guys want it to be removed so bad? Alot of People actually do love Son of Beast. It's not like you have to ride it... So you shouldn't complain. What if I said I hated... Wicked Twister, and I want it to be removed cause I don't like it? Just because some people don't like a ride doesn't mean It should be removed, some people do like SOB and want it to be around for a long time, and don't even say "So something better can go in it's place." Do you really think they would waste Millions of dollars tearing down a ride that alot of people like and is one of the most popular rides at the park, just to spend more Millions of Dollars to build some other Coaster there? It's not going to happen... If you don't like Son of Beast, It's okay, but you shouldn't complain all the time about how you don't like it so It should be removed!

Yes, Disney does it all the time. So does Universal.

Hypersonic disagrees with this... If a ride is a maintenance problem (and a massive wooden coaster that tears itself apart like SOB does definitely qualifies) at some point it will more then likely go because its just not worth having around any more. You need to be getting a return on your investment, at some point that time is going to come with SOB.

I rode SOB two times, both in the front seat. I rode with the old trains and loop, and I rode with no loop and the "new" G-trains. Both times it was incredibly awful, the second time even more so. There is no airtime, the layout is incredibly uninteresting and at times slows to a crawl (at the top of the second helix for example), but even still manages to be waaay to rough.

I don;t mind a rough coaster, but I need to get something in return for getting beaten up. Grizzly comes to mind. I think Grizzly at KD is a nice wooden coaster. It can be rough, but it also gives some nice airtime and laterals so its totally worth it. SOB is just rough with no redeeming qualities at all. If I went back to the park I would ride it again if it was open, but I wouldn't be sad to see it torn down.

Because it's a giant mountain of suck that has actually harmed human beings. We've done worse things to people who have done less to harm the human race.

Yes. They're called "People who have never left the state of Ohio."

Whoa, whoa, whoa... easy now. You're going to upset WickedTwisterFan07.

But if we don't complain all the time about how it should be torn down, how else will Cedar Fair know that they should tear it down?

I really think everyone who say Son of Beast is extremely painful suffers from an extremely bad condition. Yeah Son of Beast has 1 Rough spot, but other than that, it's a great coaster and one of my favorites. If you can't take that little of pain, I don't see how you are a coaster enthusiast.

Just wait till you're 37 and a coaster enthusiast, shunny....'dem bones 'ill all be a creakin' on ya and it won't be the same ridin' them rough rollie coasters no more - you just wait!!! Hehehe!!!

Here's my stance on the ride:

Like many people have said already, SoB really doesn't have anything special about it anymore. Sure, it's the tallest and fastest woodie, but that's about it. The layout is, frankly, boring as hell. Big lift, drop, crappy helix, another crappy helix, 2 turns, and brakes. Nothing special - hell, there's kiddie coasters out there that have a more diverse set of elements. There is no denying it anymore - without the loop (and even with the loop, depending on who you talk to), the ride is a lemon.

The G-trains didn't do a whole lot to help with the shakiness of the ride. The old Premier trains stapled you into the seat, allowing no room to move or brace for the roughness. It was basically a 3-minute violation of your body. the G-trains, while they do give you more room to move, just don't do the ride justice whatsoever. It feels a little like the width of them aren't quite correct, either. Personally, I felt several points in the ride where the trains seemed to shift laterally more than they should. It just added to the overall roughness and unpleasantness. Riding SoB in the G-trains is slightly better, but still a 3-minute violation of your body.

If the park removes it and adds something better, I'm all for it. There is a lot of land back in that area, just begging to be used. There's probably even enough room to expand the pathways into that area and add a coaster or two and several flats. The park could have so many options to use that plot of land, it just seems pointless to leave such a (as Oslor said) giant mountain of suck standing. I have a feeling we may have seen the last of the Son, but all we can really do is wait for the official word from the park.

Looking at the history, maybe they'll remove it and put in another 3-point challenge. A much better investment business-wise.

Besides, how many people on here are still whining about Hercules, Shockwave, Flashback, Psyclone, Hypersonic, King Cobra... the list goes on and on, Rides get removed from parks all the time, even parks owned by Cedar Fair and Six Flags. Get over it. The only time I really understand someone defending a coaster being torn down like this is if it's good AND has a serious historical significance. SoB is like the old, circular-looping coasters in the 20's. They hurt people and the idea didn't work. Tear it down and build something, anything, in it's place!

^I think he's talking about Shockwave (SFGAm), King Cobra (KI), and King Kobra (KD).

But seriously, people are still complaining about the removal of King Cobra...including me. The TOGO stand-ups are actually really good rides.

I think the main reason it is so missed is because it wasn't replaced with anything better...unless you like giant HUSS statues with short cycles and crotch-crushing restraints.

angryemobeaver, is there something between you and Son of Beast that you're hiding from us?

Seriously, Just cause I like one coaster alot of people don't like I now have sex with it? Why are you so obsessed with Monorails? Do you want to have sex with a monorail?

Alot of People actually do love Son of Beast.

Yes. They're called "People who have never left the state of Ohio."

I don't even live in Ohio... I have ridden coasters in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, and Texas. I can't help it that I just turned 16 and don't have my license yet, and my parents don't care for coasters so they only take me to a few places a year. As soon as I get out of college, My Ride List will be probably around 200+ and over the years will add up more.

And I do know alot of people who do in fact love SOB, some of them have ridden over 300 Coasters too, and it's not like they're favorite rides are Texas Rattler, Texas Giant, Mean Streak, Physclone, and other coasters known to be bad. They just like Son of Beast. So what it doesn't have alot of airtime, That isn't the only thing a coaster should have. It's almost like Airtime is the new thing every coaster has to have, like in the 1980's it was most inversions. Soon there will be another thing coasters will try to compete in, laterals?

Just a thought from when I was there on the TPR Midwest trip...

Any ride that takes your on ride photo before the lift hill is going to be trouble! I don't know if its still there but yeah, that's a bad sign.

I like rough woodies, a lot. Jenn and I go out of our way to ride them. SOB was really horrible. I swear my ribs hurt after riding that.
