^^ Another experimental idea.... just what Son of Beast needs...

Imagine this idea failing and the ride experience being the same.

1.) Very expensive refurb(trains, control systems, and brakes) and nothing gained for cedar fair

2.) Bad publicity for the new trains for GG

Just cut your losses CF. The structure was flawed and will not continue to hold up. Timberliners aren't going to be the answer to every wooden coaster flaw until they have a fully functional train that has run for a couple years.

it works tho. They ran them on Holiday worlds Raven. And still its a improvement on the ride.

Also, why would they need to upgrade the brakes and ride system? These are designed to be placed on and work just like a regular coaster train.

The Timberliners are different trains, which require new censors and magnetic brakes which are very expensive. Also, while the chasis with the stripped down bench is running, we don't know how well the train will ride and what effects it will have on the structure over time.

Until they are tested for a couple years on a more tame coaster, I wouldn't want to see them on SOB

How rough is it in reality? More or less rough than say Mean Streak.

I've ridden both this season. Mean Streak in the front seat was not painful whatsoever, just boring. Mean Streak in the backseat was pretty painful. SOB is extremely painful no matter where you sit. I absolutely hate SOB especially when I think about the money that was spent on it instead of something better.

Agreed...I have ridden both in the front seat and I did not find Mean Streak that bad at all - at night it was actually (gasp!) kinda fun!

Now SOB just did something to my inside chest cavity area during the helix that I did not find appropriate at all. This is one of the rides where my expectations were very low, I gave it a chance, and I still have to agree with the majority - it just plain failed. After what happened to me on that initial front seat ride, I really felt nervous about trying to see if it was actually better in any other seat...I think I made the right choice!

Just goes to prove that biggest is not always best. Just ask SFGA and Kingda Ka, or Nagashima Spaland and Steel Dragon 2000!

I have always wanted to experience what SoB was like when it had the loop but never was able to get there.

But I want to know am I the only one that thinks Mean Streak is the easily the the best and most exciting coaster at Ceadr Point and that it is the best wooden coaster in the world? I even think it is a lot better than El Toro.

Mean Streak will only be the most exciting coaster at CP when it is the only one left

Ok, would you please explain what you like so much about Mean Streak? I think it is at about 14th or 15th best coaster at cedar point for me(just estimating of the top of my head) and it is BY FAR NOT the best wooden coaster in the world(or best wooden coaster in park for that matter. I am not putting down your opinion, I would just like you to explain why a little bit.

OK to answer your question it is because I am a person who enjoys the rougher coasters more than smooth coaster and I like twisty unpredictable wild rides instead of just airtime. So I enjoys these more than like the newer coaster. I enjoy Twister, Wildcat (Hershey), I also loved Hercules, and others like these.

I have ridden all coasters at

-Dorney

-Hershey

-Kings Dominon

- SFGADV

-Kennywood

-Cedar Point

-coasters at Mrytle Beach, Ocean City Md coasters, Morey Piers coaster

-Knobels

-busch Gardens-both (loved Gwazi)

-Disney, Universal

and a few others The only coaster I have hated are Magnum (bruised me) and Kingda Ka ( Boring it doesn't do much)

R.I.P. Myrtle Beach Hurricane 2nd best coaster ever

I went to CP in 2000 and i rode Mean Streak like 20 times in 2 days. I dont remember it being bad or boring. I think what has happened coasters elements have grown so that the once thrilling rides arent anymore. There are a lot of coasters that turned me on until I rode The Voyage and El Toro and now those other coasters are blah. I also remember riding The Villian at Guega Lake and thoroughly enjoyed that one.

I rode Villain in 02 and I liked it a lot, but then went back again in 06 or 07 and I couldnt stand it. Also, I love all the new coasters with the insane elements but I can ride a little classic woodie and enjoy it just the same.

To be honest, i can't really see how the whole project was feasible from the start. I mean, there is a COLOSSAL amount of wood used to make this which would have been massively expensive just for the novelty value of having a huge (and apparently disappointing) wooden coaster.

Sheer designing genius.

Oh i read it wrong. I thought it said they didnt need any work, but still, what surprised me was, Who the hell has a launched wooden coaster.

Maybe there needs to be some kind of federal law that requires a coaster after some odd years to have to be tested for roughness in addition to all the tests they put them through each year. Ive never ridden it, but i just saw where it said shock absorption and figured "hey that sounds great for SOB" It would be pretty cool though to have them. Holiday World even said they might consider buying some for Raven. If they do ill be fine with that, if they dont ill be fine lol.
