Kings Island (KI) Discussion Thread

p. 832: Camp Snoopy announced for 2024!

^Technically, yes. But neither of them are the high-capacity B&M Inverts that people have been calling for. (And for the record, I don't count Invertigo as an Invert - its an Inverted Boomerang, not the same for me.)

Exactly, a full-circuit adult invert is the main gap in KI coaster selection right now. It would be great if they could demolish SoB and put in a B&M invert in its spot. That would not only fill the void, but also help restore Action Zone, which has rapidly become the weakest area of the park since Diamondback and Firehawk moved in.

Much like Diamondback, I think a B&M invert could be a huge hit with guests, espically since a lot of KI's visitors don't really have easy access to one, as Cixot hinted.

Too bad money dosen't grow on trees, although since KI is now a CF park that's probably a good thing. CF would be in a lot of trouble if it did .

^All I can say is wow! Glad you aren't in park management!

Oh no, you got it all wrong. This is just something I would like to see. I know for a fact that the majority wouldn't, and I accept that. This is just something I think about time to time. Call me jealous, but my favorite type of ride is the B&M Invert model. The closest one to me is Cedar Point and that's 4 hours away. I just wish we had one.

I actually agree with you on that point. KI really does need a quality B&M invert. They are one of my favorites as well. I still can't believe they dont already have one. I guess that means that when they get one it should be an updated version of the ride.

I actually think that the ravine where Flight Deck would be perfect for a unique invert. I do enjoy Flight Deck though. It seems as though KI has a lot of untapped land for future expansion.

Joe - Wait you're saying that Liz is complaining about coasters being rough and you aren't complaining? That must be a first.

Eh? I don't recall complaining about coaster roughness too much as of late. I've gotten a lot better at riding defensively so that most things don't really get me that badly.

Heck, I think Insane even made my top 10 and I rode it for the entire ERT session.

Ginzo, have you ridden FOF this season? I think you may be in for a surprise...

I think we did the night we met up with PKI Man and it seemed about normal. But that was the first Friday of the entire season. So, who knows.

I'd rather have 2 or 3 trims on a little bit than just 1 that causes you to jerk forward.

Oh come on, don't exaggerate.

It's Kings Island. Did you think they'd build the perfect B&M? Of course not, again..it's Kings Island. It's just a good B&M hyper. I'm so happy we got this far.

I'm not, that's the only trim I've ever experienced on a B&M where I've actually jerked forward that much. Usually they are just a light tap. Even Mantis' on the first drop isn't as bad...

DB is still a damn good coaster. I gave it a 9/10 on my CF rating. I just thought it was just a normal, cookie cutter B&M Hyper (which isn't a bad thing by any means) with nothing that really stood out or was unique, layout-wise.

The trim just makes the cycles time perfect. It's supposed to be 35 seconds from the lift to the midcourse; so the trim makes it perfect.

If you don't want the trim...ride it in the morning when the coaster isn't warmed up as much.

The trim doesn't really affect the ride THAT much. Yeah it's annoying, but that hill is still a great airtime hill and the turn into the midcourse is plenty forceful even when the trim grabs hard. Even without it, you'd be slowed at the midcourse anyways.

I still thought it was the hardest B&M trim I've ever felt. Not to mention, now that I think about it, we barely slowed down, if at all, at the MCBR, which is kind of strange.

^You know, now that you mention it...it does seem like the 4th hill trim grabs a lot harder now than the MCBR. (Completely opposite from how it was near the beginning of the season.)

The midcourse gives you two squeezes. The trim is there so you won't overspeed the MCBR and the won't estop itself.

Just so everyone knows and this was also put on Screamscape. If you go to the Spotlight gift's at the front of the park ALOT of Son of Beast merchandise is on clearance. I phoned in to be sure and purchased 2 SOB shirts for $2.50! plus shipping. When I asked why they were clearancing the SOB merch they stated "Its to get rid of older stock for new items for 2010" which roughly means new designs.

I posted this here on August 4, but it probably fits better in this thread:

State inspectors have cleared Son of Beast, but based on non-committal comments such as this one:

Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig said “though I would like to have an exact date, it would be inappropriate to speculate on when exactly the ride may re-open.”

Source

I tend to think that if you haven't yet ridden Son of Beast, you're not going to ride Son of Beast.

^I agree. I think the park has finally realized what they need to do with it - 1-800-GOT-JUNK.

And I don't think I've ever seen park item that deeply discounted. That just really screams to me that SoB may have seen its last days.

JZ's actually been a Diamondback ride op for about a month now. I guess he never really announced it to the world of TPR. So much for our in dept KI man....

Anyways, gotta chime in on stuff. SoB possibly opening again is kind of a suprise to me. Sure it keeps the coaster count up, all the records going, and all that fun stuff, but IMO from a KI local its not worth it. SoB's gone through a few health issues already, and its just not a good ride. Sure there are times where it could be fun, but you have to be willing to take a beating to get the good seats (ie S&M the ride). I'm definately on the tear it down and make something good bandwagon, but with Diamondback being built this year, SoB will probabbly still stand for a year or 2 before they have the money to replace it....

So yeah, Diamondback for the win. My fave at KI and my 2nd favorite steel.

IF they do choose to keep it, I think they should invest in the ride carefully. As in give it the rehab of rehabs. I thinking replace all the track with prefabricated wooden track to ensure a smooth ride. I'm sure that can do something where they attach sensors to roll around the course of the track to pick up the contour which could then could become input for the track manufacturing process so that it fits. I think SOB with prefab track would bring back its glory.

Its glory? Oh lawd. A prefab track for SOB would probably cost more than T Express. And for a layout that's predictable, boring, and uneventful.

Get it out of here.
