Carowinds Discussion Thread

P. 418: Camp Snoopy expansion announced including new family coaster

The Alex asked:

Why does the paint already look faded?

Maybe the people putting in this ride haven't had a chance to paint this coaster yet? I'm sure the faded red tracks with blue support will be getting a fresh coat of paint. I'm think dark green tracks with light green supports so this coaster would look like a coaster.

With my Cedar Fair Platinum Pass, I definitely will travel down to Carowinds to try and tame the Carolina Cobra. I've ridden many boomerang coasters, so it's interesting to feel the new trains in action.

This is good that Carowinds is getting some love. They really need that hyper in 2010, finally a good coaster that wasn't re-located from another park. Now when is it CGA's turn

Being a fan of Hypers, I hope Carowinds gets their answer to Diamondback, Behemoth, etc. Love that style of coaster.

Wait...you mean to look at? I thought you didn't ride coasters, Nerd...?

/Shouldn't you be pissed that they took out the log flume?!

Wow... Cedar Fair is doing quite a bit to fix up Carowinds.

I applaud Cedar Fair for fixing up the ex-Paramount parks.

Well they should after all because Carowinds, along with the former Paramount parks could certainly use it....especially if they hope to bring them up to CF standards.

1. Concrete...lots of concrete

2. Mediocre coasters (for the most part)

3. Trash cans...lots of trash cans

4. Demolish anything that provides the slightest bit of atmosphere

A large hyper for Carowinds will be great for the park, and it is nice that Cedar Fair is putting some capital into improving it since it seemed like it was forgotten by Paramount. I hope though that the hyper is one of the smaller ones though (like Apollo's Chariot), so that it doesn't completely overwhelm the park's skyline like Diamondback. I've never been to the park, but if it does overwhelm the area, then I'm sure the atmosphere will probably be killed. (it is CF though)

thats what I feared...

Yeah, I always preferred Paramount as far as park atmosphere goes, but CF building quality coasters makes up for it. I just wish they had more unique ride names/signage, etc. Hopefully this will shut up the Carowinds fanboys for a while so CF can give some attention to the parks that need it more, CGA and MA.

I guess people mistake peach for "faded". I think the scheme looks good. I didn't like it at first but the more I look at it, the more I think it's nice that they chose a scheme outside of red/blue/white/yellow.

Thats the truely sad thing about Carowinds. I pray it never gets down to CF standards but i feel like its too late.

Paramount was far better than Cedar Fair.

Just a thought, but...

Could this be what was SUPPOSED to be going in at California's Great America for 2009/2010, but then got delayed? In which case I think a nice new GCI coaster wouldn't be a bad addition to the Carowinds lineup.

And ^, after the fiascos that have been the openings of the last few Cedar Fair Intamin coasters, I wouldn't blame him if he burned every last trace of their coaster division's contact with the company.

^The delayed 2009 project for CGA was/is a GCII wooden coaster.

How is a 200+ foot ANYTHING! not going to impact the skyline?

I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet for that socalled skyline ruining hyper because the rumor mill is saying 2010 Carrowinds opens White Lightning whichs is... dun dun dun a Relocated Led Zepplin

Which I guess it doesn't matter what the 2010 project is b/c it's going to be bashed regardless what it is

Posted

I think a mega-lite Intamin would be perfect for Carowinds. Not only would it be a cheaper option for the park, but it would probably give Carowinds the best steel coaster in the whole Cedar Fair chain.

Posted

Why do people think led Z could be coming in '10? HRP is STILL in negotiations to get a buyer so why get rid of the one thing that will be really the reason to get a bang out of your buck???

While I really do love B&M coasters im hopeing for something "unique" like it has been mention the mega-lites would be a smart move since there isnt one in the us right now and it will bring some diversity to the coaster line up! Whatever it is im hoping for a custom design...

Nope still can't ride due to motion sick thing, but could stare at B&M Hypers for hours. Magnificent coasters.

(chuckles) Now it Carowinds pulled a Hershey, then I'd be bummed. Otherwise, meh on log flumes and shoot-the-chutes. Not bad rides at all, just not my gig, you know?

Carowinds is doing a ton of things this off-season. This was in today's Newsletter.

What improvements will YOU spot in 2009?

It’s no secret that Carowinds will debut a new exciting roller coaster when it opens for its 37th season on March 28. Carolina Cobra is an exciting addition to the roster of scream machines found in this 112-acre park. You will not be able to miss this towering twisting serpent as it stands tall and proud in the Carolina RFD section of Carowinds! But 2009 will bring a variety of face-lifts to this southern bell of amusement parks.

In addition to the curves of Carolina Cobra, you will detect many new changes at Carowinds this season.

As you arrive at the Park, take note of the stunning new landscaping and rehab work being done at our Southside picnic pavilions - serving our corporate clients at their company picnics.

Keep an eye out for the massive tracks of Nighthawk, erased of the dark green veil and painted a shocking yellow with blue supports.

Take a walk through Nickelodeon™ Central and spy the freshly painted Lazytown™ Sporticopters “flying” just above your head!

Thunder Road, the twin racing wooden coaster located in County Fair, will have another section entirely rebuilt, as part of a multi-year rehab project to eventually replace every piece of wood on the coaster—a difference you’ll be sure to feel!

Waiting in line may be much easier this summer, as we add fans in the queues of our more popular attractions!

If you plan on staying the night, you needn’t look very far. Camp Wilderness Resort, Carowinds 55-acre campground, will open a newly renovated second lodge, improve landscaping, and install satellite TV in all of our luxury cabins!

Best yet - keep an eye out as Carowinds announces an exciting new line up of events and concerts this season as part of its Summer Celebration! It's a whole new experience at Carowinds in 2009. Don't miss out and join the celebration!

A PASS FULL OF SUMMER FUN!

Don't miss your opportunity to buy a 2009 Season Pass before prices go up. It pays for itself in less than 2 visits and is packed with exciting benfits, including FREE admission to SCarowinds Halloween Haunt and FREE parking. Visit carowinds.com today!
