Airtime&Gravity
Another Happy Valley(OCT) park is being built in China, and it will be home to the country's first wooden coaster. As of now, it is set to open in 2009. The recipient of the country's first wooden coaster is Overseas Chinese Town, a new park being constructed in Sheshan, Songjiang, Shanghai. The coaster will be situated on an island near the park's main entrance. As guest pass through the front gate, the ride's structure will appear as a bamboo curtain. The as-yet-unnamed coaster is a combination Out & Back and Twister style with a dogleg footprint. Sporting ten track crossovers and two road crossovers, it will stand 108.25 feet tall with a first drop of 103.5 feet. It will feature 3,819 feet of twisted track and reach a top speed of 56 mph. Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters will provide the rolling stock, which will consist of two six-car trains seating four riders per car. The ride was sold by G. Martin & A. Vleminckx Amusement, Ltd. and will be sourced in Canada and the U.S. The fabrication and installation supervision will be handled by Martin & Vleminckx. The project is a turnkey delivery excluding foundations and installation labor. With engineering of the coaster sub-contracted to The Gravity Group of Cincinnati, Ohio, the ride will be designed and fabricated according to ASTM standards and delivered from America. http://www.amusementtoday.com/ Martin & Vleminckx / The Gravity Group new 2009 Woodie at Happy Valley Shanghai

Wes
Cool layout, but one has to wonder with the "Gravity Group/Martin & Vleminckxckckxkxx/Park That Has Never Had A Wood Coaster In A Country That Has Never Had A Wood Coaster" combination in terms of maintenance issues. gisco
Cool, Shanghai is on my radar for 2009! China sure is going nuts lately building coasters and parks.
Homer
Man, the Far East has surely been in a roller coaster renaissance of sorts. Just surprising that no wooden coasters have been built yet in China. As for the wooden coaster, interesting layout and looks quite fun.
SharkTums
Yeah, finally Shanghai is getting some real coasters! We are NOT doing Shanghai on this years TPR China trip, we're saving it for the future! Hopefully by 2009 this will be open, and the Vekoma thing will be working properly! LcHg5265
With the declining U.S. dollar, don't be surprised to see more and more rides from american companies all over the world.
Meteornotes
^^Should "Vekoma" and "working properly" really appear in the same sentence?!? This coaster looks interesting, but I wonder (like Wes) about maintenance issues. Might be a good idea to ride it in the first year of operation... dt

DenDen
Interesting "footers" on this one, I don't think I've ever seen footer grids like that before. Any other coasters have this?
Mozart67
The lift hill support structure still blows me away. Have seen woodies in recent years with that similar geometric design. Just very cool. Thanks for the pictures!
