Disneyland Resort (DL, DLR, DCA) Discussion Thread

p. 393 - D23 announcement roundup for DL and DCA!

At least they aren't putting lap bars onto Splash Mountain unlike some other parks are.

I am probably the only person on this board that has no problem at all with Ripsaw Fall's lapbars. They were easy to get in, didn't push down too far, and felt safe.

Actually, I really have no problems with them either. I'm 5'10" and 200 pounds, so it's not like I'm a small person. That still doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see them removed.

How many years did that thing run without lap bars? How many other flumes have lap bars? I think it's especially insidious with Ripsaw because of the little bunny hops at the bottom of the last drop. The lap bars only add safety to idiots trying to jump out of the log. Otherwise they just restrict you from getting out of the log in an emergency situation (log capsizes, starts filling up with water, etc.).

but the freakishly tall person is in the way.

I hardly think 60 " is freakishly tall.

Although, I have no idea of your height.

Well Im talking about a little kid, I remember being around 7 or 8 on rides and hating that I couldnt see because someone in front of me was taller.

As for the lap bars on Ripsaw, I know a lot of people who thought it was funny to switch seats while the ride was in motion. I was in the same boat as them telling them to stop, and we were about to ascend the big lift and he switched and that mounty ride op escorted him off the ride, and out of the park. Now if its that easy for a 6th grader to do that, imagine how many other people do it.

If only we lived in a country where idiots like that weren't financially rewarded in the courts. Hello European parks!

Here's a couple of bits of info on what's going on at the resort this week relating to the expansion plans...

*The Mr. Potato Head "barker" animatronic has arrived, it's wrapped in plastic near the WDI trailers behind the show building. The animatronic figure will be placed to the right side of the facade on a podium facing the ride entrance. Hopefully they set it up soon! TSM is now running up to 9 sets of vehicles, but there hasn't been much testing recently.

*It's more likely Orange Stinger will NOT be rethemed with Victorian decor and will be permanently removed sooner or later. One of the two rides (Golden Zephyr or Orange Stinger) is supposed to be replaced with a lighthouse to serve as the projector tower for World Of Color.

*Monorail red (Mark VII) is being shipped back to Vancouver, I believe it might have already been sent back as it's not in the monorail shop and its not on the storage tracks. Monorail blue and Monorail orange are already being modified in Vancouver before they are shipped to California. For those who don't know, the new Mark VII monorail wasn't making turns due to a design error. Monorail crew says expect Monorail Red to be taking guests by summer with blue coming in fall and orange in the winter.

*A fourth hotel is being planned, I have no idea when it will be announced. If you're familiar with how the resort is set up, and you know where the transportation hub is, where all the buses and taxis come in, this area is being considered for the next hotel. As you know, Timon lot will be closing sometime this year so ground can be broken on Carsland, the rest of the parking lot will eventually filled in, presumably with a new parking structure or perhaps some new attractions for Phase 2 in Hollywood. This would also be home to the new transportation hub.

The new hotel would straddle both sides of the existing walkway into the esplanade from Harbor Blvd forming an archway and a courtyard before guests actually get to the esplanade. There's some artwork for this which I'm sure will be released if they finalize these plans.

Here's my 2 cent observation about what could be done with the Stinger.

Pain the globe to look like a planet, install in T-Land. Use white exterior for projections at night. Interior could be a star field.

I am looking forward to what eventually happens to DCA. It sounds like the are on the right track with Little Mermaid and Carsland.

WESTCOT

I know, I know, here I go again. Always bringing up the past. My attic seems to have something on every thread.

Remember when DCA was going to be WESTCOT? Well if not here is the article that talks all about it.

I have to pose the question, would it have been better? I honestly think Disney might have been in a worse postition if they had gone threw with this park concept....yawn

Looks like he's just a spud boy, looking for a real tomato. The Mr. Potato Head AA is great--a very nice touch for the ride. I understand that he's going to be "real-time" interactive with guests (sort of like Roz at Monsters Inc.)--but I might be mistaken.

Very fluid movements on Mr. Potato Head. Impressive. However, if he's using a mic, sound volume should change the several times he gestures away from his mouth. Minor presentation oops on a VERY well done bot. Can see him being like Mystic Fountain or Mystery Mine Buzzard.

I like potatoes. (well, somebody had to say it.)
