Mozart67 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 You're going to laugh, but my favorite drop is a 3-way tie: SROS SFNE (still there) Turn of the Century Great America (sort of there) Orient Express Worlds of Fun (long gone)
DCody Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Turn of the Century Great America (sort of there) My brother and I were just talking about how inexplicably good the drop on Turn of the Century/Demon is. Somehow it seems steeper and more air-timey than the average Arrow looper.
downunder Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Maybe not the best but one that surprised me was Gemini at Cedar Point (it was the first coaster I ever rode at the point, ah the memories).
nyr36 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Everything is in the back row, the only place to ride a coaster(don't hate) Wood: Boulderdash- feels like your being yanked around the trees El Toro. Wish I rode it before the lift was slowed down Cyclops- When your a$$ almost goes into the other seat, you know you're getting some serious air time. Steel: Maverick- Without a doubt best drop out there(that I have experienced) All others can GTFO Millenium Force- No explination required Behemoth-This one probably because of the generous workers at Wonderland Any Intamin hyper is going to have a sweet first drop.
PKI Jizzman Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Maybe not the best but one that surprised me was Gemini at Cedar Point (it was the first coaster I ever rode at the point, ah the memories). Agreed, dude. Gemini is one of my favorite coasters. I don't know why people give it so much crap. It's a smooth, fun, classic airtime fille ride!
downunder Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 ^The first drop was such a surprise on Gemini like whoah that was intense. Another one that impressed was Vortex at KI, I like how it had a straight drop rather than the curving one and how it didn't go straight into a loop after the drop.
coolhandluke Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 ^Agreed on Gemini being surprisingly good. I rode front row, and that first drop gave me more airtime than the entirity of MF. Vortex is a very solid one too, considering the point of the ride isn't the drop or airtime. Maverick currently holds my #1 spot, so I am really looking forward to seeing how the taller and steeper Fahrenheit matches up.
downunder Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 ^I didn't think Farehnheit was as good personally because it doesn't hit the drop at the speed Maverick does. I'm looking forward to the launched Eurofighter at Hansa Park, that might be a pretty good drop coming on the back of a 62mph launch.
dr.gumbo Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Best first drop for me has to be PMBO. By far the best part of the ride.
Cyber.Fiber Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I would have to say either Maverick or Behemoth both back seat. Such good rides...
davethefish Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Going from my experiences of this year alone, I like the drop just after the inverted lift hill on G-force and Drayton Manor. It's weird dropping upside down at an angle before you do anything else
coastered Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Really the only rollercoaster in the world that owns the first place for best first drop is Expedition GeForce.
MrX8991 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I'd say my three favorite in no particular order are Millennium Force (you're basically dropping for 5 seconds), Maverick (20 mph launch into 95 degree drop = lots of ), and Raging Bull for being very steep with a small tunnel at the bottom.
ebl Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I'll admit that I do need to get out more, but the first drop on X2 is...insane. Meanwhile, across the park, a great first drop awaits at Goliath as well. Eric
coasterguy618 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 No doubt Millennium Force, but Nitro in the back is pretty good.
ghost007jas Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 It's a toss up between X2 and Maverick for me. Both are completely mind blowing for completely different reasons.
FitchCoaster Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 The drop on X2 is the best drop I've been on. Looking straight at the ground, then instantly flipping onto your back at the bottom is such a rush. It's especially good in the back seats. Another personal favorite is the drop on SFMM's goliath. Looking down at the small tunnel, I'm always too chicken to keep my hands up once we reach the bottom of the drop. Plus, just slowly creeping over the top before the train drops is amazing.
atem122 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 ^ I agree, X2's drop (in the front) was probably one of the best experiences I've had in my life, however Goliath's drop doesnt quite do it for me since it levels out a quarter of the way down (say bye to any negative g's)
YFWE Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Millennium Force without a doubt for me... Maverick is certainly up there too.
AviatorCoaster Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Goliath is mine. That amazing drop. I always need someone to hold on to!
Thelegendarymatthew Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Dominator Its like Anacondas, but smoother!
coastercrzyjames Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I'd have to say X2 and SheiKra have the best steel coaster drops that I've been on. X2, like everyone said is CRAZY! I love being flipped head first before being forced onto my back last minute, so fun! Sheikra at BGA is also a good drop. Sure it isn't the tallest, but hanging over the edge of the drop before falling vertically is pretty cool! I also remember getting some good hangtime on the drop. Oh i'd also like to add in Tatsu and Deja Vu as honorable mentions. Tatsu's drop isnt the amazing part, i'd say the peak of the lift is what is awesome about it. Thats a pretty nice distance between you and the ground below at the crest, the view is nice. And Deja Vu's first lift was crazy, i remember I about died the first time I rode it!! Crazy good hang-time there, followed by a nice vertical drop. Yeah, I need to experience more though and maybe i'd have some better answers .
