What is it with Cedar Point and fires this year?

Electrical blaze at CP, 50 evacuated

The Sandusky Fire Department responded to Cedar Point just before 3 p.m. Wednesday to a transformer fire.

Smoke could be seen from the park's webcam at Top Thrill Dragster. Firefighters had to evacuate 50 people from nearby buildings. No major fire damage occurred, but there was smoke damage.

^No, that can not be it. That site is all about talk and no action....Christ, they can barely organize a monthly get together to bitch in person to each other. How the hell would they ever organize three fires? Here I am at them again though, good entertainment over there.

Are you accusing me of being a spy? If I had an issue with a post or poster on this site I'm not going to run over to GLT and post it there. There are some people over there who haven't totally gotten over the whole ordeal, yes three years later, but I have and I've moved on.

Now back to our regularly scheduled topic.

He was using sarcasm, try not to take everything so seriously....

No, not you actually!

Someone on GLT put that on the end of one of his posts, meaning people would ridicule him from other sites for saying something negative about Cedar Fair. I was merely using him as an example of a negative stereotype of what we might think of GLT members. I said 'I just did that!' because he was almost asking for it.

Sorry for the confusion, Geauga Dog!

^^It's all good.

I do have a sense of humor but sometimes a joke goes a little too far and gets old too quick, i.e. Prince Desmond, and it seems that GL is always being picked on for some reason, even when it was still a living, breathing amusment park.

I don't think the Intamin cable joke will ever get old.

Prince Desmond was making fun of the plan to save Big Dipper, not Geauga Lake.

Did not mean to hit a hot nerve, I have nothing against the park. I grew up around 2 hours from the park and went there often as a kid. I liked it, not as much as Cedar Point or Kennywood though. It is an easy target right now for two reasons.

1. The very amateur handling of the “save the big dipper” thing. I think it is great that someone is trying to save it. However, the wrong person is the one that stepped up.

2. The most active people of the GLT site are way far out there with the conspiracy theory and such. I mean some of the things over there posted are just down right unbelievable….It is hard to believe that some of then are out of high school. There are few posters over there that actually make sense. Cuddy is one of them and he seems to be the outcast. From the sounds of your position, you may also be one of them.

I think it the park was closed for the following and was just the victim of a bunch of bad circumstances.

After Six Flags did what they did to it. It was hard to come back from that, but not imposable by no means. Six Flags tried throwing in multiple coasters and sucked and the overall customer experience. Hence, why there is a whole new crew in charge of that company now. Cedar Fair saw their chance to get the park and kill this competition. No one can blame them, that is what business‘s do. However, I do not believe their initial intentions were to do what they ended up doing. They for one did not understand the importance of the wildlife side. They also got themselves in over their heads with Paramount acquisition. They saw the writing on the wall after that acquisition and I think that is when they pulled the plug on redeveloping the park. Notice, they also tried to dump a few other parks and the company as whole. They would by no means sell this park that would defeat the purpose of why they bought it.

Given all this and the fact that the townships were hard to deal with and hated the park for some reason, why is there any question why the park is were it is today? Why do these people think Dick was just sitting around creating some Penguin style scheme from the beginning? I believe they wanted to reduce the park as a competition and run it similar to Waldameer. It just turned out management for Cedar Fair could not produce this, or at least produce it after they got in the Paramount deal. If they really wanted to eliminate competition through acquisition, then they would have closed Kings Island. However, they were dumb enough to add the same ride to the same parks this coming up year in such close proximity. They also tried to relocate an Intamin 1st gen drop ride to Knott’s after Magic Mountain took theirs out. How the hell were they going to market that one? Come to Knott’s to ride our new ride that is so old in experience the park up the street took theirs out.

Again, sorry to offend. Again, I am not trying to attack GL the park directly. Just some of the bone heads that are up front and center.

I know this is veering off-topic but I really wish I had gotten a chance to visit GL. I was considering either GL or Dorney for a weekend trip and I went with Dorney just because it was a bit closer. A week or so later the announcement for closure happened and I kicked myself.

This is kind of off the original topic, but I am seriously the only person on TPR that doesn't like Maverick? I mean, Maverick HURTS (curse those over-banked turns). I can only ride it once per CP trip and the only reason I even bother to ride it is because I'm at the park. Even though I did not enjoy the ride in '07, a friend of mine told me it was much better in '08 (they didn't really like it in '07 either), but I didn't notice a difference. When this was under construction, I couldn't WAIT to ride it, but after getting off that first ride, I was utterly disappointed. Is there anyone else on TPR sharing my opinion?

I don't hate Maverick... but I don't like it either. It did hurt and there was nothing really redeeming because to enjoy it I had to cement myself in place.

I was kind of under the impression that most twisty coasters hurt in their own way. To be honest, the only problem with Maverick is the restraint. There are ways of riding it to avoid being hurt, you just have to know how to do it.
