Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

p. 2030 - Top Thrill 2 announced!

Recommended Posts

Nah its not bad at all. Not usually at least.

I'll be there the 12-14th- anyone else headed over?

Hey everybody, some of my friends and I (four of us all together) are going to be taking a trip to Cedar Point sometime soon, probably in June. We want to be able to do everything though as we live far away and will probably not be back. Does anybody have any tips for how we should ensure ourselves the chance to ride everything, or places to stay, or times to go? Any help would be appreciated, thank you very much.

Usually Ill get there as it opens, right then. I go in a line starting right- it varies sometimes.

I'll get the smaller ones out of the way first, in order. WT, Bluestreak, Raptor if the lines below 30 which at that point its a toss up). Move down the midway to ID, Mantis, then go back to Corkscrew, PT, Dragster if the lines under 45, Magnum, Gemini, Meanstreak, CFMR/Maverick. Maverick will take some time. Then keep looping to millennium, mantis if you didn't do it before, etc. I spend most of my time between MF and Mantis after I make the full loop, depending on time which I theres usually plenty of, I might loop backwards again and hit a few favorites. Then I head back down the main midway and get raptor if I didnt before, then Gatekeeper.

I've been doing it like this for years (without gatekeeper, clearly) and its proved to give me plenty of time to double up on quite a few things. Usually I'll triple up on mantis and double MF or Magnum at the middle/back of the park. Then double GK if time allows at the end of the day. I always go monday or thursday as well, never saturday the place will be a total madhouse. Another good bet is to leave the coasters out in the first round that have lots of food places around them, specifically raptor and MF to an extent. Around dinner time the links deteriorate considerably, so save a favorite for that as well.

Game Plan: Once again, this variable completely depends upon your budget as well long you are staying. It is very easy to accomplish everything major in two days at Cedar Point WITHOUT Fast Lane. However, if you are going only one day, Fast Lane Plus is your friend to do anything and everything. If you can't afford Fast Lane basic or plus, you can still hit a lot of the coasters, maybe just not all of them. Here is a basic plan if you are staying only one WEEKDAY: hit Maverick first thing in the morning, followed by Millennium, and maybe TTD depending on the line, then check on Magnum and Gemini and try to ride those two. Now advance your way to the front of the park and by mid-afternoon, hit Gatekeeper and Raptor. You can also do maXair and Wicked Twister while you're over here. I left out Mantis mainly because I really do not enjoy it, but you may if you like Standups.

So in summary, your don't misses are: TTD, Maverick, Millennium, Raptor, Gatekeeper, Magnum, Gemini, Wicked Twister, maXair, Cedar Downs (awesome carousel, trust me), Blue Streak

If anyone else has anything to add to this, please feel free to chime in and correct me

Your suggested game plan of starting at the back with Maverick and Millennium Force is spot on. This way, you knock out the longest potential waits and can decide later whether to revisit or not. As you alluded to, Gatekeeper and Raptor will typically be down to a pretty modest wait by 4pm or so - at this point the front entrance patrons are making their way towards the back of the park. It is not uncommon for Raptor to be a walk-on at this point (except peak season) so go crazy.

The only must-ride you missed is Skyhawk in my opinion. Awesome flat with great airtime on the swings. Windseeker is cool enough if the wait isn't too bad, although I realize these are popping up at numerous parks so probably not essential.

"Edge of Seventeen" is available on Netflix instant again. Great "coming out" story about a kid that's working at Cedar Point (Crystal Waters in the movie) in 1984. I worked there 91-93, and they really got the feel of the era right (plus or minus a few years). There are shots of the park, in the park, etc. It was shot after Raptor, which you can see in the movie.

You seem like a pretty credible source so I can't wait!

Sarcasm for the win!!!! But really though it just makes me think that Raptor backwards would be really, really cool, yet not if it stayed that way forever.

Raptor needs more theming. Play music that fits a bird of prey, the sound of the bird, all black trains, with a hint of yellow maybe fake trees in the que line with shaded tents maybe a giant bird egg maybe? And you all will regret your weak sarcasm when their announce comes later in the Summerscreen shot ansd book mark me!!!!!!

Raptor needs more theming.

Arguably, most rides at Cedar Point could go for more theming. However, I don't think that is their goal with the coasters. Cedar Point provides Roller Coasters that deliver on thrill, and they build massive queues to accommodate the crowds. They're really not going after the "Disney" market.

Correct, I just think smallike that adds to the ride Banshee isn't heavily themed but

Same with GK. in a perfect world I could see Gemini being transformed by RMC or paint the tracks blue n red at least

I don't see this ever happening.

RMC of course not, painting the tracks? Why not? the tracks look so dull

Adding (or designing from the start) things like trenches and tunnels (and perhaps a pre-lift section) aren't necessarily theming. Those things make a ride better, a little more world-class in my book. Some of that would be nice.

But it seems building HUGE coasters in dirt fields works for em. Whatever

I'll take a dirt field coaster over a loud parking lot coaster any day.

It's really all about the little things here and there that make or break a park to me. This is wonderful.

Is the rest of the midway getting paved as well? (upper right)

I have to say, the new Gemini midway area looks absolutely fantastic!! This stretch really did need a freshening up/overhaul, and it now looks a hundred times better. Everything looks so clean and vibrant, and the 2 new rides both look great! I've yet to ride a flat (yes, I used the right word.... ) like Pipe Scream, but it looks like it would deliver a cool ride.

A B&M WILL CHANGE FOREVER IN 2015 STAY TUNED.......HE IS COMING FOR A REVENGE

Well not that this is a super reliable source. But I'd like to see some of the new restraints on Banshee put into raptor or something along these lines. Not a big change, but a little touch up.
