  1. It wouldnt just be "another hyper" though. Look at Holiday World. They have two world class woodies, both go through the woods and both are insane but both are completely different. Now look at The Voyage. Its a monster in comparison and while the others are more twister layouts, its a traditional out and back (well, if the tunnels + turns are traditional). Theres many ways to skin a cat, or in this case, build a hyper.
  2. Over 50 rides and I still cant catch a roll back. Ive tried in the rain, in the wind, in the cold, in the heat - nearly every single combination Ive been there in line, just for the rollback. I even sat 2 trains away and watched a SINGLE train roll back THREE times before making it over. Such, such a rip off. Life just isnt fair.
  3. This thing is ancient. I remember watching this back when I first had the internet - not cable! Of all the imposters out there, this one tops em all. Im amazed that anyone bought into his act. There was an old one of him running across the set and each time he took a step he farted, it was histerical. I still cant find it too this day.
  4. I cant wait to see what The Voyage does to these polls...
  5. Wow, the one girl is the same age as my girlfriend. Thats scary. A few of them you wouldnt think were hookers if you just saw them around. However everyones priorities are different I suppose....
  6. That line reminded me of Jeff Foxworthy... Anyways, I am happy that I have a four day weekend! Tomorrow I'm heading over to MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) for that new Bodies exhibit. Somone is a Blue Collar Comedy fan
  7. Here is my breakdown: CCI/GG - Its all in the supports. They use a stair-step approach and its easily identifiable. No other rides feature this unique setup. http://www.real-coasters.com/images/gallery/Holiday%20World/Legend/slides/IMG_1752.html http://www.real-coasters.com/images/gallery/Holiday%20World/Legend/slides/IMG_1731.html http://www.real-coasters.com/images/gallery/Geauga%20Lake/Villain/slides/IMG_1494.html http://www.real-coasters.com/images/gallery/Michigans%20Adventure/slides/IMG_0428-2.html GCI - They use some spectacular fan-style supports on all of their rides. The taller or more forceful, the more it fans out. Plus they are the only ones to use the Millennium Flyer trains http://www.coastergallery.com/2002/DW15.html http://www.coastergallery.com/2002/DW14.html http://www.coastergallery.com/2003/CC08.html Dinn and Summers - They used a combination of fan and stair step structure. It steps down similar to CCI but its sloped far more. They also use sections of angled supports like on the Texas Giant photo mid-way on the lift. http://www.ridezone.com/parks/oh/cedarpoint/cp20.htm http://www.rcdb.com/ig2.htm?picture=1
  8. The first Intamin Mega coaster hit the scene in 1999. The first B&M Mega coaster hit the scene in 1999. Cedar Fairs installations by year: Magnum XL-200 : 1989 Mamba : 1998 Steel Force : 1997 Wild Thing : 1996 Yes, Mamba is only a year away from Intamins installation but obviously Intamin didnt make themselves known to Cedar Fair because I really think they would have went with them. I think the reason is that they built their hypers before B&M or Intamin made their models known.
  9. Didnt know that was yours. It is nice to see someone else took the same idea I had. I knew I had to do it because of its massive size and length. How pictures was yours? Mine was comprised of 9 pictures taken from a tripod smack in the middle of the lot.
  10. So much reflection I can almost make out the person taking the picture of you. haha
  11. I definatly think some prayers need to go to the ride op. I remember reading some xangas of the people who worked on SFNE SROS when it had its accident and they were seriously messed up. The report of the op from this one sounds just the same. Imagine if YOU were operating a ride youve probably operated hundreds, maybe thousands of times and someone gets flung from it. Youd be pretty histerical and I bet it messes with your mind afterwards.
  12. My picture was done last year in 04 That and I include the helix and turn around. the stitching on that isnt the greatest either, though I paid for a program to do it for me since if Im going to take panoramas I want something to do it right.
  13. Its all in the supports. Each manufacturer has a unique way to support a ride that is akin to them and them only. Its a way to identify themselves apart from everyone else.
  14. Because enthusiasts think its what the cool kids do or something.. There are bad SF parks, but then there are good and even a couple of great ones. People just generalize the whole chain as being bad when in fact its not. Ding ding ding! We have a winner!
  15. ST is awesome in the back. Apparently when it first opened and wasnt nearly as rough there was pure floater in the front seat over every hill, even in the return run. However with the tracking going bad over the last couple years the trains lose alot of speed. Though, if you ride in the back seat there is INSANE ejector on every hill going out. Coming back in the airtime isnt as intense but its alot of floater with the trick-track and then the great helix. Its 4 hours from me which sucks, but I make the trek once a year. Its worth it. BTW - I dont think anyones taken this picture yet http://www.real-coasters.com/images/gallery/Michigans%20Adventure/slides/shiveringtimberspano.html
  16. You mean this is what happens when you build your city and park BELOW sea level NEXT to the ocean?
  17. Badnitrus's renderings are just that. Renderings. He uses some script when I talked to him to do automatic velocity stuff within 3d Studio Max but its only approximate. I would think that it will take the hills a bit faster than what it showed there because overall the video felt sluggish. However, I could be proven wrong. If it takes the hill as fast or faster than Nitro it should be a blast.
  18. ST in its earlier days, maybe. But if youve been to IB and ridden Cornball after 10pm the thing has ridiculous airtime. Ive never been slammed into buzzbars that hard before on several of the hills, its quite insane. However I agree with the HW statement - next year the only 2 parks I think that would stand out would be Mt. Olympus and HW. What a collection between the two.
  19. Most coasters consist of mostly air. Most columns are round which is great for wind tolerance. Same for the track. If they can withstand the pounding of vertical and lateral forces exerted on them daily then they can handle winds whistling about them. Really, think about the air dynamics as it goes around the tracks and supports. I bet they survive quite well actually.
  20. Yea the conversion rate is incredible. Its why most all UK people Ive spoken too at parks and on planes say they love coming over here because its dirt cheap.
  21. Talon isnt a slouch but its slightly tamer. However, its a more complete ride and I found it VERY enjoyable. Hydra has the best Zero G I have ever been on and Talon is a very close 2nd. They both are as close to pure floating airtime as Ive felt on a Zero G. Hydras is almost perfect and Talons is right behind it. Reguardless, they are still excellent coasters. Id love to have them near me, especially Hydra. Its just alot of fun.
  22. Im a cancer but believe that it has nothing to do with your personality. You are who your parents bring you up to be combined with who you choose to be later in life. I think alot of people read these and start to subconsiously form the same opinions. Because frankly, Ive taken a ton of those "tests" and I end up contradicting them all. Not one has actually identified me like it predicts it should based on factors such as when I was born, etc. Astrology is funny.
  23. Offtopic, but Relient K is not only cool, they are awesome.
  24. Personally I would rather see their new drop towers. Demon Drop is a good drop ride, far superior to Power Tower in EVERY way possible. But it has had better days and I think a far better ride could take its place. Plus Geauga Lake has one that I doubt wont go anywhere - especially since it was down all last year for rehab to open this year.
  25. Well said, I agree with most of it. Holiday World employees are scarily happy but alot of it is just that almost all of them that I met LOVE their job. So you know they are treated right and they enjoy the workplace and when that happens, you get happy employees. Magnum is a top 10 coaster, not sure on top 3. I might place it top 5. Thunderhead ISNT a #1 but its darn close. Its an incredible twister that has airtime and laterals as well as one of the crazier layouts out there. Oh well. They seem a bit better than past years. One more BIG thing to add to that: They list "Best kids area" and I know they mean a specific kids area but as for the BEST park to take kids too...its Holiday World all the way. Along with staff being amazing and the conditions pristine, theres no smoking but in designated areas which people obey (first time I ever saw that) theres modest dress codes and great rules. We were completely amazed that we heard virtually no cussing, saw no spitting, saw little smoking (what was was done where it should have been) and overall an amazing experience. I totally would take kids to the park. I would definatly rather take them there than Disney. Disney is a far cry from the wholesome values of HW and the amazing place they run. THATS for sure.
