P. 796 - Ride closing 10/30 to remove launch and install chain lift!

Recommended Posts

^That's a good point. Looks like the rumors of thing thing being a giant are just about confirmed. After seeing X-Flight's layout, I'm getting a whole lot more excited for this thing. I was kind of bummed that Raptor wasn't as intense as expected, but it looks like they were simply making baby steps with that one, and each successive design that has been announced has been getting wilder.

I'm just glad we can finally confirm that this is a wing-walker.

Got a message from PR today-

On September 4, THIS SUNDAY, Dollywood’s 2012 expansion secret will be revealed! It’s the biggest announcement we’ve ever made and will take place in an explosive fashion at Boomsday in Knoxville, TN around 9:30 p.m. EST! We will be giving you the inside scoop on THE MOST EXPENSIVE addition to Dollywood in its history! There’s a chance to win a prize simply by texting what you see that includes MEETING DOLLY PARTON!! If you can’t be in Knoxville on Sunday, watch it locally on Channel 10-WBIR or visit Dollywood2012.com for a live stream! It’s a unique attraction that you’ll have to HEAR about, SEE and visit Dollywood in 2012 to experience to even believe!!!!!! The Sky is NOT the limit!

Not Sure if it was for media (As I'm on the list and it did look like an email from them) Or if it was just a message sent out to anyone who signed up on the 2012 Attraction website.

Okay, it's confirmed that it's a WingRider, now. Is it gonna rotate? I would say yes.

Why would you say that? If B&M offered rotating seats at this point, I'm sure the other Wing-Walkers that have been announced would have them. It's just as well anyway - rotating seats make it a whole different ride and are just another thing to break down. This thing will be plenty thrilling enough.

If coaster designers had that mentality they would never introduce new things because "its just another thing to break down".

If it was spinning seats the track indicates they would spin freely like a Zacspin unless they have developed a different way to have controlled seat rotation. First in America could be anything, such as the tallest inversion for this type of ride like, say, a vertical loop. This thing is looking more and more interesting and I can't wait to find out what it is exactly.

I Think It will have spinning seats. Dollywood said it'd be a 1st in America and Spinning Seats-Wing Walker is a 1st in America.

No. If Pepsi (S&S Arrow, X) and RC Cola (Intamin, Green Lantern) already had vanilla colas (4D Coasters) in America, then Coke (B&M) could not claim that their forthcoming vanilla cola is the first in America. Just because it's Coke, and it would probably be better than RC and Pepsi- the concept has been around for years.

Further, the fact that it is Coke might mean a lot to Cola Enthusiasts, but would not make an iota of difference to the typical person ordering at a restaurant, as they probably can't even tell the difference between the 3.

Did it say "first in America" or "one of the first in America"? Cause I think I saw something from SFGAm about X-Flight being the first announced coaster.

First Theme Park in the U.S. to Announce Plans to Build State-of-the-Art Wing Coaster

Gurnee, Ill. (September 1, 2011) – Get ready to take flight! Six Flags Great America announces plans to add a state-of-the-art roller coaster for the 2012 season. X-Flight is a ground-breaking wing coaster featuring cutting-edge technology. The Gurnee theme park is the first to announce plans for a wing coaster in the U.S.

So, meaning that this attraction could be the second announced coaster like X-Flight, a non-rotating B&M Wingrider.

Spinning seats would be a surprise, it seems like a big leap in the current technology. I don't see B&M going 4D in the same year they went 300 feet. I think with the awesome potential visuals on WE it would be better to have standard trains. It would be cool to have a little of both as long as I don't have to build it or take care of it.

They HAVE posted one last picture of the top of a loop! I would post it, but it wouldnt let me save it to my computer. I am really excited and can't wait until tomorrow's announcement! That is the only way to know the true plans, for Dollywood's New rollercoaster attraction!

The image I got was the same as what was posted previously.
