Thrillrider15
I was just wondering if sitting on the left side, or the right side of a roller coaster makes a big difference or not. For example: on Top Thrill Dragster. On the spiral drop. the people sitting on the left side will be pressed down in their seat. The people on the right side however, will be pressed against the lap bar. Anyone else find out about this? Top Thrill Dragster
Carnage
I'm not following your example. I've found TTD to feel exactly the same in either seat. The vast majority of rides would make no difference. The main type of rides that I can see a difference on would be B&M inverts, etc where there is a wider train. robbalvey
The only ride I can really think of is X. That inside seats produces a MUCH smoother ride than the outside. Otherwise, most other rides I've been on it doesn't seem to matter much. --Robb
WalrusMan
Well, on the coasters I've been on, all I can say are these: Top Gun @ PGA - Ride on the left, closer to the water on the ending helix. Giant Dipper @ SCBB - Ride on the right, get thrown into the padded side of the car instead of the unpadded seat divider. Hurricane @ SCBB - Ride on the right, get a little pop of air when going on "The Turn."
waterviper
Pretty much the only 2 coaster to me that comes to mind that makes a big differences is yes Robb X. Its like a whole new ride almost! The other one is Flashback. Because of the design of the drops if you sit on the far left or far right you get the freefall effect and get wipped around the corners depending on the corners. For example If you are on the far right side of the train and going thru the first drop turn, you dont get whipped around and get that freefall feeling as you would if you were on the far left. Plus there was some wicked head choppers on Flashback!! So its a different ride on both sides. Its also a different ride if you sit in the middle two seats aswell. You dont get as much extreme action like you do on the ends!
ECZenith
I don't know why (not so much anymore) I usually tend to sit on the right side of a coaster train, if given the option... Usually to avoid the staircase on the left on Intamin mega coasters. I like to look straight down.
DATman
SCREAM! is a BIG difference seat-wise. If you want to be whipped around the turns (I personally LOVE this), you want to go on the right. If you don't, go on the left.
USRoadTripper
The only one I can think of where I could tell a difference was Kennywood's Jackrabbit. Because the fixed position lap bar has a notch in it to allow people to get in and out of the train easier, the right side of the train has a little less lap bar in front of it. Not a huge difference, but there *was* a difference (better when sitting on the right). -Julie
Scaparri
I can think of a few rides where I sort of prefer a certain side, and if given the chance, will ride on that side, but it's not something so significant that I'm disappointed if I don't get it. B&Ms and any other 4-wide coaster are the only coasters I know of where there is a noticeable difference in the ride. It's still usually not terribly significant as far as the quality of the ride goes.
Hadhafang
SCREAM! is a BIG difference seat-wise. If you want to be whipped around the turns (I personally LOVE this), you want to go on the right. If you don't, go on the left. Yeah, sitting on the right side is sweet, especially during the Barrel Roll.....it feels like you're gonna FALL OUT!!!

CoasterCrazy
I don't care if I seat on the right or left!
nannerdw
I think that on Ninja @ SFOG, sitting on one certain side will make you closer to most of the headchoppers. Also, I like to sit on the very left on Georgia Scorcher. It makes the banked camelback right before the corkscrew so much better, since you are up six or seven feet higher than the person on the far right. socalMAN123
Only difference I can spot out is like DATMan, Scream. If you're sitting on the left side, it won't be quite as intense. But if you're on the right side, you'll be hanging over every single turn which makes for one insane ride. ---Brent 8)
BiCoastal Kid
On some rides it can make a difference. If you sit on the right side of the train on GA Scorcher you get to stand the whole time, but the left side offers some pretty awesome pops of air! coasterboy76
Screamin Eagle -- SFSTL-- always sit on the left side, have always done that ever since I was a kid..Im sure that seems strange to some, but I like the way the car moves on a couple specific turns.. and I don't feel it on the right side. other than that, it doesn't matter to me where I sit on a coaster, I have fun wherever I sit! dougr
Coaster at PNE-almost all the turns are to the right, so the larger person sits on the left. If you start out alone on the right, you WILL end up on the left. I just save the time and stay left.
Guest
Beemers are more forceful to the right of the train. You do notice it most on Kumba. Intamins, well I don't know and nor do I care, LOL. Volares you sit on the inside, the outsides are brutal. Vekomas well it doesn't matter you will get banged no matter where you sit. But on the flyers, I like sitting in the last 4 seats the loop is much better. So I guess for me it depends on what coaster.
Devious
the only time i ever really noticed a huge difference was on storm runner, the right side has a lot of air on the tophat & rolls, on most others though, it doesnt really make much difference to me anyway
haux
I noticed that Raptor's first drop is much better on the right than on the left (in the back), but you get some negative Gs on the left when you exit the zero-G roll. B&Ms are pretty much the only coasters that really make a difference. Mostly, it's heading down the first drop where that difference is. I prefer to sit on the opposite side the drop turns. It's more forceful. X is different in every seat you sit in. I prefer the outside on the left in the luge turn because you get killer laterals in it. Eagle Rider
If you ever ride the Boss, which you may not because SFSTL isn't a park most people feel compelled to visit, sit on the right side in the front seat for some extra air (thanks for the tip negative G) otherwise the left side really seems rougher. My daughter agrees. She won't sit on the left unless I'm too bruised and make her.
Blazen_AZN
i only feel a difference on scream. in addition to being whipped around on the right side, if you sit in the middle two seats in the zero-g roll, you get a weightless feeling, on the outside seats, you get whipped to the side. id assume its the same on all four seat zero-g rolls. coasterdude5
Yeah, for some reason, I always get on first (the right side) I guess I'm so anxious to get on. But on Raging Bull, I always sit on the farthest seat right. I just love being able to hang my foot over the edge in that over-banked turn. ebl
I like the left front seat. It's like I'm driving the train! Eric
CoasterExpert13
I love the Left Front Seat, whenever I ride Phantom's Revenge or Millennium Force...I ride in the left, because I get more feeling out of the bank curves on both rides.....Depends on the rider and/or coaster.. B&M's..I love the Left 2nd Front Seat...like being in the middle cause you get to see everything coming at you from both side.
