larson super loop

Recommended Posts

Since parks seem to be building larson flying scooters and super loops like crazy, why not take the super loop to the next level. The 22m super loop is what, 72ish feet tall? Why not make a 61 meter one for a 200 foot tall super loop. Since the circle of the loop would be larger it should be able to hold 32-40 people. I know people here hate super loops, but I think a 200 foot tall one towering over a midway would look cool. just my .02

I believe in a TR of a tour of their facilities there was some mention of a larger version that is not yet available. I forget the exact size or where I heard mention of this, but I think it was somewhere around 140 ft.

Honestly, a double sized Larson Loop would get me really excited! It would be so visually impressive and take it from being compared to a carnival ride to being a star attraction at a park.

^ Six flags would prly buy one and advertise worlds tallest loop for a roller coaster

But I think the visual impact of a 200 foot tall super loop would be great. Most parks don't even have a roller coaster that tall, let alone a non windseeker/drop tower flat ride

^You know they would!

The SFOG marketing manager was joking about the "coaster" part of the park's new Larson Loop

I agree though, one in the 120-200 foot range would look pretty iconic in a park and I feel like it would impress the public more than many new coaster types would.

I still don't get how this is a coaster. A powered coaster maybe?

Yeah, by my book (which means nothing I guess except for me) it's not a coaster.

RCDB doesn't seem to consider it one either.

Shame my home parks last new ride was 4 years ago, and our next is just a carnival ride

^ I think it would look something like the crazy machines from the movie Contact... I always thought that movie would be translated well into a theme park ride, just a couple decades too late!

I was thinking the same thing.

"Why build one when you can have two at twice the price?"

^Lol

I personally cannot stand Super Loops. Hate the things so for me this would be an absolute no go!

I actually don't enjoy super loops all too much myself (the hangtime seems really unnerving... possibly because I've only done the portable versions where you can't always trust the restraints lol). However, that being said, a giant one would just look pretty damn cool, and sooner or later, a park probably will build one. Why they haven't already, I don't know. The park models are only about 10-20' taller, which IMO really doesn't make sense, and it's not like they don't have the technology to build a larger one (just look at their hubless wheels and how huge they can get!).

Now, on a slightly different note (but not completely off topic). I remember reading a few years back that Larson had plans for a wingrider super loop in addition to the giant one that started this thread. Haven't found any info on it anymore. Anyone know if the plans for this are still in the works?

At least RCDB is on my side.

Don't forget about Zumanjaro - the World's tallest drop ride.

^ I will repeat what I said, in that thread, on May 30, 2011...

...But I still don't like those ringOfire things. Evil evil evil. Ick. IMhO.

But who knew we were being fore-warned about these SUPERSIZEring-a-dings taking over, so many years ago?

D'oh!

  • 1 year later...

Can someone explain to me why Six Flags has been buying so many Super Loops and adding them to its parks? I've been on El Diablo at Six Flags Great Adv. Personally for me, it's nothing special. It feels like a super cheap version of a coaster, carnival style. It adds nothing to their list of awesome coasters. I also fear that they will be adding this ride to my home park, La Ronde.

I know they promote them as a "coaster," but are they buying them because they're cheaper and take less space? Maybe trying to reduce spending, especially considering the financial difficulties they've had in the past?

How popular are these rides with the general public? Do they even care if people like them or not?

Also, where did the idea of adding 4d coasters come from and how did they get so popular? This, too, feels like a low end version of a modern coaster, even though it's something new.

I'm assuming innovative and big coasters are too expensive and take too much space, so they want to entertain their audience with these types of rides.

Of course, this is my personal opinion, but I have a strong feeling that they'll be eventually adding these two rides at La Ronde, considering the limited space, which is really dreadful for a theme park / coaster fanatic!
