IAAPA 2013 Trade Show - TPR's Official Report!

Recommended Posts

Thanks TPR for such great IAAPA coverage...It's like Christmas for Amusement Park News. Great new concepts from a lot of companies. I love that we're getting different kinds of coasters like a 500ft El Loco. Why argue what it is called or if it has to be an Intamin or B&M traditional coaster or not...Who cares what it is...Just build it and let me ride it already! Love the news...Keep it coming!

Wow, this is so cool! Is there any more information on the 500ft coaster going into Orlando? Only an hour and a half from where I live!

Did I miss something or do we know it is Orlando for sure? While a good guess would be Orlando, somewhere like Daytona or Miami wouldn't surprise me.

Did anyone notice this shuttle coaster in the background at the end of GCI's new video?

If that is Sidewinder, then you can see Sport Authority Field in the background as well, which is directly next to Elitch Gardens.

Is it going where Flying Coaster was?

Looks like it from what I know of the park and what is shown in the video

Did anyone see a Cigar Smoking Frog hopping around the Garner Holt booth? He would be about 2-3 feet tall, green, wears a bowler hat and plays the piano.

Seems like Cedar Fair and Garner Holt have pretty solid partnership going on right now.

Well, it happened again...IAAPA started and I got distracted from my school work . Seriously, other than reports from TPR tours this is the coverage I look forward to most every year. It sounds like there are some interesting concepts this year. I always love GCI's ideas, even if they aren't the most innovative, and it's neat to see them branching out a bit from the standard twister designs they've become known for. The Mack Splash and Drop also looks like a great family water ride...perhaps Knott's will be getting one in Camp Snoopy next year (also related to Knott's, Garner Holt redoing the Calico Mine Ride will be the do not miss for So Cal next year). I can't wait for the video interviews, as those tend to be quite interesting.

Also, at the assumptions the Switchback is going to Elitch Gardens. I remember similar thoughts when the one that used SFFT as the backdrop premiered. Not saying it won't happen, but GCI does these concept videos every year and I don't think one has been built yet. Then again, there are rumors that Lake Monster is being done by GCI and the same company owns both Darien Lake and Elitch Gardens...

A few quick notes.

- I want those coaster cars. Who do I have to pay to snag one of those? The Goliath and Coastersaurus trains are definitely badass. I'll settle for a Smiler or Proslide model if the trains are out of the question.

- Observation coasters are such a great idea. I'm glad more parks are opting for them.

- One of those plush beer mugs would look great next to my plush banana.

- I'll believe Elitch Gardens gets a new GCI after Fiesta Texas builds their Aeroplane clone. That design still looks sweet.

- Did Intamin really serve alcohol at their bar setup? That's pretty awesome (and a good way to get potential clients )

- Can't wait for the interviews portion.

A few notes I have:

-The new Mack water ride looks to have great theme potential, but the overall ride looks a little boring.

-All the new coaster trains look great!

-I'd love it if manufacturers sold models of coasters! I'd be into collecting those. (but who wouldn't? )

-In the photo of that one company's display I noticed pictures of the sheriff guy from RSR and the Ariel ride. Doesn't Disney build all of their own AA's?

Most booths serve some kind of beverage... especially later in the day when business turns more social (the last hour is usually the best...!).

Disney builds very little in house these days so I would guess what you saw is correct. Generally it appears that most is in-house because they usually are pretty strict (or so I hear) about letting other companies say they did work for Disney.

I wouldn't say most, but a lot of the major ones do. I believe Premier was the first one to do this at this show about 10 years back, and then a lot of others followed suit. Premier and Intamin have a really nice offering of drinks.

Garner Holt was involved with Racers at Disneyland, they helped with the animations for the ride.
