So how big a drop in attendance do you all think the park will have this season?

They still have the new flash opening. I really don't think most people care about the rest of the rides and it's not like most were even open last year.

Will people travel in for the park? Probably not but it's always been a regional park anyway so I don't think attendance is gonna be that different.

It's still the best local park in this area.

Well considering their brand new coaster will probably have an hourly capacity of 300 knowing them, a dip this year may not be a bad thing.

What they need is a giga coaster with no launch, something RELIABLE and high capacity!!

My ignorant from the outside looking in perspective thinks this would be a great investment. It certainly seemed to work out well for other parks. It transformed CW, and KI has been packed to the point of unenjoyment during our last few Haunt visits.

That's my impression too is that the new management believes they can make Great Adventure into a park with the quality of KI, CW, and Carowinds but it will take some work (and removing half the park). If that is a case then a B&M Giga would surely be in the plans I would think. This park has plenty of room to build a great one like Fury (then again so did KI...) so fingers crossed that we're headed down that road in the next 5-10 years.

This park may take a few years longer to clean up at first than KI, etc did, so there will be growing pains. Especially considering a lot of the maintenance in this park has been jaw droppingly bad. Literally.

  • 2 weeks later...

Is Flash actually open? Finally! Lessgo! I skipped this park last year waiting for this to open. It looks good. The capacity is going to be an absolute nightmare but I plan to go during an off season weekday.

I really do think long term the single biggest winner of the merger will be this park.

I hope so. I don’t say it to be an edgelord it’s honestly sad to me as a NJer this park needs some major TLC. It’s sad to have seen its slow decline over time, good rides aside, so I do hope it’ll finally get the investment it needs. It is, supposedly, one of the major parks in the chain and often Id choose to drive to Hershey instead. So I do hope you’re right!

^ I saw that, too.  Great Adventure is talking a big game about 2026, but for all we know it could be breaking the record for longest wacky worm.  The thing that gives me pause about that article is that there are no facts, no evidence, just "i know a guy who said this thing."

Also it states that they're in contact with various amusement companies and waiting on the right bidder, so that means it's a concept that's about to become as real as Orlando's Polercoaster.

Yeah when I was waiting for Jersey Devil when it was down the one guy said something new was replacing Ka. I inquired and he claimed it would be record breaking "the park wants the height record back" I said that one in Saudi Arabia is I think over 600 feet and he shrugged "I dont know, just they say it will retake the record" while I've gotten some legit insight from park employees before needless to say that one....yeeah not gunna bank on it LOL That said, seeing a big open area was not just weird but made me realize how much space was there. Whatever is going there it can certainly be something big.

So I knew there was risk going opening day, (esp with a new ride) but it was too nice the weather, and my schedule won't have a weekday I could take off until May so why not? Got a pass, can go anytime and bail if the day is bust.
.....Kinda was. Even going in knowing "OK ops will not be great, there will be rides down, various issues, rides have been removed etc" it was still kinda rough. A lot of food places/stalls weren't even open, ops were indeed rough(er than I prepared for) and except Nitro and maybe Batman I think everything went down once. And of course the biggie: Flash.... was going down basically all day. Not streaky, but like every 4 rides going down. At one point I figured **** it, I'll go for it, they say 2 hour wait but as it goes down maybe people will leave and it'll balance out. Was kinda working but as 2 hours neared I was still a bit away, and after it went down the FIRST loaded train after its last test cycle I bailed. Ride looks sick. The hangtime looks epic and just such a unique and interesting layout. The one person I bumped into who rode (dont think many did today) said has good air and the back end is very interesting. Maybe in a few weeks it'll be running smoother.

That said there was redemption for Jersey Devil. I lucked out and was the first person to catch it upon reopening (was down for I think 2 hours) so got 3 in a row. Front row, near back, and back row. Front was fun but a tad lackluster, as I felt last time, but near the back holy hell that was wild. Back row was insane! Also felt El Toro wasn't as rough as its been in recent years, maybe just memory lapse, and in back Nitro is still a damn solid ride given its age. OH! Also got stuck on the lift of Superman and goodness that was...uncomfortable XD  All in all OK day, looking forward to future visits.

Flash is good! Rode twice today, once in front and once in back. Floater on the launch side of the tower is nice. The hangtime on the stall is excellent and the restraints are extremely comfortable and perfect for this ride (after experiencing some squishing in the nether-regions on Copperhead Strike yesterday, this was a welcome relief). Nice air on the double up, borderline ejector in front. Barrel roll is a nice tribute to Chiller.

Still trying to understand how they're applying Flash Pass to this ride. When I first arrived (I have all season Platinum FP) it said I could not reserve Flash. I went and rode El Toro and then headed back over, and by then I could reserve a ride so I did. After a couple hours I went to get another ride and once again it would not let me. This time I settled for the one time use FP for $11 (seriously...if you see how slow the regular line moves, it will be the best $11 you'll ever spend). Was on within 5 minutes through the FP line, but the regular line had to be well over an hour. It's a great ride but that line is going to get very ugly on all but the deadest of days.

Hit a few other favorites. Toro running the same as last year. Wheel seats will give you a headache. I'm excited to see how nice the retrack makes the ride. Hope it gets restored to its former glory. The first half of the ride is still bonkers, but the second half is pretty brutal at this point and makes it tough to reride.

Nitro and Batman both running fantastic even in the cold cloudy weather. Didn't get over to Devil but I could see it crawling through the course. Didn't get on anything else, was in the middle of a 14 hour ride home from Carowinds so really just wanted to hit Flash and anything else was a bonus today.

Lots of food stands still closed. Even with the dining plan in hand I still just settled for Wawa. Also, I don't believe Superman opened at all today. Harley Quinn has not run since it's derailment last fall. I think everything else I noticed looked operational.

I like your TR's. They're less about you and more about the parks. It's a good balance of personal experience and opinion, combined with park information. That, and your TR's are brief.

Just figured I'd add that...

I enjoy the long, well written TRs loaded with pics that many used to post and a select few still post. But I don't have the time and patience to do all that myself lol.

I do take pics sometimes!

Ditto for me! My concise trip reports are much more about laziness on my part than aversion to a more detailed report, lol.
