2. El toro had a breakdown at the end of the day about 9pm. Its was going to be our last one before zumanjaro. So we were about to be the next train out of the station when out of no where the operator gets a look on her face and alls I heard was "the issue is not In the station" to the workers and they throw on the orange vests and she picks up the white phone. We waited for about 10 minutes and the park engineers came out and we knew this couldnt be good! Then we peaked at saw the train sitting on the hill. Everyone looked to be calm but then this BIG woman comes running up the stairs saying......get my kids off the roller coaster! Anyway we were already locked in for zumanjaro so we just got out of line to go over there! Sadly no el toro this time around. But by the end of the night they were testing witha few people in the station waiting holding on for hope to ride it but just ended up closed rest of the night!

- I've experienced that twice this season (once on the bottom of the lift, then at the top).....your guess is as good as mine as to what is causing this to happen

 

Probably from a silly computer error. A lot of times, block discrepancies occur for no reason. Suddenly, you'll go from having two trains on the track to the computer thinking there are three trains or more depending on the ride. I was working Bizarro one time when that happened and next thing you knew, all 5 blocks on the ride were occupied. (We were running three trains) When that happens, you get no movement until it's cleared in the computer.

Using this calculation from this website http://www.ringbell.co.uk/info/hdist.htm, You can see 25 miles from 415 feet in the air. The distance from jackson, nj to philadelphia, pa is 46 miles. You most likely are seeing trenton nj from the top of the tour, which is close to 25 miles away. Plus trenton is almost directly in the direction you would be facing.

^ No it's definitely Philly. Trenton is to the right of Zumanjaro. Where the tower is facing, Philly is almost straight ahead. Those calculations must be wrong

Zumajaro was going to be my next stop, but shocker- wasn't running in the am!

 

That's actually a good thing though since you went to Kingda Ka first. I'm sure it allowed for much faster operations.

Just either let that row go empty if your next or let someone else go ahead of you so that you don't go on it

So here I am on the west coast, all excited about my first trip to the park on Wednesday — and I read there's a 100% chance of rain/thunderstorms for Wednesday, not letting up until maybe later in the evening. My. Luck.

 

We have hotel and rental car reservations in Jackson for Tue-Wed, and hotel reservations in NYC (but no rental car) for Thursday through the weekend. I'd hate to let go/eat the reservations and spend extra money on picking another park day, especially if the rain isn't as bad as they say it will be. But I'd also feel like I was wasting money if there's nothing to ride, or the park closes early, should we chance it on Wednesday. And I rarely get over to the east coast.

 

Any NJ folk or park regulars have any advice on whether I should go on Wed or not? A separate rain/SFGAdv forum and other Internet anecdotes say all sorts of different things, but they all pretty much say that thunderstorms usually mean the coasters close and KK closes during any rain (or is too painful in even drizzle). Thanks!

^If you can wait till tomorrow to make your decision I would. Weather is so unpredictable and right now it looks like a big front coming that may come through as early as Tuesday night/Wednesday early morning, and then you might be fine. Or if it stalls or delays you'll be screwed. Like others have said, the stuff won't run in Lightning and some stuff will close in light/normal rain.

I tried "timing" the line last Friday (based on how many were ahead of me/# of cars on the track)- but couldn't take into consideration the folks that used "Fast Past"

I find accuweather.com to be a good source....and it is showing Wednesday as "passing showers"....Tuesday (tomorrow) looks like a complete wash out

I just wanted to mention again what a good time we had at SFGAd last week. So much so, that KT was randomly telling her Kindergarten teacher all about it today as we helped her set up her classroom. Said it was the best Six Flags park, and that it has her favorite ride ever, Zumanjaro!

I am not 100% sure on this, but there is a rumor that some red colored supports have been found near kingda ka. Can anyone confirm this?

GAdv is definitely one of the nicest parks I've visited. The scenery was great, and I was especially impressed by the hospitality of all the park staff. It was a great way to end off that leg of the trip.

I'd probably even go back just for the Safari (and El Toro, of course )

What's her favorite coaster? At 48", I'm guessing it is Millennium Force, Goliath SFGAm, or El Toro.

^Actually, even after riding quite a few 48" rides this summer, her favorite coaster remains Phoenix. Not that I can really fault that! Plus being 45lbs and tiny means she gets airtime out the wazoo on every hill thanks to those Buzz Bars! She did say El Toro comes in at number three.

I really wish that more old woodies had buzz bars. Why not? Phoenix is safe. Despite running in the most "unsafe" way imaginable, it is still an essentially perfectly safe ride. I get angry when I see CP's Blue Streak...

I'm going off topic here, but I want your insights on this picture I found on the forums of a different theme park site.

 

I've been hearing rumors the park removed Rolling Thunder to free up some space for a park expansion. With the drive thru safari entrance closed and the baboons being relocated into the park, it frees up plenty of room behind Kingda Ka. Here's my take on what the park could do with this.

- New Safari themed area at the base of Zumanjaro. It'll include 1-2 major new roller coasters (probably a RMC), new set of kiddie rides, concessions, games, animal exhibits, etc. A new Safari station would also be located here. A new midway would be constructed from the entrance of Kingda Ka to this new area.

- A secondary path would also be built to connect the new themed area with El Toro and Bizarro. The floorless coaster is located at the back corner of the park. Connecting Zumanjaro with Bizarro will bring the crowds back to the floorless coaster and help with the crowd flow.

I'm going off topic here, but I want your insights on this picture I found on the forums of a different theme park site.

 

SFGAdv has plenty of areas already existing within the park (Old Country, for example) that need to be rehabbed before they even think about expanding any further. Besides, the park is already so expensive as it is. I think that any rumors about future part expansion like this evolve strictly out of wishful thinking.

^I haven't been to the park with zumanjaro opened so I don't quite know "how much" you can see behind kk. Is this something you would be able to see from there?

If all goes according to plan, this Friday will make my 7th trip to the park this year. Every time I have gone this year I've hawked http://www.wunderground.com/ the week leading up to it and every single time the forecast on there was 99.9% correct. (search for Jackson, NJ, scroll down and it gives you an hourly breakdown of each day of the week). As of right now Wednesday looks like mostly thunderstorms during daytime, with clearing in the evening, and as stated here and elsewhere SFGAdv will run everything in rain (save for KA) unless its thunderstorms. :/

 

Lucky for me Friday looks perfect (!!), so I see a flash pass in my near future.
