Ashland is where I stay when I go to meetings/training at Corporate HQ. The town never manages to disappoint.

I'm torn between the better reviewed hotels in Ashland and being able to walk to the park from Best Western.

I love that Best Western. I also love the attached Denny's that's open 24 hours. Denny's sucks but when you get back from the park after midnight it's awesome to have it in your hotel. The hotel itself is average but it's clean and that's all that really matters. You can't beat the location.

Another thing of note is that Denny's is the only sit-down restaurant in a 3-4 mile radius of KD. I found that our when I lost my keys at KD this summer and had to walk to the nearest place to grab some dinner...

I remember back when I visited Kings Dominion we just walked to the Denny's and back and probably saved time opposed to driving to a different restaurant. I don't know if we originally planned on doing that because every single thing we did was going with the flow. Sources tell me that one year they passed Kentucky Kingdom and after remembering it exists said 'hey let's go there' and went there.

Got to spend a couple hours at Kings Dominion last night after picking up the car. I was surprised how dark the whole park was. It made navigating between rides a bit more difficult than I'm used to. Also, why would they make you enter Grizzly from the Dino entrance building. I didn't like that.

 

Oh, and I-305 is quite good.

I think both KD and KI are the hardest parks to navigate without a map. The pathways just plain do not make sense

Found at the entrance to Corkscrew at Valleyfair. Yes, this is the entrance, with the arrows pointing to the exit 5 feet away.

^ Yes, totally agree. That sign tripped me up. I had already identified the entrance because I saw the switchbacks going up the hill, but then I saw the sign and second guessed myself. After a minute I saw people coming toward me on the exit path and figured it out, but I did look like an idiot there before that happened.

I totally agree, but nothing compares to the Grizzly entrance at KD. I mean... how is this the entrance? The MotoCoaster entrance at Darien Lake is the only thing I've ever seen that's even close to this stupid but at least there it's apparently obvious that the coaster exists. I would think most people who go to KD without a map for the first time don't even know that Grizzly is a thing.

Disney/Universal: Exit through the gift shop

Kings Dominion: Enter through the gift shop that has no relation at all to the theme of the attraction and has no business being the entrance to any sort of ride at all.

it was never super obvious, but it used to at least make sense.

I am sorry to hear that. Before they had Intimidator, Grizzly was my favorite ride there.

^Grizzly blew me away, it was way more forceful than I expected! There's a few great airtime hills, ridiculous laterals, and an awesome location. For me it's the best coaster there outside of I305 by far.

It also explains why the Grizzly station always looks like any coaster's station at Dorney Park. If you have more than eight people on a train, the park must be SLAMMED that day.

It's 4th in the park for me, behind I305, Volcano, and Dominator. Still a fantastic ride, and really shows how great KD's lineup is.
