KI Kidd
CP and KI alone can make a fortune off of QBots. The system will pay for itself in 2 maybe 3 seasons I would imagine. CP I agree 100% but the only rides that this would be useful on at KI are Firehawk and Flight of Fear. Everything else either eats people pretty well (Beast, Diamondback, Vortex) or never has a line (Flight Deck, Racer). I'm pretending Invertigo doesn't exist, same as I do when I visit the park, lol. Very excited to see what Matt can do for CF. A very inspired and (IMO) wise choice.

Jew
^ It never made much sense to have the corporate headquarters in Sandusky other than cost, that it's always been there and the fact that it's the "Flagship" park. But Knott's is open all year and really corporate should be in Orange County. Sandusky is a much better location for their headquarters than Orange County. Why would the company would to be based in an area that on the other side of the country from the majority of their properties? Sandusky is at least more centrally located for them, and I am sure they get some financial incentive to be based there as well.
DJeXeL
Animatronic trash cans.... Disney tried that already..... In all seriousness Matt will probably cut the trash can budget in half. ^Not to mention taxes and what not are lower in other states thus why a lot of businesses are leaving California. I see CF's bland park operation being shaken up a bit. Looking forward to it. Edited June 21, 2011 by DJeXeL
Bolliger&Mabillard
Personally I wouldn't care about structural theming as much as I would if Ouimet could get the Disney style of operations to stick at all parks. You see and hear about it all the time about Six Flags employees employees on phones (I can recall a PTR someone did on this site of the traffic guard in the MM parking lot with a stop sign in one hand and a phone in the other). It happens quite often at Knott's as well. And in the six years I've frequented* Disney as an enthusiast, I've never seen an employee on their phone while on the job, and if so it happens so infrequently I can't remember. Whatever Matt brought to the table to get Disney employees to have that type of self control, spread to Cedar Fair. If Cedar Fair can somehow improve on it efficiency and operations/customer service, they'd legitimately kill all comparisons they get to Six Flags. Vffreak07
Well according to management in our morning meetings, Matt is coming to Valleyfair to check out the park tomorrow. It's my day off so I'm thinking about going out to the park with my camera and shadow him just just for the fun of it. Not creepy at all.

My opinion comparing Cedar Fair parks to 6 Flags parks is very different. Cedar Fair parks always had the best ride-ops that really enjoyed their jobs. The 6 Flags park employees hated there jobs and showed it everyday. About 3 or 4 years ago, a total reversal happened. Things turned bad at most Cedar Fair parks and after bankruptcy, dramatic (positive) changes appeared at 6 Flags parks around the country that I've visited. As of this moment, I can say from my experience, 6 Flags is functioning better than Cedar Fair. If nothing else the stock prices tell the story. Maybe now that "Big Dick" is gone, Matt will make a difference. We can hope...
coasternut
Here is a link to an article posted on the local paper -- Sandusky Register. Looks like Matt is moving from the O.C. to "climate challenged" Sandusky. This is from their Facebook page. He said as you'll see he wants Cedar Point to remain their crown jewel??? He's got a lot of work to do... https://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fpointbuzz.com%2FNewsStory.aspx%3Fid%3D1684&h=407ff
BigDipper 80
From the Sandusky Register: Sandusky Cedar Fair's new president and soon-to-be CEO said Cedar Point remains the "crown jewel" of the parent company's 11 amusement parks. And he plans to keep it that way. In his third week as president, Matt Ouimet, 53, met with reporters Thursday after an annual meeting of the company's investors. Keeping Cedar Point in good shape will be one of his priorities, Ouimet said. "This park needs to stay as vibrant as any park we have in the system," he said. "If you live too much off your legacy, you never get to the future." Ouimet didn't drop any hints about what Cedar Point's new attraction in 2012 will be. Cedar Fair's current CEO -- Dick Kinzel, 70, who retires in January -- gave Ouimet a warm endorsement Thursday. "I am certain he is the right person for the job," Kinzel said. There is also a video interview of Ouimet on the Sundusky Register website: LINK

chadster
I suppose I could have started a new thread for this, however, your Cedar Fair Plat Pass is gonna cost you for 2012. How much? $179 Some parks are having a sale Labor Day Weekend, for example, Worlds of Fun is $149. On the other parks I've checked on, KI, KD, Carowinds, I'm not seeing any sale announcements, yet. My rough math says it's a $40 increase over 2009. Just makes me wonder now what Six Flags is going up to.

chadster
^ lol. I was thinking they might be trying to be like Disney. Regardless, I'll still pony up. I haven't used my 2011 pass as much as I've wanted to, but still have gotten my money's worth out of it. Next year, I'll complete my Cedar Fair park credits with VF, CW, and MA. Will they do what 6 Flags did this year with the parking (only valid at the home park on the pass)?

I even suggested to the GM at SFNE during our Bizarro Bash to offer season pass parking upgrade for all parks each year. Not sure if that fell on deaf ears. I went to Universal/IOA back in 09 and paid $99.99 for a 7-day pass...I'm going again in less than a month and am paying $144.99 for a 3-day pass. That's life. dippindotsguy8
Lifetime passes would be a bad idea because the parks would lose a ton of money. Plus, given the legal climate here, I can only image the stuff people would try. For example: "Im older, therefore I have less life ahead of me, so I shouldn't have to pay as much as young people". Besides, how would you price a lifetime pass? If it's priced high enough to not cost the park tons of money, people won't buy it. If it's low enough for people to buy it, the park gets ripped off.
