Glad the trip is off to a flying start. Beverly = brackish and vile from what I remember years ago in high school. Saw Ice Bat's cousin @ Davis Kidd bookstore in Memphis this weekend and thought of you all.

Hope to catch you at Vision Land when you stop by.

Ahh, and bless you Robb for the Vault picture.

Best to all!

Mmmm.... I! LIKE! WAFFLE HOUSE!

All that Coke looked pretty good, but - where was the Faxi Kondi? (Haven't seen any since Denmark...) Oh yeah, and I think Coke owes y'all a hefty paycheck for all the product placement!

^^ Did the spoons come with warning labels for what they are NOT to be used for, for example:

--keep away from eyes to avoid gouging

--do not attempt open heart surgery with this spoon.

--do not place too far into the throat to avoid gagging

--not to be used as a sex toy

--To avoid brain freeze, if eating ice cream with the mulit-purpose spoon, eat the ice cream slowly.

or even

--This multi purpose spoon is intended for the consumption of food ONLY, the user of said spoon hereby holds the manufacturer, distributor and location where the spoons were obtained completely harmless from damages, injuries, etc, occurring when the spoon is used for any other activity, use or function, other than food consumption.

If not, I could see some serious lawsuits. I work at a law firm, so if such an injury occurs AND there are no such warning labels, you MAY have a case.

Oh yeah, Waffle house does rock. Order over light, hashbrowns all the way, bacon.... Mmmmmmmm, Luckily I have one 1 mile from my house.

They have Fanta Birch Beer at the Williamsburg Five Guys--good stuff! Sounds like the Deep South Tour is off to a great start.

This is the world's biggest fish. It's called a "Whale Shark." Because the gene splicing fish scientists couldn't agree on what it is, so they called it a Whale Shark. Next they will make a Cat Pig!

As for the "Cat Pig . . . "

It seems like just yesterday that you guys set me up to taste that Beverly stuff

Good times!

Peace, Big Mike

PS - Thanks for the shout out as always!

Nothing like some Double Covered and Smothered before hitting the Deep South! Quality stuff so far, reminds me of the mothered land! If you can, hit the Varsity downtown! So greasy, yet so quality!

Also if Erik is on this trip... One suggestion, that UF stuff he wears will get him hurt in just about every state you guys are going to!

Agreed, The Varsity is one of the best things in Atlanta and definitely the best greasy spoon restaurant. Also, I loves me some apple Fanta, and I would trade my first-born child (assuming I had one) for a plate of covered, chunked hash browns and a warm pecan waffle.

I'm going to enjoy these updates (not that I don't enjoy them all...). The Deep South Trip was the one I was planning to do if I couldn't convince my bosses to give me two weeks off for the West Coast Trip--and even then I played with my budget to see if I could squeeze in both (fail). Keep 'em coming, Robb!

As for Beverly, I think it's supposed to be a non-alcoholic aperitif (or maybe a mixer). You wouldn't really sip a bottle of it the way you drink a Coke; you'd have a little taste or two before dinner to stimulate your appetite (probably because after a couple sips you'd *really* want food to take that taste out of your mouth!).

Do we have any members on here from Italy who can clarify?

Varsity is pretty close to the Marta station. I am sure you started with the parks but you should make some time for it if you can.

As someone who has lived an hour or two from Atlanta for the last two years, I can definitely confirm how good the Aquarium & Varsity are.. even World of Coke is fun, though a bit expensive for what it is. I really only like the intro movie and the drinking room anymore. I'll be up there next weekend when my step-son and his friend are in from Oregon. Taking them around the sites, SF water park and more.

I always thought that Beverly smelled (and probably tasted) like Hai Karate or Aqua Velva.

And yes, I've heard nothing but bad about Beverly - what's it supposed to taste like?

It's an italian beverage that's used as a pallet cleanser. Kinda like what ginger is for sushi. And it's BITTER. Hilarious to watch unsuspecting people try it out thinking it's like liquid candy like all the other ones...

There aren't enough dumbasses in Georgia for Pepsi to make any money

The first restaurant I ate in Atlanta a few years ago only served pepsi, which was a weird circumstance to say the least...

Well, since everyone's talking about it, I think it's time to pull out my official guide to drinking Beverly.

Step 3: Let the bitter and cruel realization hit you. Congratulations; you've just experienced liquid failure in a cup.

IMG_0914.jpg.cd78a5548ae8185adb15d97c3375dca3.jpg

Step 2: Take a moment to swish the beverage around in your mouth, much like a wine tasting. This will give you time to falsely conclude that said beverage isn't all that bad.

Step 1: Neatly prepare will, then stare directly into the camera with absolute fear before sampling.

The Georgia Aquarium really is amazing. I have a short video of the big 'uns on my MySpace page, if anyone is interested: Georgia Aquarium

Have fun deep in the south, guys. Maybe I'll annoy y'all at Dollywood on Monday.

There's actually a lot, not the "50:50" ratio you might get elsewhere, but I run into it all the time at lunch. You ask for a coke, because in Georgia, everything that isn't sweet tea (eww) is Coke. Then the waiter/waitress asks (thank $deity) if Pepsi is ok. And when you say no, unlike in other states, they don't look at you funny, they just understand.

Luckily.... most places carry dr pepper/diet dr pepper despite which main cola brand their distributor carries.

I'm surprised Rob didn't go all out and buy the swim with the whale sharks package. That looks like a blast.... a scary scary blast.

Gosh, I wish I was on this or any other TPR trip! My summer coaster extravaganza was pretty dang awesome, but I still can't wait until next summer. Yep, I've already created the budget for a trip with ya'll in 2010. Be careful when you get to Texas; it is damn hot!

Kinky (or even Kinley) in England! Oh, yeah!

I've lived here in good old England for erm, one or two years... OK damn it my whole life and I've NEVER heard or seen or tasted this "Kinley" stuff !!

So whats the point in associating it with England ?

Posted

Great stuff. I absolutely LOVE Atlanta and World of Coke.

As for the Beverly, the ONLY person I've ever met that actually likes it is my MIL. She tried it at EPCOT and actually liked it. She's weird like that.

Same here.

What the hell's Kinley?

Sounds like a good start to the trip.

Not long to go now 'til the West Coast trip starts!

All these people are trying it (Beverly) and not liking it.

I think Plex has lied to us.

Glad the trip is off to a good start. Have an awesome time everyone
