robbalvey
Liseberg - What can we say? The park treated us well in 2006 and they treated us equally as awesome this year! I do have to say one thing though - BALDER = OMFG!!! I had been hearing from several people that Balder isn't what it used to be, that they had changed the wheels and it had lost something, etc... Well, I'm not exactly sure if our visit was different for any reason, but OMFG, Balder was running *BETTER* than I remembered, in fact it was running so good that it easily...EASILY knocked T-Express off my #1 wood spot and put Balder right back there! Yes, it's true - Theme Park Review officially says "Balder is the #1 wood coaster in the world!" Ok, onto some photos - Until next time... Theme Park Review wants to send a big THANK YOU to everyone at Liseberg who helped make our visit AWESOME! All the coasters kicked some serious ass today! OMG! We can't have this update be Schwarzkopf-Free! HAHA! No roll back for you! It's no longer the steepest in the world, but it's still the BEST! KidTums continues to paint on Balder. The "Brit Group" mark their Balder territory! "How exactly am I supposed to hammer this in without a donut?" I like Balder...I. Like. Balder! Balder was giving #1 rides in the morning, and it got BETTER in the evening! (and yes, that is as dark as it got while we were there!) It's no wonder why Liseberg makes so much money on the games!!! "Haha! I got mommy to go on the spinning raft ride!" Which would you rather have lick you? The frog or Elissa? To answer the question...EMAIL DAN!!! mrt0ad13@aol.com Balder = #1 awesomeness. Like this.... Liseberg's new "Uppswinget" does some really strange things to you... OMG Craig! When you said you had to "piss like a firehose" you weren't kidding! MEEEAATTT! MUST. EAT. MEEEAAAATTTT!!!!! Emril, eat your heart out! Lunch at the new Café Taube was OMG amazing! Have we mentioned that Balder is the best wooden coaster in the world? Just wanted to make sure we got that across to everyone. Ahh! It's the image of the "Naked, pregnant, Pope" that is now burned into their brains! Why do Craig and Hanno look so confused? Liseberg's games and their prizes are the best of any parks! While there was no "meat slicer" this year we tried to win the "pressure washer" and the "vaccum cleaner!" Somehow we did an amazing job of not really winning much of anything! She gave me a duck. I'm a happy man! "I'm CRAAAAZY rubber Lizard! Give me some popcorn!" New kiddie coaster credit! Yay!!! The one and only picture from inside the maze. Seriously, this is one REALLY well-done haunted attraction! Easily on par with what you'd see at Universal's Halloween Horror Nights! We got to go behind the scenes. Check out all the control rooms. Were shown some of the tricks on how the ghosts scare the hotel guests (we aren't giving away any spoilers!) and it was a really awesome tour! Next up was a backstage tour of "Hotell Gasten" the park's walk-through haunted house. Yay! Two awesome Intamin coasters in a row! Right next door to Balder is one of the most intense Intamin rocket coasters "for it's size." While it's so cute you want to pet it, it really packs a mean punch! And let's not forget about Kanonen! Seriously, Balder was just simply AMAZING the entire day. Evening ERT on the planet's #1 wood coaster!!! This is how amazing Balder is. When she got on the ride, she was only an A-cup! You guys ready for the #1 wood coaster in the world? We had 3 hours of ERT on Balder, Kanonen, and Lisebergbanen! Pretty much you could ride every single seat if you wanted to! And yes of course there was beer! TPR, complete with bunny ears says "THANK YOU LISEBERG!!!" Could this be the first ever "Nail Art" put on a wood coaster? And yes, once again we were asked hammer nails into Balder! (Anything to help keep the ride running great!) Even KidTums got to sign her name! In 2006 we made fun of Joey for not being there with us, and now we can send the same message to Dan! We were told to wear green bunny ears (part of the park's mascot) and write on Balder! We were welcomed by everyone who was anyone at Liseberg. Thank you again for having us! Yup, we are at Liseberg. The sign says so.

Moose
This was easily my favorite park of the trip. Balder, Hotel Gasten, Awesome Water Rides, Balder, Gasten, Beautiful Park, Balder, Gasten, Lisebanana, Balder, Gasten, Balder Um... there is a light anomaly in our Gasten Picture (on the right, next to Russ) perhaps the place really is haunted. My heart is still racing from three trips through Gasten and all the amazing rides on Balder.
Ryancrash
Yes, Balder was even better than El Toro!! Absolutely amazing - my new number one woodie. Liseberg was so awesome - Balder, Hotel Gasten, Lisebergbanan... and did anyone else try the Swedish meatballs with the mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce? It was DELICIOUS - much better than Ikea's. One of my favorite days of the trip.
KrautWithAltitude
This is yet another cool report! I´m bummed I can´t be with you, but the next time TPR comes to Germany, I will be, and it´s gonna be RAD! What would the world be without TPR? Just a bunch of coaster nerds... Next time we meet, we have to take a drink together! see you in coaster heaven! -kwa

anto04
Thanks for awesome updates! (..and lucky me that lives only 40 km (24,8 miles) from Balder, so I can ride it every year!) Besides... Anyone noticed if there were one or two active trains on Kanonen? I know Liseberg took one train temporary into disuse after some problems two weeks ago, when the train got stucked at the top of the first hill! Watch this clip from swedish television: http://svtplay.se/v/1587696/vastnytt/akattraktion_pa_liseberg_fastnade. After one hour, they pushed the train backwards towards the station. I'm glad this didn't happen to you. Again.. thanks for your awesome updates!

How would you like a food company trying to make your furniture? Next time you come to Germany, I shall give you the bbq of your life! (Sorry for all the OT but I just don´t care to PN....) The Bat
Great update! Yes, Liseberg was THAT amazing. Balder is my new number one! I've ridden El Toro and T Express and Balder is simply without equal. The haunted house at Liseberg is amazing. Yes, I did crumple in a corner on multiple occasions, thanks so much, fellow Panthers for pointing that out! Liseberg pulled out all the stops for us. It was a truly memorable day. -- Dave

Dan
In 2006 we made fun of Joey for not being there with us, and now we can send the same message to Dan! I hate you so much... Could this be the first ever "Nail Art" put on a wood coaster? That was really cool/creative whoever did that! She gave me a duck. I'm a happy man! Oh, how I miss Sweden... "Haha! I got mommy to go on the spinning raft ride!" I love that kid!! Not only is she the cutest thing on this side of the earth but she's always on our side when it comes to tormenting Mommy!! One thing was still missing from our previous trips... Jenny
jkwan
Ya, I rode Balder for the first time this summer and it was pure bliss! But sadly, I had 1 and a half hours at the park because my cruse ship left at 4 o'clock. Luckily I got all of my coaster credits within that time period but I was sad that I couldn't really experience the park.
macca_boy69
I feel like such an idiot. I saw the nail art, and i was like WTF is TAK! I then realised it said "TPR" I need help. Hahahah. Great update Robb. Have fun on the rest of your trip. Roberto
ginzo
but I was sad that I couldn't really experience the park. Honestly, you probably should be bummed out a bit about that because Liseberg really is that good. It's easily in my top 3 parks, along with EPCOT and Knoebels. No other park that I know of combines top end rides with some of the very best atmosphere/landscaping. Many parks are strong in one area or the other, but very few parks that I know of "have it all". PKI Jizzman
It looks like Balder: -Doesn't take up much space -Cost that much money -Has high capacity -Is freaking amazing -TPR's fav woodie WHY DON'T OTHER PARKS HAVE ONE?!
robbalvey
It looks like Balder:-Doesn't take up much space -Cost that much money -Has high capacity -Is freaking amazing -TPR's fav woodie WHY DON'T OTHER PARKS HAVE ONE?! The answer really is the cost. I'm told that an Intamin woodie (including all the infastructure) costs about $10 - $15 million. That's quite an expensive ride in today's economy. --Robb "But well worth it!" Alvey
Wood Dragon 1988
^But B&M floorless and inverted coasters cost that much don't they? There are plenty of those, and pretty much all of them are no match for an Intamin wooden.
PKI Jizzman
RCDB says: -Cost 100,000,000 SEK (about 9-10 million dollars). I'm not sure how credible that is, or what it covers. But it's usually a cheaper alternative for a park that's installing a big new ride.
jjeerr
6.5 million of 2007 money gets you a Renegade, 10 million of 2009 money gets you a Terminator. That is why they 10+ million dollars of Intamin wood isn't at every park. Though a Mega-Lite + Prefab Wood for a discount sounds like a pretty good idea to me... Nrthwnd
After riding Balder an absolutely amazing number of times back in 2006, I was really expecting for there to some (any) kind of 'lackluster-nous' to it on this tour... How happily wrong - wrong - WRONG I was! Can we go to Liseberg every and any Europe tour we ever do that brings us even barely close to this wonderful great park???? Plplplplplplease?????? The creation of an OBG {Outdoor Beer Garden} for us before riding it (and Kanonen bless it's sweet little top hat), was also another amazing time I will never ever forget, thanks to the park's wonderful staff and owners, and the Alveys.
