Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride

Like everyone else, at first I was a bit confused by a wooden coaster called Terminator but I've changed my mind. It's good to see them thinking outside the box.

El Toro proved to me that wooden coasters can have the same physical presence and riding experience as any Mega Hyper Kickass Giga Monster Buzzword Twister Coaster.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree! El Toro is not your average run of the mill woodie. I like that better than Nitro! I am not all up on who makes what - but those of you in doubt, let's just see what SFMM and Terminator have to offer once it opens. They may just shock you! Let's just hope that the theming does not fall to the wind, as I noticed in most Six Flags parks after some time...

I don't see Six Flags building a wooden coaster themed to Terminator as any more 'ridiculous' than Disney building a launched, looping steel coaster themed to a supposed seaside amusement park.

Or since it's disney, building an expedition Gforce clone and calling it "little miss sunshine-the ride"

Well, at least I made it in before page 30!

I think this addition is yet another move in the right direction for SFMM and an excellent one. The park's last three ride additions-Tatsu (even though it was under the old management), the X2 upgrade and now this were/are all really solid and intelligent decisions IMHO.

While the theme might seem a bit perplexing, something tells me that they will make it work (look how many were skeptical of X2 and how great they were able to pull that off) and while I was initially surprised that they put in this in Psyclone's old spot, it does make sense and will bring new life to that area of the park.

I know it's not a record breaker type ride, but I don't think that is what SFMM wanted or needed-they needed and they are getting a new coaster that I think will be satisfying to thrill seekers yet family friendly and accessible and marketable to both. Additions like this will help the park get the balance that it needs, and I have a feeling that the ride may actually surprise people once it opens and end up being more thrilling than expected.

It seems to me that GCI is to wooden coasters as B&M is to steel coasters; they may not be the longest/fastest/most extreme coasters or ones that push the limits, but they build reliable and comfortable crowd pleasing coasters. (I know that if I were building a park I would go mostly to GCI for wood and B&M for steel for those same reasons).

I look forward to riding this one when it opens. Anyone know when annual passes go on sale?

(I will add that I hope that they not only add this to the coaster wall of fame, but finally add an X2 mural as well! If they have already, I have not noticed it.)

I truly hope the back of the park gets some work done. I think it would be good for that part of the park to see some work, other then Deja Vu there really is no reason to go back there. With this new coaster the park could go a long way towards moving people to that part of the park.

By the way, great pictures Robb, I look forward to the updates on this ride.

I'm really glad to see another awesome GCI being put in a Six Flags park, but i still think the themeing is going to be really ridiculous. I mean, every time i think of the oxymoron that a wooden Terminator coaster is i just being to laugh.

I said it needed to be longer mostly and there is no need to try to convince me about anything. Maverick IS a major thrilling ride. And no my house isn't 100ft and you know I was speaking metaphorically. This is just a site to exchange ideas. No one should get mad because someone doesn't necessarily like what you do. I said FOR ME it doesn't look all that great.

Come on now, my feeling that shouldn't personally offend anyone. Forums are a place to exchange DIFFERENT ideas not to agree. I didnt see a big deal in Raven at all and I stick by saying it is nothing wrong with SFMM competing with CP. El Toro has gone over well with everyone on here, I haven't seen one person on here complain about it being too big. I went the first year it opened and there were just as many "families" with small kids as the roudy teenagers.. I don't believe I have personally insulted anyone or stepped out of line so please don't be upset with me because my opinion is favorable. It probably is but everyone else is afraid to say it.

Well, I can say for one I'm not offended at all. Its height is perfect, because it gives families another ride to go on TOGETHER besides Collossus, Ninja and Gold Rusher. And it only costs ten million. Its a win-win situation for SFMM. Something the park needed, not too expensive, another thrilling yet family friendly roller coaster (because Percy is a nice junior coaster, but let's face it, if you were a kid, would you prefer Percy or a roller coaster that looks cool?).

I also hoped it would be bigger and longer (as seen by my constant and probably annoying referance to an El Toro clone), but I'm satisfied with what SFMM chose. As for those roudy teenagers, they got X2, Goliath, Tatsu, Batman, Riddler's Revenge, Deja Vu, and Viper to choose from for extreme thrills.

And I dont think you offended anyone, we are all just trying to get you to see it from a different standpoint, business and family wise. We all have our own opinions though.

Just looking through the new update pictures, I can already get the "Terminator Feel." I don't know if It was MM's intent at all, but this somewhat resembles something from the movie...

I don't know if any of you remembered the famous chase scene in Terminator 2 when Arnold is riding his mean motorcycle down that concrete Overflow Canal...and thinking about that I noticed where the coaster is being built! Check out the picture. Thought it was kinda cool.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!

That roller coaster looks *FREAKIN* awesome!!!!

I can't wait to ride it next time I go to Magic Mountain!! It is going to be my first GCI!!! I've been past Roar at Marine World twice (but one time I was on my 4th grade Sacramento Trip, and the other time we were looking at colleges for my sister! We didn't have any time!)

It really would be nice to do something with those buildings. They're over 30 years old (original Spillikin Corners buildings built in 1976-77). Opening a new "hole" to access the ride would be a great idea, especially if the ride's station isn't where Psyclone's was---and it almost looks like it isn't from the video and drawing.

Hopefully they will demolish one or two of those old buildings, run a bridge across the canal leading to the coaster entrance, and put props in the canal themed to the movie like Ryan pointed out. That way, the coaster will be more accessible from the midway, and they can clean up that back area of the park. That way, those who remember Psyclone will not associate this with it if they enter from a completely different area. Maybe convert one of the buildings into a Terminator gift shop too.

And here is my interpretation of just that, a design where the old restrooms are removed, and a bridge crossing the canal, so guests can easily get to the pathway that leads to the queue line, which will be on the far right side, leading to the center of the coaster where the station is, otherwise you'll be starting over by Deja Vu. A large opening such as this, will draw guests to the ride, and it won't be tucked in a corner by Deja Vu. They need a different look other than what they had for Pysclone. Come On Six Flags, this design is what you should use.

What does everybody think of this?

This is my Interpretation of the design they should use for the main entrance to Terminator.
